So a perfect day sun out a fast surface and a little wind. So we have on the park almost every player who is likely to be delisted. And who is watching on the sidelines. The future of the club. Bower,Edwards,A O'Hailpin,Raso,Jackson,Smith. What a great opportunity for these kids to play finals footy. And what an opportunity missed. The fact it was a fast track all the more reason to play these young fast running players.

It was funny that Mitchell mentioned this in his quarter time address. What a @#$%&! up.The guys out there today wont or shouldnt be there in 2007.Those players have been mentioned ad nauseam so there is no need to go there again suffice to say that in perfect conditions when these guys cant get a touch in a lower standard of footy its over.

A very ordinary day at the footy.Time to get the pads and balls and bats out and get ready for the poms.

i was sitting in front of some of the youngsters you mentioned before during the semi final and it was a complete joke that they werent out there playing. i can tell you for fact they were very pissed off about it and a couple of times when longmuir got the ball they were even swearing and commenting on how selfish he is. stupid decision by the bullants mc.

on the positive, next year a lot of those players will be delisted and when the 12/10 rule comes into action, we'll have to pick 12 young guys with a future rather than 12 duds who are playing for their careers.

The thing is half the players were not playing for their careers.Thatis why they played .A consolation prize for getting the arse. The only highlight was whe two grabs Deluca failed to take an easy mark and Wiggins did a great acting role mimicking Deluca's failed opportunity to the amusement of all.Obviously the players concer with all of us on Archie's abilities in the marking caper.

An interesting side to this was the presence of one Justin Davies. Will he be there next year or is here for McGrath's bucs party.

But I though Mitch was the messiah who had all the answers. 1 week is a long time in football I guess.

Unfortunately the guys that we know aren't good enough for AFL didn't turn up today in the VFL. No intensity. Not something we can afford to carry in the club.

17 win or whatever it was Cazz, I reckon Mitch can still be proud of his efforts.
Paul Roos, Denis Pagan and Mitchell combined wouldnt have got the Bullants over the line yesterday IMO.
Sandy were absolutely awesome.

I doubt Mitch will be at Carlton next year so I'd prefer to thank him and wish him good luck with whatever he does.

Thought that the players that Mitchell had a hand in developing have done pretty well and the ones Denis brought to the club [REDACTED] us up...

anyway... pretty good year by the Ants.Just a disappointing end because we played the Teagues Chambers and Langmuires of this world..

we probably lost because Saddo couldnt get out there too...

  I agree 110% BV.

My sarcasm was directed at those who quickly jump off the Mitchell bandwagon now he has had a few defeats in finals. Supporters are so fickle it never ceases to amaze.

I think Mitchell is a very good coach who has done a mighty job with the kids. I loved the way he keeps it simple and gives them all simple direction. When a player doesn't follow instruction he looks them in the eye and says. 'Why didn't you do as I asked?' The player then has to supply a suitable answer or get told some home truths. Very simple but very effective. I'm not sure where Mitch will be in 2007 but I'm sure he will do very well.

Regards Cazzesman

If anyone needed any more evidence that Synbad is biased, well here it is.

The Bullants lost. Pagan did not select or coach the team. You've been screaming to play the kids all year, and right when Mitchell had the opportunity to show some faith in them he "wasn't prepared to risk them".

FFS, don't try to blame this on Pagan.

Thought Mitchell did a good a job and was very candid about the game when interviewed..was impressed by his grip on reality and honest approach...Sandy are a decent team full of ex VFL players as well as Melbourne players and I think the result was as expected if you matched the teams up...showed the level some of our senior listed players are at and exposed how weak our list is....

And by the way, how's Dean Rice? Have you gotten over your attack on the club for not informing us of his illness?

Synbad, you are well on your way to becoming a Big Footy type poster. Please, don't let that happen, 'cause as much as I disagree with you, some of your posts are relevant.

What a condescending post. :?

I highly doubt that most of the 'kids' at bigfooty would have Synbad's sense of irony.

Perhaps if we had a few extra kids that were a bit more developed then Mitch would not have had to rely on so many 'soon to be rejects'.

How much does a Carlton reserves team cost. To me playing all the kids in a proper grade not reserves VFL is very important for the development of the club.

Worth every cent in my opinion.

Agreed.
A very high priority for a new board with cash to spend I suggest.

Is the issue really one of a VFL stand-alone team? Even the richest Clubs in the AFL have an alignment... Collingwood / Essendon* and St Kilda seem to do OK.

The issue appears to me to not be related to a stand alone team in this respect but our non-selection of the kids and the selection of those seemingly in the last week(s) of their AFL career. Why? What possible reasoning is there? Add to tradeability - hardly... Increase the chance of winning the game - appears so but appears it has backfired.

Throughout the game I was thinking about how much more I enjoyed both the Army Reserves Cup and tht VFA as 2 separate competitions.

I grew up barracking for Sandringham as a kid way back in the 70's when I remembered the Zebras playing aginst Williamstown and Oakleigh in 2 consecutive years playing the last round of the season to avoid relegation the the 2nd Division....wow spiteful games of passion. 10,000 locals would be at the game; it was a passionate spectacle. Then a few years later finally I got to see my beloved Zebra win its first flag for 30 years. The great thing back then was that they were all Sandy players not Melbourne players.

Back then there was the Army Reserves (or carlton reserves) and I would be watching all Carlton players in the Carlton jumper. I knew who I was barracking for.

Yesterday I was barracking for the Carlton players in red jumpers (Ray Shaw's old team; the enemy), but couldn't bring myself to barrack for the Ants or the Zebra. There were two teams out there made up of 2 teams each. Something missing for me.

It gave me the shits to tell the truth, and it didn't hurt watching the Ants get beaten, and it didn't excite me watching the Zebra win and have another shot at another flag.

I hate the current VFL format. I want to see a reserves team where at least they wear the Carlton jumper and I get to see all listed players playing. What a crock of shit having our future, who have to make a name for themselves in this competition, sitting on the sidelines, whilst second rate players, a bunch of journeymen, take their positions.

What a crock. It doesn't work for anyone.

The VFL is a substandard competition. Deano and I have both written about how there seems to be an ever-widening gap between the AFL and VFL, and that the VFL isn't an adequate substitute for a reserves comp.

KK, you're on the money.

The VFL is crap. A bits and pieces competition.

We have a plethora of players who can play well in the VFL but can't cut it as AFL players, regardless of the fact thay have completed the preseason, practise games, NAB cup, training as those good enough to retain their position in the seniors.
