PJ, if he wants to sqquib it from the blues - the money, the board nor the Kouta deal makes no difference.

Look he overestimates his worth, let's hope other clubs do, and we trade up for the turncoat.

he can then scratch his run up out at Aurora Stadium or Carrara. Or even with the Ants in Preston.

If everything's bright and rosy like yesterdays Hun told me why is our best young defender bailing?

Sick and tired of this continuing con-job. The fish rots from the head.

That just means there's two opportunties to make a difference Budzy.

Get early picks for Thornton and get a new board whenever the chance arises.

But it's not so much that, WBY.
Who do we have to cover full back next year?
Does this mean Livo stays on?
Does Adam Hartlett, a 2 game player, have to step up?
Do we run with Setanta?
Do we do the unthinkable and put Lance back there?

See what I'm getting at?

Without Livo we have no option for Full back.
Just a few makeshifts and a few guys who aren't ready.

My last statement on this matter because I'm shattered to be truthful but,
it won't make it sunny again just not as cloudy JK. Pick6 and fingers crossed that he's worth it/comes good. Another Livingston/Hamill job would do wonders to our self-esteem right now.

Do you honestly think we'll get anything decent out of this?
They'll throw up Nick Ries or Clinton Young and their second rounder and that's as far as they'll go.
There is no way they'll trade Pick 6.

Then there is no way we will trade Thornton to them for that. We could go the Essendon* and say Sporn for Pick 18 and a player (I'm sure we could find one we rate), and in exchange we would not trade Thornton and let him go into the PSD. That's still a steal for Essendon*, but it's better value than 24 plus a player from Hawthorn.

There was always something about Thornton that i didn't like... Now i know what it is.... The guy is "all about himself".

The harsh reality however is this he is an undersized KPP. And really if we are building a team / defensive unit TBird is not the player you'd build around. He would be part of a defensive unit.

Let him go to Hawthorn but watch his career stagnate...

Pick 6 ideal but, i can't see it happening. The Dawks will need to be quite active again come trade week to get us some suitable draft picks.

Time will tell..

Looking forward to him lining up on Fev

Indeed, maybe now Fev will only kick 6 when we play the Hawks...

This is disappointing... As frustrating as he can be, I'm sorry to see him go. But if the Hawks want him, they'll have to pay through the nose for him.

I would accept pick #6 for him, or pick possibly pick #24 (?) and one of: Bateman or Brown. Maybe get Sydney involved and snare a Buchanan or a Malceski... Then again... Brown and Bateman are kinda shit...

If we lose our no. 1 defender we have to replace him. Hopefully the replacement comes from one of Hartlett or O'Hailpin (add Waite to the mix?)... With the run of Bower added to the back 6.

Which means that losing Thornton gives us a chance to address our other deficiencies - Midfield and Ruck.

Ideally you'd like to lose him for a good pick and a player...

So... Thornton for #24 and Robert Campbell?

Nah... Just go get #6 (Leuenberger or Selwood)!

you have to be kidding about bateman, he would be a walk up start for carlton, will be a great player.

You got it PJ.......and if the hawks deal doesnt work out then Essendon* might swoop in the PSD...

Yes but dont the Hawks have to make it work? If they've been in his ear all year (or even in the last month), are prepared to pay those $, and still need what they thinkis a KPP, they're here to deal...

Exactly.
Where stuffed either way.
I have no faith in Denis getting a good deal for us out of this.

Good average player, can't expect anything more than a good average player in return or 2nd round+ pick.

at one stage i had him tagged as a future captain ..

but thorntons form for most of the season was average at best ..

suprise suprise it improved as the contract renewal time drew nearer ..

yes i'd like him to stay .. but he always seemed to want to chip wide or backwards and not attack .. so if he goes .. so be it .. he can be replaced

he'll just be another danny jacobs at the hawks

** sorry .. meant to say that he was going to be our next "bruce doull" and only a first round pick would be worth losing him from the club :)

.. go blues ..

Sellers market, though, I reckon. If they don't get him off us in a swap, he won't play for them. He wouldn't last until pick 6 in the PSD.

Spot on Molsey,

the Hawks are very keen, or else he wouldn't be walking. Now they have to make it work. And we have to let them know that others might be keen too. There is no reason that we shouldn't be able to organise some sort of bidding war here.

I'm telling you - first round pick, or it is all off!
