I doubt very much that all clubs operate on the same break even point. Essendon* would have a great deal, our's I reckon would be pretty good, St Kilda and the Bulldog's somewhere after that.

That's about my guestimation of the pecking order too Brad, so I wonder if we really do need an extra 15k, or if its maybe even as low as 10k or something??? Yes, all speculation on my part as well.

My logic says we would, then again my logic has no idea what kind of deal we got. Hopefully we don't need too many extra's and we're doing great out of TD, the crowds keep up and we can lure more money from sponsors

At the Guernsey Sponsor's dinner, Graham Smorgon said that the actual "paid" seats for the Club last Friday night was about 53000.

Essendon* had written into their deal that no club could get a better deal.

Not equal - better...

Guess what our deal was...

What does that mean, given that there were 49,000? I sat on level 3 and didn't pay for a seat.

Interesting Heady. That seems to be forgotten in this whole debate. There must be others like me who pay premium gold Memberships, that come with reserved seating, who are unable to attend.

In my case, living in Sydney, some lucky Carlton supporters have had an empty seat next to them at Optus,MCG and Telstra for a couple of years.

The bottom line is that the club makes their money(in advance) regardless.Bums on seats are not an issue on pre-paid reserved seats...

Will attempt to do a FTA coverage predictor for the rest of the season.
Up until today we have had 3 out of 7 games on FTA.

R8 vs Geelong - YES, Friday night Home game

R9 vs Melbourne - YES (apparently) Farewell Optus Oval game - call me cynical but I thought Pies v WCE game at the MCG would have got preference.

R10 vs Adelaide - YES (Ch9 Sunday arvo game 1:10pm start in Adelaide)

R11 vs Sydney (TD) - Unknown - Richmond v West Coast at MCG at the same time. Will put it down as a Yes given the Sydney market.

R12 vs Brisbane (TD at night) - YES

R13 vs Doggies (Darwin at night) - Unknown - Richmond v Crows at TD at the same time. Will put it down as a NO given Ch10 dont often cover games on Sat night outside of Melbourne.

R14 vs Weagles at Subi - NO

R15 vs Saints at TD (Sunday) - YES (4:00 highlights package)

R16 vs Freo at MCG (Sunday) - NO (Hawks vs Kangas)

R17 vs Hawks at MCG (Saturday) - Unknown (Doggies v Cats) will put down a YES

R18 vs Richmond (TD Sunday) - Unknown (Pies v Freo at MCG) will put down a no given it Ch9 and Collingwood

R19 vs Port (MCG Sunday) - NO (Pies vs Kangas)

R20 vs Collingwood (Sat night) - YES

R21 vs Essendon* (Sun MCG) - YES

R22 vs Kangas (Sun TD) - NO (Essendon* v Melbourne)

Thats 7 definites, 4 unknowns, and 4 definite NO.

That ensures we get at least 10 (potentially up to 14) games on FTA for the season with 2 more Home night games to come. Last year I think we had 7. What hurt us last year though was that we only had 2 FTA games in our first 11. Could be a reason on why we stuggled to attract sponsors last year.

As far as crowds go in relation to our home games against interstate sides. I would be dissapointed if we couldnt get the following figures (given that we dont fall in a heap and go back to our 2002 and 2003 form)

Sydney - TD Sat arvo, 32000-34000

Brisbane - TD Sat night, 34000-36000

Freo - MCG Sun arvo, 25000-27000 (weather permitting)

Port - MCG Sun arvo, 26000-28000 (weather permitting

Whats hurting us there is that we play Port and Freo instead of the more glamourous and more supported Crows and West Coast. Could have topped 30000 in those games. A good idea though playing those 2 sides at the MCG, given that the break even figure is lower that at the Dome.

45,758 at the Dome tonight. I guess that could be seen as being a touch disappointing against a side we have drawn some very healthy attendances. However, still a pretty good crowd given last week's train wreck.

while a crowd of nearly 46,000 is still quite good the disappointing thing is if the club was playing good footy there would have been over 50,000 and a good game to show off the Carlton Football Club on FNF.

The poor performances will affect the build up to the OO finale.
Its hard to get excited for a game when the team is such a rabble.

After the Hawthorn game I predicted the Geelong match would be about 45-46 thousand. Why? Because they made it fully ticketed.

As I said in a thread a couple of weeks ago, there's some evidence that the fully-ticketing reduces attendance. People who have booked don't turn up (are sick, have to work, a conflict comes up, etc) and the League and the ground manager can't give that seat to someone else.

At quarter time last night the only tickets still available were standing room and restrcted view on Lvl 3. Scanning the top level I saw quite a few batches of 3 or 4 empty seats, and there was one bay (behind the Locket goal) that was 3/4 full.

(I have Premium Gold seats on level 2, and there were more people in our bay last night than there were at the Hawthorn game.)
