Spare a thought for the Essendon* finance team who will be required to work through the weekend to recut their budgets, to take out the $1m for winning both flags, which as far as they were concerned was in the bank.

Now that you mention it, I've severely underdone it at a mill. Take into account the box sets, the t-shirts, the drinking mugs, the pose with both cup photos, we could be pushing $2 mill.

The handballing skills was bloody fantastic, Ratten must have taught them to do it the proper way.

Thornton seems to picked up his speed once again, he looked a lot quicker.

Waite was sensational in the back, read the play really well.

And what's up with our jumper? The collar looks so high and tight.

Scrappy game from two teams who will most likely finish bottom four.

Great to see gibbs out there. Thought Setanta and Waite were great down back. Still a long way to go though skill wise. Lots of unrealised potential there though.

How was Gibbo's debut? Will I be happy with the recording (apart from the outcome)?

Great first half, and a shaky second half where we thankfully held on.

How good was Waitey on the half back line!!!!!!!!

He has finaly found a spot to dominate 8)

Setanta was great also, jumped as high as the sky when he out marked Hird :-D

Cloke nearly took an almighty specky. He seems to have alot of potential so we need to work hard at extracting it all out of him!

Fev will dominate this year again. I was expecting a big one from him tonight as he is in prestine nick.

Can't wait for the next game.

Go Blues!

Good. Loved his first touch (at least it was the first one I saw at the ground). Handball out of traffic, set up a passage of possessions.

Wooden spoon is a huge reward these days. 8)

The best thing about tonight was seeing the Bummer fans faces as they realised that Sheedy had bullshitted them again. He promised them a top 4 team and delivered a trumped up VFL team.
Their fitness was what got them back in the game. When Carlton ran out of puff they were able to run unopposed and score. They are as soft as treacle and dumb as goats.

Fletcher seems lost now that he cant put his hands in the FFs back.

Just watching the replay.

Love that our first goal in anger in 07 was kicked by Lance.

Agreed, but I think we've had enough?!

was at the game tonight and obviously very happy. A few points.

Waite was outstanding for mine tonight. We have our centre half back. At least here he can has more opportunities to use his great talent.

Setanta was also very good at Full Back. Like in the last few games last year he took some wonderful marks that other players just couldnt make..Hes good.

From the smalls I thought Murphy was a class above, just one poor kick. Simpson was fantastic and get him a couple of games under his belt and he has real all australian potential to me this year.

I know many have questioned the getting of Ackland and in particular Cloke me included, but I havent seen a Carlton ruckmen get so much ball around the ground and generally contribute and look like conributing since Madden's days than these 2 did tonight. Both to me just looked like they will actually contribute by taking marks and getting valuable touches around the ground. This was a huge plus for me especially as i thought we would be as bad as always in this area..thats very exciting.

Andrew Walker was really good tonight.

I thought Jordan Russell had a really good game tonight. He has the pace we need and got some really good clearances. Looks like he is finally feeling part of the team and that he actually belongs out there.

Overall it was the first pre season game but I think we have a lot to look forward to this year. Simply the disposal and number of errors has improved considerably. It's not perfect but it wasnt mistake ridden like it often is.

Finally what the hell is Kermot Brereton going on about. Saying we'll probably finish last and we generally are pretrty ordinary..of course im paraphrasing. I was disappointed with that because I believed we have showed that we can definately jump a few rungs on the ladder this year.

The main positives for me were:

- Waite and Setanta in defense
- The performance of JR who gives us much needed leg speed in the middle of the ground both offensively and defensively.

Also happy to read that both Bower and Hampson showed plenty for the Bullants.
