If his manager has told the press and Carlton that he wants a fresh start, then that's what he wants.

Things can change...we may just retain him. But why would you retain him if his heart isn't in it?

I'm upset, but that will soon be overtaken by anger, and then I'll feel better.

I like all the suggestions posters. Keep up the good work, and I hope the cards fall our way.

I want Leuenberger....but I think he'll be gone before pick 6.

Backline with no Thornton, means a loss of experience....but the good news on the grapevine is that Demetriou and Evans have decided that the AFL will announce that they will allow us to fill that position with another player.

You'd seen the best of Vossy Gez, don't worry about it.

Everyone on this site, and every other carlton site, must maintain that he is worth a pick 6.

It's our responsibility to flood the market with his worth.

I heard that the "news" comes from his manager. Good chance this is just to put pressure on tne club. So let's see what happens. And if he leaves, he is worth pick 6

Exactly, Thornton could be anything, his upside is enormous, single-handedly held our backline together under a mountain of pressure for years. Will go up a few notches as a player with a better midfield to protect him. Would look great in yellow and brown with his complexion. His eyes are a normal distance apart.

That sort of crap.

More than that.

I can't believe how people are writing down his value suddenly.

How can you be devastated that he's going and in the same post suggest we're unlikely to receive a first round pick for him?

You can't have it both ways but there are many in here who are.

I think Thornton is an excellent second or third defender in a good side. That's worth something decent.

Yes this is meant to be a superdraft but don't underestimate the value of a known quantity.

We should be asking for a top 10 pick and then some. Pick 6 would be a minimum.

Hawthorn are currently asking Sydney for their first and second round pick for a bloke who might have two years of football left in him and is a bit of a flower. This is a bloke whose character Sydney rate so highly they had to check with their senior players that it'd be okay to pick him up.

Pick 6 would be the least I'd accept but I'd also consider say 12 and 24. If the Hawks want him they can deal with the Dees and trade someone for pick 12. Same goes for any other club.

Talk it up fellas...talk it up.

Always reminded me of vossy.

Remember the day he held, Judd, Hall and Gehrig? He was very very handy.

C'mon Dean give me pick 3.

He is a great player and must be worth Pick 6

But in realistic terms my money is on

Swans pick 15 to Hawks
Everitt to Swans

pick 15 to Carlton

Thorton to Hawks

Denis is drafting Mal Michael to get him to 300 games.

Or it's Zantuck.

Tell all Bondi,

have the Spew and Evans decided they need to prop up Smorgon under the threat of Fraser Brown taking over otherwise? Plenty of :-D if true!

Whilst we are all blinded by the talent at the top end of this draft (and why wouldn't we be), the strength of this draft is in the depth. I would seriously consider two second rounders (both under pick 30) for Thornton. This allows Hawthorn to save face with their supporters, whilst we end up with 6 picks in the first 35 of what is possibly the strongest draft ever. Remember most experts believe second round picks this year are equal to first round picks from previous years.
