Only worry about GT is what I've heard about his unilateral/dictatorial approach.
As for the new position, the following is being advertised:

A.F.L. & Melbourne based
Leadership role
Develop a young playing list
Our client, a member of the AFL, and one of the most prestigious brands within the AFL, is seeking to appoint a General Manager of Football Operations.

This senior position will be responsible for the entire operations within the football department, reporting directly to the club’s CEO, and forming a close working relationship with the senior coach.

The role will include the management of coaches, football administration, overseeing of the senior player list, management of an exciting young list, retention strategies, execution of budgets and forecasting, and performance management of the football department.

Additionally, the scope of this role will also include: overseeing recruitment (talent identification) strategies; conditioning, medical and rehabilitation management; contracting and list management, player education, training, and leadership development; and management of all football related operational matters.

The successful candidate will have a strong winning background in AFL football management, or a sports related discipline. Naturally, a business management background will be highly advantageous to this role.

Applications close Wednesday 21st February 2007.

That's a role for a pretty heavy hitter.

No disrespect to Grant Williams, but it looks like we're prepared to significantly trade-up rather than merely replace him.

Good news :!:

The club has obviously taken the opportunity to add a few more strings to the bow of the Football Managers role.

Like most clubs, it appears CFC is looking for a person to be a list manager to assist and work hand in hand with WH.

Regards Cazzesman

I think now we're in a position to get the best possible candidate. I dare say if we hire GT as football manager, it'll be for the right reasons

Have you read the entire thread?

A couple of people have mentioned it.

Hiring the emu in your avatar would make more sense than that Grant "Tosspot" Thomas.

In fact hiring the hand that is stuck up the emu in your avatar would be preferable.

Wasn't GT formerly working in the insurance industry? The role advertised sounds like a difficult one to fill with football experience and business required.

Looks like leadership training, mentoring seems to be part of the role too - basically doing what the former PACE manager did and then some. I hope the role is well remunerated.

At least we're advertising for candidates for interview rather than just appointing someone without a proper search.

I wouldn't get out of bed for the money they probably want to pay :-)

Besides I would have no idea what to do, which is probably more to the point

I enjoy being a mere foot soldier with all care and no responsibility.

Turn up, Watch, Write, Email. So easy a trained monkey could do it

Is it full time role? or is it a role of several days a week or something of that nature?
