The Paganites were saying back in 2003 to judge him after 3 years. You can't keep making excuses and moving the goal posts. He took over a spoon side and 4 years later we're still there.

u cant build a house without bricks, he's finally got his bricks so the final paragraph of the article rings pretty true in my ears...

"Given the circumstances, Carlton fans and critics alike, should not judge Pagan’s last four years on their win/loss record alone. That should be saved for 2008 when the current group of youngsters will have between thirty and fifty games under their belts and should be a genuine chance of playing in finals. If they continue to perform poorly then by all means heap criticism on Dennis and tear your memberships up in disgust if the club doesn’t sack him. In the mean time let Pagan do his thing and watch the young Blues grow and prosper. "

unless of course you want to live in a $hitty weatherboard house :-D

this squad has another 2-3 years to develop and gel no matter who the coach is.

He's still got two seasons. Sack him at the end of 2008.

Every session during those 2-3 years is critical Winfield in making those players the best they can be.
I'd rather our kids be coached by someone with a grasp of tactics and structures.

I question his commitment to the coaching role at Carlton and view it purely as superannuation..his results dont justify the outlay of money.
He is more interested in building a stable of racehorses..at around $100 a day to have David Hayes look after your horse he needs the money.....

What if we make the finals in 2008, would you still want him sacked? :?

Yep, truth is that we can't afford him (even if he was any good) but for now we're stuck with him. A new coach now would cost us an extra $200,000-$250,000 a year for the next two year while still playing Pagan's current contract off. Getting a new coach when Pagan's contract expires would save the club around $500,000 a year. So we wait.

What about just terminating his contract and not appointing a senior coach. 8) 8) Just let the guys currently coaching Rock Paper Scissor it for match day duties. I'm sure Ratten would be happy to see out the year doing what his doing and getting the same money for it.

Just in the short term whilst money is tight. 8) 8)

What happens if we scrape into the finals this year and in 2008 the team really gels together? Do we still sack him? What effect would this have on the playing group? Possibly it would me far more effective to renegotiate his contract to a more reasonable level.

Im undecided about Pagan to be honest. I didnt want him in the first place but now that we are resembling a talented team with a future in the not too distant future and our current financial plight makes sacking him uneconomical Id like to see what he can do over the next twelve months before rushing into anything.

Hmmm.. if a miracle happens do we still sack him.... yes. The clubs survival depends on it.

Perhaps he could attend the AFL coaching conference.
With keynote speakers like Eade, Bond etc, he may learn a bit.

Why does it depend upon it? If the results come and we keep him on at a reduced rate how does it sink the club?

If we make the finals in 2008 with a couple more top line youngsters in the squad and agrees to a new contract significantly less than the current one, I don't see the reason why we need to disrupt the rhythm to upease a minority.
