He's still got two seasons. Sack him at the end of 2008.

Quality post.

What if we make the finals in 2008, would you still want him sacked? :?

Yep, truth is that we can't afford him (even if he was any good) but for now we're stuck with him. A new coach now would cost us an extra $200,000-$250,000 a year for the next two year while still playing Pagan's current contract off. Getting a new coach when Pagan's contract expires would save the club around $500,000 a year. So we wait.

What happens if we scrape into the finals this year and in 2008 the team really gels together? Do we still sack him? What effect would this have on the playing group? Possibly it would me far more effective to renegotiate his contract to a more reasonable level.

Im undecided about Pagan to be honest. I didnt want him in the first place but now that we are resembling a talented team with a future in the not too distant future and our current financial plight makes sacking him uneconomical Id like to see what he can do over the next twelve months before rushing into anything.

Hmmm.. if a miracle happens do we still sack him.... yes. The clubs survival depends on it.

Why does it depend upon it? If the results come and we keep him on at a reduced rate how does it sink the club?

Because that will never happen. Pagan's not going to accept a $500,000 a year pay decrease.

If Pagan wins a premiership for Carlton then he's done his job.
If the club still has no money - the board and marketing dept are at fault.
You have a lot to learn young Jedi.

ROFL!

We aren't going to be winning a premiership in the next two years.
