But if it's not about money and he just doesn't want to be at the club there isn't a lot of point redrafting him in the PSD.

Surry I dont feel like crying champ I just feel out and out sick.

I am in so much pain following this club

When when will it end ????

I wouldn't burn down anything yet. You have to wait to see what happens this time next week. All along it looked like Carlton were deliberately undervaluing Thornton. If they did this with a trade in mind then great lets see what we get. If we get nothing then yes let the pain consume us all as we wither & die in a mess of violent gut wrenching proportions.

Look at our list. Thornton has value now, real value. If we can extract that then it would be good for us. That's the challenge.

IF the reports are correct and he's going on a $300k+ salary he's a silly bugger - he'll be under so much pressure to perform, and to be honest, I don't think he's not up to it.

At $320 you'd expect him to be your #1 defender and he's not.

If he walks to the draft for nothing he's an arsehole

But lets not jump to conclusions

Depends what he has said. If he said "please do everything in your power to trade me to Hawthorn, but if a suitable trade can't be arranged, then I'm happy to go anywhere to make a fresh start", then I'm sure a fair trade will be reached with someone.

But if he's said "Screw you guys, trade me to Hawthorn and I won't go anywhere else" then we'll be lucky to get pick 24 and Nick Ries. Given those circumstances, if our salary cap restraints allow it, I'd rather inconveinience Thornton for 12 months by re-drafting him than allow the Hawks to rape us like that.

How about we go to Port and say ... pick 5 champs and you can have Russell and Thornton, now that would make me feel sooooo gooood ... not because we lost 2 youngsters but because I'm a pr**k with a heart of gold.

What a load of shit.

Bret is one of the nicest blokes down at the club and to suggest he is arrogant is farcical. Perhaps you should ask yourself why a player who has lost the passion is looking for a trade instead of retiring. :?
Next time Denis rings you, ask why a 22 year old kid and a 19 year old pick 9 have had enough and want out.

Stop pissing down our backs.

anyone can put on a happy face....... i pretty sure who i have spoken to is alot more closer to the action than you

and its obvious on the field aswell....... quick to blame those around him

it has nothing to do with money i tell you now!!!!!!

he been talking to the hawks all year

He supported Ess growing up too.

I think GWS posted the PSD thing as a possible scenario a couple of weeks ago. Would absolutely spew if they got him for nothing!!

If he does go, then it would be nice to take a look at Tim Notting, who has left Brisbane in the PSD.

Have you met the kid?
Do you even know him?

You come on here absolutely slandering the kids character and you've probably never even spoken to him.

I've met Bret several times and he is one of the most approachable, friendly and humble players at Carlton.
Your attack on him was pathetic, agenda riddled and ill informed.

There's got to be bidders other than Hawthorn?

Brisbane lost a full-back yesterday. North don't have much of a spine. Tigers need defenders. And how about the Doggies? Wouldn't Thornton go a treat there?

We should be making every effort to get a first rounder for him. Obviously the higher the better, but if the Hawks won't offer pick 6, and Richmond will offer pick 9 or whatever they have, then we just say to Hawthorn that they'd better put 6 on the table or else they'll miss out.

Are there whispers that anyone else may be interested? I refuse to believe that the Hawks are the only ones.

Can we try and keep this discussion on football matters people?

Given that he has quit the club, the issue for all of us now is what can we reasonably expect to get for him?

This is why I am pretty happy with the situation.

I reckon we are a big chance of getting a good first round pick for him. 4 or 5 picks in the top 20 this year would be gold!!

Also gives a couple of other guys currently on our list a chance to take Thornton's spot and maybe do a better job.
