? vs Lance Franklin

Give Santy a crack at him. we might see some flowering hitting start then!! :)

? vs Chris Judd

Has to be Walker on the Juddster

? vs Jeff Farmer

Maybe Jordan Russell could get this role

? vs Adam Goodes

I'm tempted to say Santy again here but when we play the swans Santy will smash hall. The alternative is to get Andrew walker to play on him

? vs Ryan Griffin

Thornton perhaps

? vs Scott Gumbleton

I dont know much about gumbleton but I reckon Waite might be a goer here

? vs Barry Hall

SANTY - has done the job on him last season and no reason he cant smash Hall again...

Walks/Grigg(Has pace height let see what he is made out of? vs Chris Judd

Carrazzo/Joey Anderson(Love to see this match up) vs Jeff Farmer

Thornton has the mobility vs Adam Goodes

Russell similar in size and pace vs Ryan Griffin

Bower/Sentanta/Hartlett/Thornton(We have a few to select from now) vs Scott Gumbleton

Thornton/Sentanta(Coz he did the job once doesn't mean he wil do it agin.Maybe Hall was having a bad day when they played.Barry Hall is a champion. vs Barry Hall

I think we should throw in few youngsters onto some of these top notch names. Maybe they can learn a thing or two. Sometimes you need to take 1 step back to go 2 steps forward!

Walker vs Lance Franklin

Mr Anderson vs Chris Judd

Russell or Anderson vs Jeff Farmer

Bower vs Adam Goodes

Gibbs vs Ryan Griffin (Hurt him the other way)

Bower vs Scott Gumbleton

Carlos vs Barry Hall

Carlos vs John Brown

Waite vs Pavlich

Murphy/Stevens vs Bartel (Head to Head)

Carlos vs Tredrea

Bower vs Chad Cornes (If CC is playing forward, otherwise play Whitnall at CHF with CC at CHB)

Carlos vs Richo

Carlos vs Gherig

Waite Vs Riewoldt

Simmo vs Dal Santo (Head to Head)

Mr Anderson/Blackers vs Kerr

Murphy vs Cousins (Head to Head)

Walker/Russell/Grigg vs Embley

Gibbs vs Akermanis

Mr Anderson vs Cooney

IMO Carlos is our big bodied gorilla. What better way to learn the ropes and grow his confidence. I don't think a bag against him would dampen his confidence too much given his attitude to win the contest and improve.

Alot of the pure midfielders i would go head to head against. I'm confident we will come out even, it is only the fatigue/teamwork that would let us down in this area.

Back flankers are going to run hard, so lets match them up with someone who can hurt them when the ball is turned over.

Mr Anderson i see as a run with player this year. High hopes for the kid.

Russell i would like to see playing back pocket this year.

Waite to play cameos front and back.

Budzy,

I am no expert in tactics. But these are the questions that I remember we used to answer from you in the off-season of year's past (before Politics stepped in the way!). So, it is nice to see your thought provoking questions back. I'll have a stab at some answers, but I really don't claim to have a very tactical understanding of the game:

Lance Franklin - you'd have to give Setanta first crack. Next option is tough though. But with his height and pace I wouldn't rule out Paul Bower.

Chris Judd - only option is Walker for me. Unless you wanted to be radical and let Stevens and Judd play wide of each other. It would be taking a bet on Stevens doing more damage than Judd though, and that would be like playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets!

Jeff Farmer - hmmm...... no harm in giving young Anderson a go if he is ready to play.

Adam Goodes - Walker or Bower. Or a fit Jarrad Waite.

Ryan Griffin - I know Griffin plays off half back, but I reckon this could be a really good opportunity for Bryce Gibbs. He could be a damaging marking option from the HFF, and would get the opportunity to look at the development of a really class youngster after a few years in the game.

Scott Gumbleton - Setanta again.

Barry Hall - T-Bird would still get first crack for mine

Santy is going to be busy.....as is Walker....I'm keen to see Walker take a more positive role rather than minding everyone elses superstars...AW needs to be bolting away from packs and kicking a few goals for us rather than be used as a stopper every week..

Pace will be an issue.....we lack a few speedsters who have express speed....something to work on in next years draft.

I'm hoping for less tagging and more attack......

re: defense....Tim Pagan has indicated Waite will play at CHB so I presume Jarrod will play on players like Tredrae, Brown etc......maybe he can do a Chad Cornes and rather than try and defend become an attacking weapon like Cornes is...

re: Kerr....been nearly the best player in the comp and is super quick and smart....anderson and blackers would be slaughtered......Carazzo would be my first choice....

Sentanta/Thornton/Bower/Harts Vs Riewoldt

The two above are hard as WCE have too many midfield options.

i think that Judd vs Walker could potentially become a Silvagni/Ablett Carey/Jackovich or Buckley/Hird calibur rivalry...1AW is the perfect athlete to match up on Juddy.

if Judd isnt marked by Walker, the likely match-up would be Bannister i think..he seems to be the fast tagger.

Great stuff TCers, good initiative Budzy. Bring on the footy.

Not an easy exercise.

We do have some speed though.

Walker, Wiggo and Bannister are reliable taggers with experience, but don't discount Benjamin, Anderson or Grigg; they are even faster.

I don't think Thornton on Hall, albeit good match up, because Hall has the advantage of strength.

I like the idea of Hall's opponent having some advantages over him, and Setanta has. He has reach to spoil, he's good below his knees and has pace to burn.

Waite / Setanta / Thornton to get the KP's whilst Bower proves he's ready. Pref Thornton on the 3rd tall.

A good point that was made about Walker...let the opposition start worrying about him.

WCE should be more worried about Murphy Stevens Simpson and Carrazzo....You can't tag Judd....you've got to win the nut more than him and hurt him on the scoreboard.

Wiggo vs Griffin is a good idea.

Gibbs vs Cooney (or even Griffin has merit)

Acker vs walker

Fish vs Embley

Lance vs Chad Cornes is another good idea as far as trying to get Chad out of the play a bit, but if Chad has the ball he likes to break the lines...I don't think Lance has got enough pace...but maybe it should be Aisake

The hardest match ups for me are Goodes, Judd, Reiwoldt and Richo.

Richo is the scary one in my book...only Setanta has the height and pace, and should be a bit stronger than he was last year.

Same applies with Reiwoldt. Setanta.

Gherig Thornton / Waite.

Goodes vs ???shit.....can only be Walker or even try Benjamin.

Good reality check boys!! Our boys have a bit of proving to do.

Walker on all of them :)

I dont really understand the complaints with Walker playing on the oppositions best players. Its where he's played his best football and he's just about ready to seriously be able to hurt them going back the other way.

Tex is a good match up on almost anyone under 190cm. I wouldn't play him on Franklin, Reiwoldt, Brown, Gehrig, Hall. The great thing is we now have the option of Bower and Santy who showed in the last game against Sydney they're capable on matching up on these guys.

Couple of other players in the WCE mid-field mix called Kerr and Cousins that might just have a something to say about that. Lets hope Stevens, Carrazzo, Simpson, Murphy and Gibbs are up to the task.

Prefer to do it my way - I would rather spend the 20 years behind bars than have Hartlett doing 6 weeks.
