And now the wheels of fate have turned again at Carlton. Pagan appears to have just survived a three-day circus that almost — but not quite — made Elliott's regime seem credible.

According to Caro, Pagan enlisted SOS to outmanoevre the Board politically.

She also says Bradley was yet to be enlisted as a starter with the Brown group.

While we may not like what we read, it's a great article, and looks to be fairly on the money.

( and note the date on the article should really be 7 Sep, not 6 Sep, as it was written after the 2nd Board meeting of Wed 6th, for Thursday's paper.)

Interesting comments about Fitzpatrick's presence

Brown, a multimillionaire, is said to have been prepared to help raise the difference between Pagan's pay-out and Mitchell's potential salary, with the help of other former players and businessmen. The board, however, began to get cold feet, notably including Kernahan.

So the past greats were just paying Mitchell's contract?

And Pagan's payout was coming from the money the AFL gave us to tide us over?

Well done.

I'm relieved that we didn't cave to the demands of Mitchell being appointed without going through the process of interviewing other potential coaches.

Will these Carlton people put their money where their mouth is if McKenna or Hudson are headhunted because we haven't improved :?:

For whatever reason, her articles always irk me. It seems that some people, like Caro, won't be happy until the place is shut down. The mess we are in can be attributed to a number of factors (including the draconian penalties she campaigned for in her articles over 2002). I am frustrated like everyone, but is it so hard to imagine that the Club would be looking at ways to get out of this mess including a change of direction at the coaching position. She says:

Quote:
Even those Kangaroos who still haven't forgiven him for leaving must be wondering what the coach has done to deserve this treatment

Well how about 21 wins out of 88 games ... It's hard for any organization to take that kind of win-loss ratio. I'm also disappointed that SOS is again being used like a political football -- not unlike "Hit the road Jack" campaign. What's the bet he walks away after a year.

Nah SOS wont go and maybe the other assistants will see Pagans coaching position as very fragile ..

He would have to really turn the listing ship around to keep his spot for 2008

Also the fact that he has gotten Silvani to keep alive ... I am sure Silvani will be a major support for Pagan as he cannot afford to get SOS out of Favour... means he maybe a lot more accountable than previously..

Anyway whens the next AGM i am sure there will be another ticket in the waiting and would be sure that it would be with Gleeson .. Brown and a few others in the background after this debacle

What do you mean well done???

They made a proposal the board turned it into a circus and in the end turned it into a farce ...

Geez you have a weird slant to life and what is well done...

agree fjanyc.. Caro is getting some revenge on some Carlton people because of the way she was treated .. she doesnt care what happens to us.. and she certainly isnt interested in being unbiased!!!... it was a case of smashing heads together for her own personal gratification.

But thats what happens when the club calls her a liar!!!

She might be a bush pig but she doesnt like being called a liar!

It was sarcasm.

It's pathetic to use money that was meant to keep us afloat to sack a coach and then appoint another just because he's cheap. Caro and Niall are the best journos and it's better than any of the tripe you find in the Hun.

The following article is also in the Herald-Sun:

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,20367220-11088,00.html

It does seem like Silvagni has made a powerplay. May be I was naive in thinking that SOS was the one being manipulated.

Quote:
Silvagni last night told the Carlton board he was willing to join the club as an assistant if they could guarantee him the senior coaching role in two years. The Herald Sun believes Silvagni also said he wanted Brisbane Lions football manager Graeme Allan involved immediately if he's to rejoin the Blues.

Caro might be a good reporter but in this case she is a psychotic bitch!
She is not objective on this story and it stems to Fraser Brown.. the Collo situation and the club calling her a liar!

Did you hear her talk the other night about us on 3aw?

Oh and thank the board for standing its ground?
It bent over for SOS and his non coaching expertise and coaching ambitions.Kept Deis (but they dont trust Denis thats why they have laid all these strings on his coaching.. and too gutless to pay him out after they signed him up for 3 years)

In te meantime it knocked back hundreds of thousands of dollars and an opportunity to bring the club together again after its been ripped apart..

Why?
Cos of self preservation.. weakness and small mindedness!

Howabout these Bozos start getting abit fair dinkum with themselves.. and us???

Weak !
How pathetic is it for Terry Wallace to be commenting about contracts????

This whole thing is just absolutely rotten.

The board thought if we lose Pagan the club would descend into "dhaos and mayhem"

Yeah right!!!....

Nothing to do with the fact that theyre in charge.. everything to do with a guy who is coaching kids and were last and clueless.

Weak , pathetic board.

The blind leading the blind!!!

Can they just piss off?????!?!?!?!?

The 'Brown' group are as much to blame for the circus as the board or any other group at Carlton.

Imagine making such a pissy offer with such large strings attached, the board was right to refuse it.

Fraser Brown has gone way down in my eyes. Sounds like a mini-Elliot.

His money, he can add whatever conditions he likes IMO.
If I was loaded and was prepared to stump up hundreds of thousands I sure as hell would want the money spent in a way that I agreed with.

But it's like any transaction, there is a cost and a benefit, there has to be a balance of what you are giving and what you are getting.

IMO if it is being reported correctly what was offered and what was being taken were out of whack.

The assistance money wasn't going to be used on paying out Pagan. The money we'd have paid Pagan as coach would be used on paying him out, over the term of his contract, not up front.

Typical emotional rant form Synbad, passed off as fact. Denis has a contract, which the board chose to honour, after meeting to discuss the options. Just because the board didn't take your prefered option, it hardly makes them "weak" or "pathetic".
