One of my favourite Diesel memories was a little piece of play at Princes Park...no not the 'goal' he kicked against West Coast, although that was brilliant. I don't remember the year, the opponant or anything else about the game, but he fired a 20m handball through loads of traffic in the centre of the ground and hit a running Earl Spalding on the chest who steadied and kicked a goal.

Just one of those moments thatstand out and made me realise at the time what a player he was.

He kicked a number of 5 goal bags in 1995, playing that forward pocket role, with limited time on ball. One against the Kanga's at Princes Park with Dean Laidley playing on him will always stand out.

No matter how good Kouta was in that Grand Final, Williams was clearly best on ground.

One that sticks in my mind, even though I cant remember which game
it was.
He was running up the left wing, and hooked a left footer to Adrian Gleeson standing 20 Metres out right in front, on his own.

The commentators were amazed, saying did he mean that.
He sure did.
A brilliant footy brain.

I remember him casually running past Derek Kickett in that drawn game in 93. Kickett had the ball on the wing & had his back to Williams - Diesel called for it & Kickett handpassed it over his head to him

These pics are great. I'm on a pretty fancy pants ADSL2+ connection, and I can see the images fine thanks Warbs.

A couple of Classic Covers to tide us over Christmas....Memories!

First....Geoff Southby and Vinnie Waite get rid of Neil Balme.

And then Peter McConville's kicking style in 1981.

25 years ago; we had players like Bruce Doull and
Val Perovic in defence shown here outmarking
Peter McCormack with Rene Kink watching.

Image

In 1979; we had Percy Jones holding up the Premiership Cup
with Captain Coach Alex Jesaulenko.

Image

In 1982; we once again won the Flag; making it back to back wins.

Image

This Football Record covered the Carlton vs Hawthorn
game of August 5; 1978.....here we see Percy Jones
contesting a ball up with Michael Moncrieff......
that's Geoff Southby watching and waiting.

Image

This is a great pic of Champion ruckman Mike Fitzpatrick
and coach David Parkin holding up the 1981 Premiership Cup.;
the first of two in a row; and the second Carlton Flag in 3 years.

On August 29; 1970; we travelled to the MCG to see Carlton vs Melbourne.

What we really wanted to see (almost even more than a win) was Jezza to kick his 100th goal.

I just can't recall how many he needed to kick.....it may have been 5 ???

It was so bloody frustrating going right thru the 3rd qtr. with him stuck on 99 goals.....
time after time he marked and went back and either missed or didn't make the distance; we reckoned it was nerves.

Even at his very best; Jezza's only slight weakness was his inability to kick long; and this showed with his annoyance every time he missed.

But..he did it!......amongst all of my Carlton stuff, I found this yellowing account of his achievement from the Age of Monday August 31- 1970.

Warbs, I remember this one really well as it was my first game live. I was a 9 year old kid and I had never seen footy in the flesh before.
It was something special, even getting there nice and early to watch the 2's.
You could tell early in the first quarter that we had Melbourne's measure. They struggled to get the ball forward, we moved it well and hit our forward with precision. Jezza had a lot of the ball and kicked a couple of good early goals, but seemed stranded on 99. Lead, mark, kick, touched. Lead, mark, kick, just miss. It repeated itself about 5 times in that quarter. Finally I am not sure that Melbourne didn't just give in, as I still can't believe they didn't touch the 100th. It was a mirror image of the previous shots.
I didn't run onto the ground. By the time I would have got over the fence, the game would have restarted. I was an unfit little kid. I wouldn't have got within 20 m of him with that crowd anyway.
I wore out that footy record, I think. It is the only one of all the games I have seen that I no longer have.

Yes Steve....the memory of that day is still strong, although I just can't recall how many he needed to kick before the game.

If I could ever find that footy record I could tell..... Don't know what happened to it. Since then I have made sure I have never misplaced a single one.

Regretfully; when we moved from Caulfield down here 3 years ago; I sold stacks and stacks of Footy Records and even my old Members Tickets to a Collector.....
we just had so much stuff we'd accumulated, and we had to bite the bullet.

Paradoxically; we moved into a much bigger house; but with less storage cupboards, and....I didn't know at that stage I'd be posting on Footy sites in the future.

But....I have retained a huge carton of stuff thankfully; some of which I've been slowly putting up in this thread in the off season.

Jezza was on 95 goals after kicking 5 goals against Footscray in Round 21, he needed and got 5 goals for the 100 in the Melbourne game in Round 22.

Warb's, they say music soothes the savage beast.

Well at the moment the entire Carlton Populace is pretty savage (including yours truly  ).

Having a look at all this stuff is very, very soothing.

I have dug up my 1972 Grand Final record and had a loving look at it - as well as my collection of newspapers, yes very very soothing.

But then reality sets in. :P
