how about Everitt and a low pick, we then trade Everitt to Sydney for a couple of players - that way we get 3 players for 1?

I'm not shattered at losing him unless we get completely dudded. Pick 6 or two top 20 picks is my asking price.
I don't want any of their hack players either.

What a load of shit.

Bret is one of the nicest blokes down at the club and to suggest he is arrogant is farcical. Perhaps you should ask yourself why a player who has lost the passion is looking for a trade instead of retiring. :?
Next time Denis rings you, ask why a 22 year old kid and a 19 year old pick 9 have had enough and want out.

Stop pissing down our backs.

A key defender is of extreme importance to the Hawks. It's their weak link and if they get one, they can play ROughead permanently forward and really set themselves up to play finals in 2007. I think if they can replace a Dawson with Thornton for 2007 they are a chance, as is their running power and midfield skill.

Its unlikely that they'll give 6 but can they wait for Dawson? Will they have a pick to get Hansen? Maybe we'll need to sweeten it for something but it all depends on how likely their admin feel of advancing up the ladder as distinct from still rebuilding.

Me either and not because he isn't a good player. I don't want anyone at the club who doesn't want to be there. If Thornton would rather go somewhere else then let him.

He'll be in demand enough that clubs will bid against each other to ensure we receive a fair price for him. Walking to the PSD is our major concern, but even that is a concern for Hawthorn and Thornton as Essendon* or the Kangaroos would likely meet his price and select him.

If we have room in the cap, then strangely enough I wouldn't be too unhappy with that scenario. Sure we would have to trade him 12 months later, but at least it would send a statement that we don't take shit at the trade table.

And yes, I would rather lose him for nothing than take pick 22 and some Hawthorn delistee. I'm sure I won't be the only one who feels that way.

If he has quite the club...has he said he specifcally and only wants to go to Hawthorn? Or does he just want to be traded elsewhere?

My guess is there would be a number of clubs interested in him. I don't want to lose him, but if he has decided to go, and there are a few clubs interested in him, then a bidding war may work in our favour.

His constant on-field mini tantrums (throwing his head back in disgust, gobbing-off at & spraying teammates) has suggested this all along.

An elevated rookie who has turned into a B grade player - if we can get into the top 15 of the super draft we've done very well. If the Hawks want to pay 300K per annum then they're welcome ro him.

Lets push hard for 6 (or as Jake says 7 :? )

Hawthorn will have to pay over the odds for him.

My dad worls with Bret's mum. I've asked him to find out why he wishes to move on. Didnt want to get him to ask until it was proved that he was in fact leaving. He can find out on Monday.

She's a very approachable person and will hopefully provide an honest answer.

Now it's time for the Club to play hardball with whoever wants him. What's good for Hawhorn (playing hardball with trades of recent years gone by), then it should be good for us too.

Bring it on.

How will we redraft him in the PSD if he has nominated a price we are not prepared to pay and I dont see Hawthorn parting for pick 6 either.....
If Thornton has quit and leaves its a disgrace and another nail in this boards coffin....he deserves 300K a year and I cant believe we have allowed this to occur if it happens....whats next..Mac Murphy offered a two year deal for 200K ? Yet Kouta gets 300K+ for a golden handshake year.....

He wants too much. Most good players will get offered more than they are worth from other clubs to entice them over. Most stay to play with there mates , for the club that gave them a shot and to give back to all the fans who have supported him through thick and thin.

If he wants to leave and not be a part of whats coming then he should just go and stop telling us all about it.

Have fun stamping your foot and yelling a Zak Dawson everytime your oponent takes a mark.

As I said, if we have room. The suggestion is it was never about the money, he just does not want to be with the club anymore. The non-Pagan sacking is coming home to roost me thinks.

I don't necesserially think its money-related. If he was loyal enough to Carlton he would stay for lower bucks. I believe that he has lost the passion to play for Carlton, sick of the losing environment etc, possibly the coach.

He feels he would fare better at another club. If that's how he wishes then we must be civil and accommodate it. We will be compensated via the club that receives him.

All this talk of hardball and standoffs is nonsense. Bret hasnt come angrily into the media slagging Carlton off. He just wishes to move on to another club. Thus Carlton's job here is to simply accept offers from other clubs, and pick the best one to benefit CFC.
