now that we're done complaining (i hope) and it is understandable that this may not haev been the right choice but can we focus on what kind of a player ackland is? we know he's short and can pinch hit up forward but what are his strengths, what are the positives he will bring to the cfc next year?

some of you lose you mind to easily

41 games in the last two years, now considering ruckmen and injuries that isnt a horrible amount of games.

he is certainly better option as a ruck than any we currently have.

welcome aboard cain.

He has no real positives to bring to this club next year... nothing the year after.. and nothing the year after that... but we will have to keep him for the three years or pay him out... "But noone will understand what those draft penalties have done to this club "... we are into the third year of a five year sentence".. blah blah blah....

I dont have to... ive watched him play on numerous occasions.

He doesnt put his body in.. he is soft.. and he loves free lunches...

whats to like over what we have???

Its like the Saddington thing all over again..

Saddington isnt a bad guy hes a top bloke... but he isnt what we need.... we dont need any more average players from other clubs cluttering our list because a) were not prepared to draft a ruckman. b)we cant develop a ruckman c) were deseorate.

Im not pissed of at Sugar Cain .. (Terrible nickname in Australia btw).. im pissed off at the decision to bring an average player from another list on good money and a three year contract when we originally didnt want to do that for T Bird!!!...

It just smacks of stupidity!!.. the MC and Denis might think they have a victory with all this.. and that is how far out of touch and how desperate they are and a three year contract is a long term covenant. Its ludicrous..!!!

It smacks of stupidity!!!

Wow, I'm really surprised by this. I don't quite understand why we've made this call so far out from the draft.

So what happens if a genuine "big name" nominates for the pre-season draft between now and December?

Oh Cain also shows some aggression at times on the field - a trait we severely lack.

Our ruck stocks are now better than they were yesterday.

Bahahahahahahahahahaha

The only agression he showed whilst at St Kilda was when he pushed Blake .

Oh well fair exchange. We have your Judas and you now have ours .

But only one of them knows how to play football.  :garthp:

He was the reason why the Saints didnt win any Flags, a very ordinary ruckman at best... just an added waste of garbage to what we already have.....i cant believe the board fell for him.. that tells u they are real desperate until they find something decent in the long run....

what has he produced in 41 games of senior footy? his stats are appalling... i remember i used to read his stats in the paper, every week and it is just not up to standards with AFL Football....

Unless, someone saw something in him that can be changed.....He needs a massive improvment... not beyond him, but very unlikely to happen....

Next year I will know better than to get excited about the off season as it will go like this:

2007 Trade Period - we spend the 4.5 days begging our own uncontracted players to re-sign contracts rather than walk to other clubs
2007 PSD - draft uncontracted ruckman that can't ruck from one of the other clubs

Excellent. Can't wait.

But only one can make it out onto the grouns though garth... not that im a fan of his.. but he will play more games of footy than this point on than Hamill.. who will need to be pushed out of the club but will cling on to every bit of his 1 million dollars left in his contract...

Interesting selection not sure on how effective he will be hopefully there are some positives from him but i guess one thing that people who are bagging him out are not stating is who would they get instead and whats there answer to the ruck

My prioirty in the draft is Gibbs so Burger is not an option as we dont have 2 top 4 draft picks.. So we go for renouf or tippert then it will take 2-3 years to establish so we need some ruck option in the next couple of years. AlsoAisake is another project ruck who may be a option in next 1-2 years

Options in PSD limited though i would have targeted Mcphee.

Also would it have been a good idea to find out Bryan and Maclaren in 2007 giving them first crack

And as a outside ruckman possibly would have chased down Michael Griffiths from East Freemantle.

Anyway if you bag him out at least suggest what you would do instead.

Look at the bright side, this improves our chances of getting a first round priority pick next year.....(Ducks for cover)

Maybe they are going to suprise us all and Give Bryan a real crack in the ruck next year and play Aucland in defense....

Oh well like i said look at the bright side

what do you mean suggest what we would do instead.

Each year we dont draft a ruckman... each year we are desperate and go after Mott ..Knobel .. McLaren and now Acland...

Thats along with French Batson Aisake Deluca and anyone else over 193cms that is out there...

You plan by drafting a ruckman two years ago instead of saying "Ruckmen take too long to mature we will pinch one of someoewhere else"

When you dont plan for your future youre fu(ked!!!...

He's obviously a French replacement; although 4cm shorter.

I'll reserve judgement for the time being.

Very predictable response, and I very nearly referred to such a reply in my original post

I know which one was going to be playing more games for St Kilda in the next three years and it wasn't going to be Ackland.

The money bit in reference to Sammy is getting a tiny bit tiresome, and is absolute rubbish anyway.

Even on one leg he is still better and more value than anyone the Blues have on their list.

I suppose that was why Dennis was trying to get him to come back to the Blues.

I'm told he was offered the captancy last year as well, after Kossi knocked it back.

Anyway, Ackland is a dud and you are welcome to him. There are plenty better than him in the upcoming draft.

Oh i know he is a dud.. but Hamill is a blackhole that cant get out onto the ground even on one leg.. he is a cripple.. and if he was sitting on the steps outside Flinders street station for a rest id probably toss him a buck out of pity..

Still... StKilda get their Karma with their spiritual leader...

1 million big ones to go and 2 more years and you can finally blow him off ... its not like you really want him anyway.... stats men come alot cheaper... he aint really a coach.. so what do you do with him while he sits in the box... all crippled and shit???..

Nothing.. you just have to grin and wear it...

One more million smackaroos.. 2 more long unsuccesful , underperforming years....

KARMA!!!

Or is it a curse???

Well i dont care either way....

He's a talented played Ackland. I don't think he ever going to be our first ruck solution but as a backup ruck/3rd tall forward he's an excellent pickup.

Welcome to the club Cain
