This looks like a good bit of telly for the likes of us here, but it says this is Part 2 of the interview, did anyone see Part 1?

Looks like tonight's show will focus on Black Jack's departure and the 1995 GF. :D

I'll get in first and say it now, Sticks is an absolute legend of the club and they don't get much better than Stephen Kernahan.

Yes! Thanks for the heads up camel, I'd have been likely to miss it without the reminder.

Last week's "Part 1" was great. Lots of footage of young Sticks including footage of him playing for Glenelg. Sticks said he was used to taking 12 marks a game when playing for Glenelg and got frustrated when he first came to Carlton and wasn't dominating games. Also said he was very surprised to be made captain after one year and said he pretty much accepted the role before he'd realised what had happened.

He and Walls thought we had the potential to win three to five consequtive premierships in the mid to late 80s, and as such we underachieved by only snaring the '87 flag.

Spoke a bit about Motley and suggested he could've be better and played more games then Bradley because he was bigger and fitter than Bradley.

Part 2 should be just as good, though slightly less nostalgic for me, as it will be covering the Sticks years when I was an adult, as opposed to a wide-eyd kid with stars in his eyes.

Kernahan = Champion.

Yeah it was camel, but they normally replay it a few times so you shouldn't miss it.

They will repeat it I am sure. Especially over the off-season.

I have the first one taped, but have not seen it yet, will tape tonights and watch them both together. Should be good, Sticks is an absolute legend.

Still irks me when supporters from other teams do not acknowledge how good he was. :?

It was. It was actually on at least twice. I missed the start last Wednesday and just so happened to catch it again on Thursday night I think. Or maybe Friday. So I got to see the start. Didn't think I'd watch it all the way through the second time, but couldn't help myself.

Watched both parts.

Wasn't very well put together for my money, but still enjoyable without being brilliant. Lazy editing meant most of the Sticks highlights were just a hotch potch of grabs from wherever they could find rather than a really good package where he tore a particular game apart or domintaed a quarter etc.

Same when they showed highlights of other players. When Walls asked Sticks who the best player he saw at Carlton was, Sticks mentioned Johnston, Braddles, Williams and Madden, and then when on to say that Kouta in 2000 was sensational and did things on the footy field that he's never seen before. Would have been appropriate then to show Kouta grabbing the ball one handed and running through four guys etc, but lazily they just showed a couple of one on one marks.

That said, Sticks is a Carlton legend. When asked by Walls if he was tempted to go to Adelaide in 92 , when they offered him a ton of money and his two bets friends were Captain and VC (McDermott and McGuiness) Sticks said that he was never going to go and that his only two loves in footy were Glenelg and Carlton. You gotta love the man!

I actually shed a tear when he spoke about his love for Carlton, especially the part about never wanting to leave in '92 and the factional war between Elliott and Collins.

Said he wasn't an Elliott man, and wasn't a Collins man, was rather a Carlton man. :D

There'll never be another leader like Kernahan. Best captain ever.

I met him at Chadstone when he was doing a book signing and I said thanks for staying with the club when he could have gone back to SA. His reply was, "Thanks, but it wasn't a hard decison to make".

What a guy!

We were both fortunate and spoilt to have him as our leader for so long.

The greatest!! I think even we underrate how good he was as a player in the late 80's and early 90's. It seems to be forgotten because we normally talk about what a great captain he was.

He really did carry this football club, not just the football team.

It irks me also that opposition supporters never rated him as highly as he should. I remember constantly defending him at school, reckon it almost came to blows I used tog et that frustrated when they couldn't see it.

Sticks in the State games against Vic. That should remind people of how good he was. Aint too many people who've kicked 10 goals in a state game before.
