This is the wigglers performance (disposals, tackles, goals, behinds, hitouts all added up) on a game by game basis from his first to his most recent.

Nothing spectacular, but the linear trendline shows a steady improvement over his first 50 games.

Not to mention the shit that stats don't show ie backing into packs, pressuring opponents etc etc

Nice work, Jarusa.

You gotta graph for all the clangers?

I think Wiggins is as ineffective now than at any point of his career.

Christ Jarusa where did you pluck that from??

I think it proves a point..at that rate of improvement he might be a good player when he is 40 8)

Previously you two stated that he hadn't improved at all...

Deano, I said "nice work" to Jarusa about the graph. It's good! :D

But I don't think he's improved, that graph doesn't tell the full story and even Jarusa would acknowledge that.

The graph doesn't measure improvement, just statistics.

And you know all too well Deano, that the two aren't neccesarily related.

sooo, to summarise..

Cos he doesn't get thirty kicks a game, he is crap, yet when stats are placed before you showing clear improvement, that doesn't mean anything.

rrriiiiggghhhttt.

His improvement is anything but clear, Deano.

Look at the graph. Does that wiggly line tell you if Wiggins is up to AFL standard? Does it tell you he can dispose of the footy effectively?

No, it doesn't.

Please don't try and belittle me and my opinions because you don't happen to agree with it.

Can you honestly tell me you think Simon Wiggins has improved?

I have no idea what that vertical bar represents but it has gone from 9-16 in 5 years......I think that pretty much proves my point that he is basically the same player he was 5 years ago.

I notice that despite my request for people to state areas of improvement other than crash and bash no one has come up with anything..interesting

He will finish top 10 in our B&F this year and will win the Brownlow next year.

I think he's improved his ability to read the play and provide drive out of defence. Until midway through last year he was often getting sucked deep into defence, which put a lot of pressure on him whenever he had the ball, and also meant his opponent was dangerously close to goal. These days Wiggins is flying off half-back.

He was a forward as a junior right?

His first season was 2001 (a relatively strong/over achieving Carlton side) and he played 6 games...6 games more than Waite did in 2002 (his first season and one of our worst ever). Having only six games under his belt Wiggins was then thrust into defence in a team getting beaten week in, week out in 2002 playing 18 or 19 games. No opportunity to further develop in the seconds...straight into the action for the former forward.

He has some serious pace for a big body.

His pressure marking really has improved 500%. As mentioned somewhere else, it's like he's taken a leaf out of Teague's book in that regard.

Here's some areas of improvement (I'm sure others can come up with more):

1) Played probably his best game for the club against Port recently. A PB (personal best) means improvement in anyone's language.

2) His marking has improved compared to earlier in his career, evidenced by his suicidal run-back-with-the-flight marks. No doubt he's learnt from playing alongside Teaguey. He's learning... and putting it into practice..and therefore improving.

3) Denis has given him more responsibility in midfield tagging roles over the past couple of years and he has done well in some of those jobs.

Where have I belittled you? You've made a statement, been picked up on it and all you've had to say in your defence is "is too".

We'll see come next year, when Wiggins is still an integral part of this squad.

Elroy - don't go acting all hurt because people go jumping down your throat.

By starting a thread off saying Wiggins is a hack who should never play for Carlton you seemed quite happy to kick it off as a combative thread to see how many people would take the bait.

The majority of posts arguing with your point have been related to Wiggins and his abilities, but surely you can understand people getting a little peeved at you starting out calling him a hack?
