Remember most experts believe second round picks this year are equal to first round picks from previous years.

In fact we should say to Hawthorn we wont deal with them unless they better everyone elses offer which must be a first round pick at least otherwise pre-season draft - why not say to Melbourne if you give us first round pick and ferguson/wheatley or a late pick you have got him or say to the dogs first round pick and faulkner/birss or alate pick you have him -tell richmond that first pick and something else may snare him even better tell Brisbane
These over the top deals are what we should be trying to do and you never know someone may get stupid -North did over Hay -geelong did over OTTENS

Its official. We are a Joke!

The bloke has been holding up a KPP with a non-KPP body. You think we've been flogged in 2205/2006? So woopee do, we get Pick 6 (in our wildest dreams I might add). Which even if it was a KPP and will take 3 years if one to develop. We just gave the hawks a premiership player, mark my words.

And in the mean time we throw in another 3rd ranked defender against a Hall or Tredrea.

My club is a disgrace.

He was no good against those players anyway Cav.

Just got to turn average into extraordinary in the deal and I'm stoked.

The other big question is:

where's Sybad? Doesn't look like he's been on-line today...

C'mon Synners, why did TBird decide to leave? Is it because of the coach? Was it because of the money? Is it because he has mates at Hawthorn? Or did we not make much of an effort to keep him?

Look on the bright side, it means Setanta will get a full season in the firsts, Flint will be promoted and we'll be a step closer to picks 1 and 2 in the 2007 draft ;)

I think a more relevent question here is can this thread get more posts on it than the 'Bryce Gibbs' thread.

I'm betting it will slow down in the 50's - then rise again once merged with the 'Dogs target Thornton' thread next week.

Bryce Gibbs - 3/1

Thornton thread - 7/1

great odds at 7's and I'd take those early before they come right in on the back of the afformentioned merged thread.

The article states that Carlton have offered Thornton what the hawks offered and money has nothing to do with it. That means if a suitable trade does not come up we can pick him up with the first pick in the psd.
This means we hold the upper hand. Surely Thornton + 19 can net us pick 6. If it doesn’t then at the end of trade week we tell Bett we are going to pick him up in the pre season draft (we have already matched his asking price). He then signs with us before the PSD knowing he is coming anyway. If he brings a bad attitude then play him in the rezziez.

I think we have done quite well really. The club and the board is showing some balls.

This deal is going according to plan.

Let's play the Dawks tactics - two 1st round picks, and let's work from there. Thornton has been a superior defender for a poor side - he has plenty of value, otherwise, @#$%&! off dawks if your not willing to come to the party. This is the same club that want a first round pick for a 33 year old, yet for a player with 8 to 10 years in him aren't willing to part with their first rounder - what a joke of a club are the dawks.

Let the bidding start - don't underestimate the value of Thornton.

The Dawks have that flower Pelchen dealing with list management - the guy that let Stevens go from Port for nothing - funny that, Port moved him on - wonder if it was for that reason?

Shit, what have I done.

I was on another post when I received a PM...I had this inkling that I started something stupid.

NO there is nothing cryptic...........there's no news on the PP...

I'm not the cryptic type....spider is.

The point is we lose Thornton, doesn't mean that the AFL is going to continue to screw Carlton by not allowing us to replace him ON THE FIELD.

ie we will still be allowed to field 18 players, just like all the other teams.

Thornton goes, another steps up; that's life:

Setanta (who would have thought he would be our #1 backman)
Bower (this is the year you make a name for yourself son)
Waite (can you stand up...keep your feet... as a CHB?)

.......Hartlett (take your chance as Thornton did)

.......Flint (might be elevated)

.......Pick #1 Hansen? (better than Thornton)

......Pick #6 (better than Thronton?)

......Saddington? (could he?)

.....McGregor? (might we?)

I think Thornton is Palestinian.

There. Should crank it up to 100 pages by tonight.

More than that.

I can't believe how people are writing down his value suddenly.

How can you be devastated that he's going and in the same post suggest we're unlikely to receive a first round pick for him?

You can't have it both ways but there are many in here who are.

I think Thornton is an excellent second or third defender in a good side. That's worth something decent.

Yes this is meant to be a superdraft but don't underestimate the value of a known quantity.

We should be asking for a top 10 pick and then some. Pick 6 would be a minimum.

Hawthorn are currently asking Sydney for their first and second round pick for a bloke who might have two years of football left in him and is a bit of a flower. This is a bloke whose character Sydney rate so highly they had to check with their senior players that it'd be okay to pick him up.

Pick 6 would be the least I'd accept but I'd also consider say 12 and 24. If the Hawks want him they can deal with the Dees and trade someone for pick 12. Same goes for any other club.

Talk it up fellas...talk it up.

Swans think they can win a flag with Everitt thats why he is worth a bit more to them and they are prepared to pay above market value....even for a flower...
Thornton must have been approached months ago....I think Chris Pelchen is a good operator and has been working behind the scenes luring Thornton....we should be doing the same.......

I still think its a money thing. His manager is trying to avoid making Thornton look greedy.

Club is bigger than the player. I say we sit on our hands till the trade period finishes, offer him whatever, and if he doesn't accept then we pick him up in the PSD.

This way players will know not to f@#$% with us in the future. Let Carlton be Alcatraz and the players be inmates. Put our foot down now before they all go Shawshank on us and screw us over.

JuzzCarlton, passers by are unbelievably sickened by this image of gratuitous behaviour. What product are they selling again? Put me down for five.

I would think that Thornton's manager has been talking to a few clubs, and has looked at the likely scenarios, and presented Thornton with his summation:

"Hawks will go hard at the trade and probably will offer rnd 2 pick plus player (if not accepted)
Hawks offer Carlton pick 6 (if not)
Hawks offer Carlton pick 6 and pick round 2/3 or player (if not)
If a deal can't be struck, Carlton will not waste their PSD on you
Essendon* have agreed to match the Hawks offer and you go there via PSD.

There are other teams that will want to trade....but maybe not pick in round 1. I'll look out for more offers......mate, don't worry about Carlton, leave it to me."

Eade has stated that 1st round (pick 12) for the doggies is a no go!!

Blue Skies, Anger, Blue Skies, Anger, Blue Skies, Anger, Pick 6, Blue Skies.

Pick 1 Lueneberger Pick 6 Selwood or Sellars.

Quite possibly

But wasn't there some rule from the AFL that you couldn't approach players with offers pre trade week? Anyone know?

Pick 6.

He's not worth pick 6, but Hay wasn't worth a pinch of shit and the Hawks got two picks for him.
