Ruckus,

It might be that they know that they can't win, but want to highlight to the media that half of the board have no confidence in the Smorgon and Malouf.

This might be a political tactic to try and oust them.

Political tactic certainly. Smorgon and co know about the rival ticket, they know there is money about to be put in. This was the bloodless coup the new ticket and the disenchanted 5 were hoping for. They were probably hoping Smorgon would see the writing on the wall and call it a day. All this has ensured is that there will be some bloodletting unfortunately, much bitterness and much media attention we would rather do without.

Perhaps because the money men haven't identified themselves, the Smorgon faction is loathe to roll over and play dead for the likes of Diggins who would be feeling pretty smug right now, about being part of the new ticket by default. So the egos are probably thinking, if I am going, you are going too. Diggins is a means to an end but no doubt thinks she is backing a winner. A political patsy if you will.

I wonder if Smorgon will quit anyway, but just do it without having dissenting board members grinning across the boardroom table at him. Will be interesting to see how it all goes down. I'm not sure the whole 5 that are backing Smorgon absolutely have to go, just as I am not sure that the 5 that are now backing the new ticket have to stay. Probably an 80% cleanout would be appropriate though.

It would be hard to make a case for more than one or two of the current board to stay

So we have 2 factions consisting of 5 fools each.

This is not ideal.

There must be a full spill.

The most disappointing thing is that there are NO NEW NAMES. These 10 keep playing games with eachother because nobody is threatening to challenge/replace them.

The whole Howard Mitchell (?) thing was promising but a flop. Until some serious challengers front up these 10 will backstab indefinitely. Who wants to be the President to lead us all out of this? Unfortunately, it seems no-one is interested. So we're left with these fools.

To those in the know, I ask - ARE THERE ANY NEW NAMES????? We need some badly.

Dont you love how all this happens and

Quote:
Smorgon gives the impression all will be well when the board situation is resolved, specifically, when Lauraine Diggins is removed, even if she continues to dig her stilettos in at the board table.

All of this commotion because of one L Diggins???

Smorgon thinks he can wallpaper over everything....

If we are gong to make a loss of a million dollars this year and a further half million dollars the year after.... how are we going to pay back the AFLs loan???

Oh and you have to love this bit....

Quote:
Without apportioning blame, he said the problem would be eliminated by the scheduled departure of directors John Valmorbida and Bruce Mathieson at the December board meeting, and the inevitable removal of the stubborn Diggins, who has lost the confidence of her fellow directors.

Problem is that until the alternatives are flushed out, Smorgon is the only one making public statements. So, now he is spinning Diggins, Valmorbida, and Mathieson as the cause of trouble.

At some stage people are going to have to out themselves and make statements. Because at the moment, Smorgon is casting the others as the destabilising factors that are holding us back.

I wonder who the sneaky leaker is...I think it's Smorgon himself.

Smorgon needs to bear in mind his own statement about Diggins. He doesn't have the support of a majority of the Board.

Kernahan gives me the sh*ts. A bigger 'yes' man you wouldn't find. I'm treading on eggshells here, but what a tool.

Unfortunately the ordinary Carlton member is an even bigger tool if they think that Kernahan is good for the Board.

Maybe steve they - or any incoming ticket - thinks that it will be difficult to win an election given a) popularity of Kernahan, b) source of the money...is it from Elliott supporters and can Smorgon's group use this to their advantage?

I'd appreciate anyone filling me in on why the timing. It doesn't look like a natural pressure point unless there's something else behind it. They should have known Smorgon wouldnt walk unless the decision was made for him by what wsa being presented.

Interesting the spin put in the papers - that its Valmorbida and DIggins with lukewarm support from Lee / Newton. Sounds like something Smorgon would say to make the 5/5 sound more like 8/2.

Pardon my ignorance. But isn't Smorgan up for election from the members. Simple, we dont vote for him and then he is not there. Don't know much about these things Sorry.

That's why there's so much 'positive' press coming out from Smorgon, Fevola - it makes the swinging voters etc think he's the man for the job.

Caro's Article:

■Smorgon said that as well as the forthcoming $12.7 million redevelopment, a long-term plan was to pull down a second stand — the Legends — and open the stadium to public parkland;

As if there isn't enough park land around Princes Park? How about using the money for other more important things.

"I would have rathered we had made a decision over the coach at the first meeting," conceded Smorgon, "but by 11pm that night we were brain dead and completely exhausted. That is now in the past and I would rather talk about the future … I wish we had the luxury of more money to put into the football department but any extra money we do get will go there and not into marketing or commercial operations. Our on-field results are the most important thing."

Now this is what I'm talking about as indecision. Brain dead at 11pm  poor boy, i hope mummy gave you a nice cup of milo and wrapped you up tightly in bed.

Mike's Article:

In his words: "We are actually in charge of things and we know what we're doing.

"We're doing it in consultation with the AFL, but we're doing it Carlton's way."

I'm going to be sick

"Finally, our focus is to win games."

Your kidding aren't you

How come so much information has come through? Caro's article says "Smorgon said this", "Smorgon said that".

Clem, The Age has recently been anti-Smorgon, pro-Diggins and the Hun has been pro-Smorgon, anti-Diggins.

The pro-Diggins stuff coming from The Age recently IMO means that Diggins has been the sneaky leaker for the last few months.

If Diggins was the sneaky leaker, surely the HUN would be favourable to Diggins?

All the huffing and puffing around here in recent months and this is the best they can come up with . A Lorraine Diggens Challenge to Smorgon supported by one bloke who is leaving and another who doesn't know wether he is coming or going.

Geez If I was a wealthy supporter I would be chucking buckets of money at them if they were in control

Please Pizza makers go back and come up with a more viable option Smorgon must be pissing himself laughing at the moment

The Hun only recently switched sides. Jim Wilson obviously has recently been getting his info directly from those organising the challenge.

Puff piece on Diggins by Caro recently, Smorgon gunning for Diggins in lots of Hun articles recently.

Points to Diggins being the sneaky leaker IMO.
