The current 25 years of Sheedy stuff reminds me of a PP moment.

Queens Birthday Monday, 1997 - we played Bris (I think). The other match that day was at the MCG, and the away team was Freo. Essendon* had already played that weekend, and Sheedy was PP to see our match. Though he did so as a Special Comment man on one of the radio broadcasters.

That night on Talking Football it was mentioned that Essendon*'s next opponent is Freo. Without being critical (it was just a chatty conversation) Bruce McA, Mick S. and Leigh Matthews found Sheedy's decision on which game to attend as strange.

Sheedy's response (in Inside Footbal, I think) was over the top. He had a go at all three, trotted out his winning percentage and the no of premierships he's coached (pointing out that Matthews' record doesn't compare), etc, etc, etc. Sheedy said he knew what he is doing, and who are they to criticise, etc.

The following week Sheedy proved he knew what he was doing, as Freo beat the bummers by a cool 97 points. I'm guess Sheedy not being at the MCG that Queens Birthday Monday is what denied Freo a 100+ point win.

Just looked it up. The Browlow votes that day were Fotia - 3 votes, Herman -2, Mallakellis - 1. The umpires were Garland and Rich.

SOS finished up the season with 16 votes, two behind the winner.

The Sun's votes for the game were SOS - 3, Sticks - 2, Mallakellis - 1.

One of my favourite PP moments would have to be being there with my North-loving best friend, having just beaten them in 2000 by about 6 goals (I think Carey only got 1 or 2, and even Mick Martyn got one).
We were heading onto the sacred ground for a bit of kick-to-kick when my mate almost tripped over a stunningly gorgeous Carlton supporting girl (are there any other kind??), and rather than heap venom and vitriol at the loser in the Royal Blue and White, she was nice and happy and all smiles (as winners tend to be). Her beauty and charms almost converted him to the Navy Blue on the spot.

Unbelievable. Another Brownlow this club has been robbed of.

I can still remember Commetti - "Koutoufides again...begs the question why would you kick it anywhere near him".

So many fond memories that have already been mentioned.
Others include Harmsey leaping onto Peter Moore's shoulders to pull down a speeky.
Robbie Muir turning around and dropping Dennis Collins like a sack of shit, right in front of us.
Wow Jones lining up from 10m out, directly in front to win the game. He missed.
As little peckers we use to get the cardboard boxes and slide down the dirt hills behind the standing room areas, between quarters.
Collecting the old style beer cans, balancing and standing on them for a quarter, too scared to move so as not to fall. It was a hassel finding a rolling can amongst all those giants.
Most of all watching my heroes run around gracing Princess Park, Jezza, Doull, so many others.
I hope a few more memories come back when Mrs. Pedro and I are stumped up in our seats watching the game live on the 21st.
Regards Pedro.
mental note: don't get too pissed too early.

Another great moment was Sticks in 1992 against St Kilda at the Lygon St end

The ball was kicked to him on the left HFF where he gathered the pill and handpassed over Russell Morris, who he left flat-footed, gathered his own handpass and placed right up against the boundary line he slotted a banana goal from about 30 metres out. Just an absolute breathtaking goal. One of my faves.

Great game as well. St Kilda were red hot that year and the game itself was fantastic. It included the incident involving Plugger and Hogg when he clobbered him after the siren and Dorovich came in and started wrestling the big man.

It was also the same game when the "Rhino" kicked 4 goals in the 3rd when it looked like the Saints were going to run away with the game.

Great memories!!! :P

Got speaking to a Carl supporter after the Wiz Cup win who still has it on tape. I wrote down the TC web address & gave it to him to encourage him to join, just so I could PM him & borrow it!! (Adam if you are reading this…)

Anyway he mentioned to me that DOMINIC FOTIA got the 3 Brownlow votes that day, even though Silvagni was the hero. How many votes did SOS miss out on winning Charlie by in 1990?? I remember a desperate smother he committted in front of the Gardiner in the 3rd qtr that got the crowd to its feet…to date I don't think I've since seen a single act of desperation fire up a team so much.

Also, Kernanhan's 5 goals in the 3rd qtr from FF helped the cause!!

Remember the game very well CK, and I'm pretty sure I have the replay on tape at my parent's place (hoping to get them all onto DVD soon). From memory the commentary is a bit faded, which is a pity as there are some classics from Robbo there - in the third quarter, after SOS was shifted to CHF, he kicked one from 45, and Robbo's special comments were "Silvagni... Woooo Hoooo!".

Classic game, and I remember saying at school the day after the Brownlow that Silvagni missing the votes in that game cost him the medal... he may have actually been reported in the 1st quarter though.

The four moments that stand out for me considering I'm only 16.

> Kouta's demolition of West Coast.
Remember sitting in the social club as an eight year old with the crowd yelling 'Kouta, Kouta, Kouta' in the background, one of my earliest footballing memories.

>Carlton thrashing the Bulldogs.
Probably the best game of football I have attended. Kicking all those goals to the Robert Heatley Stand in the second quarter was simply magic.

>The Last Suburban Battle.
Killing the Pies comprehensively infront of a packed Optus Oval.

>Andrew Walker's Debut
Just an amazing day, will hopefully be able to say I was there with the other 45,000 people when he retires a champion.

Replying to this post for 2 reasons, firstly, to bring this back to page 1 on the eve of our final game, AND, to reply to this post from Synbad:

Cant look back now.. to me its a shit hole and something that belongs to the pàst.

Describing Princes Park as a shithole Synbad is a disgrace. You got off this post lightly IMO.
I voted for the move to TD & MCG but I still love Princes Park & it will be a sad day tomorrow. :(

Yep was there for all those and they will remain great memories! The other one that stands out to me are:

Kouta's game against the roos in 2000. Coming up against the reigning premiers who were above us on the ladder at that stage I think, this was the chance to prove ourselves worthy of flag contenders and boy did we deliver! Especially Kouta, he rose above all others and kicked the 5 goals from midfield that was the winning margin at the end of the game. John Longmire described his game as "a man playing amongst kids" and seeing this match was of such a high standard, that is massive praise!

One more to add after yesterday.

Kouta the magnificent. The glory days of soaring marks might be just a memory but his work in the middle to try and single-handedly drag his team in to the game showed his talent, leadership and love for the jumper.

Forget the result I'm going to always remember Kouta and Big Nick - separated by generations but united in what they have given to the club.
