it would be great if carlton supporters clubs could be set up at each uni. This would allow carlto nfans to sign up and participate in various activities concerning Carlton. It may influence those that aren't members to become members. There could also be a sign off on the form saying that they give the club committee permission to pass on their details to the Carlton football club, thus extending the club's database. If say there are on average 30,000 students at each uni, you'd think there would be a fair few carlton supporters at each one. Activities are not hard to organize either, and can vary from a bbq at uni to getting together and watching an interstate match.

In particular with the University of Melbourne which is only a couple of Fev drop punts from Princes Park - Carlton has sorely missed the boat with developing a relationship with University of Melbourne, in particular with elite training facilities and the on campus sports sciences etc.

I would have thought the University of Melbourne would have been a natural partner with the development of our elite training facilities at Princes Park as well.

I have often wondered the same thing, I mean we have one of the most prestigious university's in Australia not far away. We should have taken advantage of that.

Its actually something I mentioned in the "cash raising ideas" thread a while back founding a good alliance with the University of Melbourne.

Mentioned ideas like possibly purchasing some rental properties in the area and combining student accommodation with membership deals and the like. We really should be fostering some sort of link here.

They have been known to use some of the facilities.

I ve already mentioned this in the 'acorns' thread but there are around 8000 international students at melb uni many of whom stay on to live and work in melbourne. there could be an opportunity for the club to promote the brand to these students. I ve also mentioned that the club should do more promotion to younger members and package a 'night at the footy' concept where you can see a game, have a drink and a dance afterwards and perhaps meet some of the younger players. this could happen a few times a year at the social club or at the dome.

I actually work at melb Uni with International students (mostly American) and always take a group of 20-30 to a game at the beginning of each semester. I have called the club up several times, and even got the GM of the faculty I work in to ring the club to see if there was a possibility of having some involvement withh the Blues, but have been shot down by idiots on the phone on several occasions. I even enquired about having a bbq att the club before the drawn match against the Essnscum last year, but again they said no (in fact, I think they said we could have one in prionces park, but not at Optus...)

well, to be honest, they did send me a few membership applications and stickers, but people who are here for less than 6 months don't really want to buy memberships...but I did convince a few to get scarves!

Great to see you taking initiative and my only advice is to keep trying. Hopefully with the new board and President, the club may open their eyes to opportunities like this and be more receptive. Also, maybe direct your enquiry in writing and hopefully that has more success getting through than just talking to whoever answers the phone.
