David Rhys-Jones. Never the same after that knee injury in 1990. Struggled on to the end of 1992, missing alot of games in the process, but I'm sure he could have gone longer and alot more successfully.

Was forced to retire at the age of just 20

I remember Hoppner well. As a 14 - 16 year old, he was rated probably where Gibbs was: he was a certain 1st round pick. Then he got injured. He still did enough to get picked up, but #70 was indication that a LOT of clubs had questions. He trained very well, but was NEVER fit. Not once in the whole time he was at Carlton.
I think he had 3 shoulder recos and lower leg problems. I'm not certain (memory failing?), but I think he had a op for shin splints back in 1998.

Scott Saunders

a handy on-baller that had to retire due to suffering injury after injury starting from the age of 17.

Robert Wall's career was finished by a kick by Warwick Capper.

Jon has been wrongly maligned over this 'incident' for years - he was merelyl warming up/fluffing waiting for his turn.

Keith Warburton was cut down in his prime.

Nearly died after a semi final in 1952 after a knock to the abdomen..

Several kidney knocks saw him retire prematurely in 1954.

Reading many Carlton history books over the years it would seem he was one of the greatest high fliers of all time.

Perhaps the ultimate "loss in his prime" had to be my boyhood hero Maurie Sankey.
He was tragically killed in a car accident in 1965.He was just 25 and had played 100 games. There was no doubt that he would have gone on to be an integral part of our Premierships in 1968/1970.
Additionally there was no doubt he would have bee an all-time great of the Club!

'The Acrobat' was indeed a special. Still hard to go past Peter Motley though. :(

Adam Mathews was injury prone and did his shoulder around 3 times while at the club.

Carlton seemed to want him to be ruckmen but was used as a half forward/ full forward in the Ovens & Murray League a couple of years ago and his team won a premiership (Lavington). He was their best player in this game.

Andrew Phillips without doubt.

Would have played 300 games and won a couple of B&F's
