Unless we get very good or excellent trade why wouldnt we say we are categorically to everyone that we are going to re-draft him in PSD as he is the best player in the draft and on this basis everyone else may not keep the funds to satisfy his demands in the PSD and if it comes to that day and he is the best player we take him back but if he isnt we take someone else and if the other clubs cant satisfy his price he swings in the breeze and waits for the next year to play AFL - good precedent to set and would make him and his management PACK THEIR DACKS 8)

I think Doc Sherrin may be right....an ontrade from the Swans for Everitt.....I dont see Hawthorn trading pick 6....be interesting to see what Essendon* do with Solomon going west to either WC or more likely Freo...Thornton would be a nice replacement. Wonder if Essendon* would think about Bret for the PSD?....they will be cashed up...
Also if the bombers want somone else then Thornton can walk in the PSD.....we get nothing..I dont see Hawthorn as under real pressure to deal with us at all unless Essendon* get interested.

We are in control, or we should be in control of this. T-Bird goes where we say at what cost we want, not where he wants at his price or the clubs who wants him cost.

Doesn't like it then he can put the price on his head and take his chances of ending up somewhere else like North, Bombers and Brisbane who are all on the decline

Top 10 pick or no deal. Pagan has categorically stated that we are not trading for players so it is pick(s) in return.

We've got little chance of getting pick 6 from the Hawks, but that's what we should stand firm on.

Sorry Doctor, that sounds nice but..

I want pick 6.

And you can bet your house that the Club does too.

We're in a position of strength here as I see it. Hawthorn is his preferred club, but don't discount other clubs sniffing around.

I can see Melbourne, Bulldogs and the Lions interested in Thornton.

What we do is get a bidding war happening. We drive his value up and -- we might have to tip the trade in their favour slightly -- we obtain no.6 from the Hawks.

If not we play hardball and threaten to redraft him via the PSD. Not a preferred option of course, but an option nontheless.

As Malouf said -- and well done on getting a reply to the faithfull quick smart -- the Carlton Football Club has to do what is best for the Carlton Football Club. That means that Thornton mightn't necessarily find his way to the Hawks.

As said before -- I wonder what this means for Livingston?? Hopefully it doesn't change his circumstances one iota -- I predict that he is still going to be delisted if a trade can't be found.

We're in a position of power in with this trade, and I think that the result could be pretty beneficial to the CFC.

Especially if we obtain Polak via the PSD or pick 51. :-D

We could piggy back in on this (and get someone like Malceski, 22 or Buchanan, 24) or just let Hawks give us pick 15 and 24 for Thornton and 51.

That'd give us 1,15,17,19,24,35.

6 picks in the first 35...would be very nice.

I know it could be media talk, but Roos has pretty clearly stated they won't be trading #15.

Funny how I questioned his value as a KPP and most here thought I was mad. He is a thrid best player at best in a good side it just happened he was playing in a shit side.

People here hate Aaron Hamil with a passion becuase he left. Well at least he gave 100% each week and acted like a leader when he played for us not a spoilt little brat who repeatedly threw tantrums on the field and now eveidently off the field as well.

Give me Hamil any day. Let the real Judas go to where he want and lets all sit back and laugh at him when hes washed up in a few years becuase his new team comes to the realisation that he has hoodwinked everyone.

He get out bodied by bigger opponents easily, he misreads the play and get caught behind by faster smarter opponents and his disposal is poor. He was a good player in a shit team he will be an average at best in a good side.

Setanta will be a far better player and probably already is given Barry Hall would have torn Bret a new arsehole.

So you dont want to play for a losing side Bret "Buckley" sides that win premerships need people of integrity not those with overinflated opinions of themselves.

So from all at Carlton Goodbye, Get [REDACTED] and @#$%&! Off.

The question is how bad do they want him?
I say he is a missing link and pretty bad by the sounds of it, so if they miss out on a Thorpe/Sellar this year but get Thornton, they say that's a win and are ready to play finals in 2007.
Pick 6 should be ours for the taking and nothing less. That's how I see it and I am still disappointed because he is a KP defender who will go 22 rounds whereas we have to wait 3 years for the next one to develop. Again.

Somehow they'll get a second rounder for Everitt, possibly with a player. They will then trade 24 and the 2nd rounder for Thornton.

Seems like some are still playing the man because they have nothing to offer, if Mrs C would now be kind enough to let me play, I will retiliate ... Is that OK Mrs C?

Well, they would be mad to trade 15 IMO -- look at the price Carlton and now Brisbane are paying for trying to maintain that top of the ladder success.

I guess whatever transpires between these two clubs might come into play with the Thornton trade. Buchanan? Hopefully the Everitt trade is done and dusted quickly -- they must have been musing about it for weeks -- and then we have enough time to manufacture a legit and beneficial Thornton trade.

I'd hate to interupt your countless negative and innane posts about our club ...

Sorry Showbag but you where second in line with such a comment directed at me and today is not the day that I would be using my sense of humour. If your remark was injest, which sounds like it was, I apologise.

That deal can't and won't be done. Hawthorn won't give that up for Thornton. Lets move to the team we know need a quality defender - the BULLDOGS.

I'll take their pick 11 - (and for Thornton I reckon that's fair)...

Richmond have nothing we want (and won't part with pick 8)

If a trade happens I pary it happens early ( and in our favour) otherwise we spend all week trying to engineer something for thornton and miss out elsewhere.

I'd make it clear early - as Frank and others have - pre-10 pick or he goes into the PSD and comes home with his yellow tail between his legs. That sets the scene for years to come.

p.s if this guy is so passionate about losing and mistakes (apropos his on-field antics) why does his passion not stretch to doing something about it and sticking with the club that gave him the opportunity off the rookie list and not running to another club.

He's not passionate, he's ego's just got too big and his sense of worth inflated.
