I agree...sorta

Santa v Franklin
Waite v resting ruck
T-Bird v Roughhead

Simmo v Hodge ( a calculated risk...I am hoping Simmo can P.O Hodge)
Kouta rotating with Scotland on Mitchell

Leave the rest to Gibbs, Murph and AWWWWW STEVENS

I would alo prefer to loose and play Grigg, Anderson and Austin than win and not give the pups a run.

I reckon the best match-ups for the Blues would be:

O'hAilpin v Franklin
Waite v Roughead
Thornton v Williams
Walker v Boyle (you'd seriously be looking to exploit that one)

I'm just glad that we're not looking at match-ups down the other end of the ground. That's where you guys have it all over us, especially with Brown, Osborne, Jacobs, Smith and Croad all not playing. Gilham will start on Fevola, that's the only one I'm willing to predict at this stage.

Thornton doesn't have the legspeed to match up on Williams and we might have to go with Walker or Russell.

Could Anderson get a game?

Awesome!!! Those of us in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra, make sure you're watching Channel 10 @ 6:30 Saturday night The Phantom is on... I love Billy Zane.

He is their quarterback. We have plenty of athletic types who could nullify Buddy in our defence and let's not forget what Walker did to Croad last year. So who do we match up on Hodge to stop his damaging disposal.? Not only is he a great long penetrating kick (best in the business out of defence ahead of Gilbee and Goddard) he also possesses great vision in spotting unmarked midfielders. We need to stop his supply from their defensive zone. Hawthorn defenders always look for him at every opportunity. Would like to see Rusell be given the chance to run with him and stop him from getting his customary easy possession. Has the pace and is not bad in the air otherwise it may have to be Walker or een Gibbs. Gibbs could end up hurting Hodge should he play loose because unlike the others he certainly knows show to kick a goal or two. Stop Hodge and we proceed to the third round as simple as that. I rate our midfield slightly ahead of Hawthorns, so I can't see too much pressure being exerted on our backline. I rate Essendon*'s tall man department a lot stronger than Hawthorns and we successfully cut them out of the game. Our reliance on Fev is still a major problem for us but overall I believe we match up well against Hawthor just like Essendon*.

Carrots would be my 1st pick tp play on Hodge. It would be a good lesson for JR or Gibbs early on too.

The height variance diqualifies him in my opinion. If I were Hodge I would be leading up the forward line for some easy marking contests. Hodge is pretty good over his headand Carrots isn't.

Maybe not but I'm sure he can punch - Carrots is listed as 3 cms taller.

Walker should go straight to franklin. mouth watering match up.

Bower to Williams to eat him up.

Carlos to Roughead.

We dont really have a tagger to run with hodge so play someone on him who is going to make him have to be accountable. Thats where his game lacks. Run murph with him.

Play tall in the forward line, Fev, Kennedy, Fisher, Lance, Cloke, and betts as the crumber. push the flanks from the backline down and get Houlihan and lappin to really apply that offensive pressure they do so well.

Combine that with stevens, simmo, and scotland rebounding and running the ball and i think we are a fair dinkum shot.

No "Brown & Yellow" Spider to hurt us this year. He's always caused us some pain since he went to the Dwarks.

We're not without a show against this mob. I really think that it's all about the midfileld!! ...... and, we are definately getting better in that area!!

It will be interesting to see who gets a run this week. Luke Blackwell can't be far off getting on the park, along with Flint, Bower & Hartlett. Adam Bentick will definately play if fit enough.

I would like to see Jackson get another run ..... IMO he really looks a made AFL footballer.

Go Blues!!

Everitt didn't play the last time we played you either, and Robert Campbell (with 18 hit-outs, 17 disposals and a goal) was clearly the dominant ruckman on the ground.

It will be won in the middle though. I don't think either side's defence is strong enough to contain the other's forward line, so it will come down to which forward line gets the better supply.

Should be a good game. I think the Hawks are in it to win the NAB Cup this year so it will be a good comparison for us to see where we are at.

Worried about their runners though. We may be stretched if they click like they did at times tonight.

Can't wait to see Waitey on Franklin!!

I hope you ran the title of this thread past the boys over at CSC first, after all 'X vs X - Pre Match Discussion' is their idea and copyright. We all remember the fuss made about it last year. :P

Very good point Jars.

Yes I advocate deleting "Pre" and inserting a "Before".

Or perhaps deleting "Pre" and inserting a "Prior".

Even deleting "Pre" and inserting a "Garden Gnome". :P

Wonderful! After watching The Mummy last week in the same timeslot, I'm really getting a feel for mid-90's blockbusters.

look, this weeks game all depends on how we start. if we start like we did against the bombers and maintain the same intensity for FOUR quarters this time, not 2 and a half, then we will be a real show.

BUT....

If Hawthorn beat us out of the blocks i think we are gone, we dont have the experience yet to keep our heads up when chasing scores. We have to rely on a good start, lots of confidence and being tough and hard at the ball.

I'd love to see Edawards get some gametime.

Ditto Bower.
Ditto Flint.
Ditto Hartlett, Anderson, & Grigg.

But sometimes it's best to let them get a full game in at reserve level.

My beef is when they do that consistantly for 21 games of the year and then get promoted in the last round AWAY game which is effectivly a dead rubber anyway (Jackson, Rnd 22 Sydney).

I'm all for playing our youth. But look at Bower last week. Played a full game down back which is EXACTLY where we want him to grow into, and did it well. That game time would have worked wonders.

I'd say he'd get promoted this week (i actually thought he got injured but he seems ok).

Stop stressing about Franklin. Had him my Herald sun supercoach team laster and he was allright, but he plays one good game then doesnt do anything for another 3 games.

All Blues need to do is stop the Hawks Midfield and the game is over.

Walker to tag hodgy
bentick to tag mitchell
unlease the Gibbs and Murphy

Blues will win if they stop Hawk midfield and deliver the ball properly in the forward line.

Bombers forward line is a lot better then Hawks will be from last week so i'm not worried about their forward line only the midfield.
