No decision last night - there should be one within the week. Smorgon would not guarentee that DP will be coach next year.

According to Jim Wilson in the Hun... the club got frightened because people called the club wanting Pagan to stay on...

This board is weak!!!... they cant make a hard decision....

Its amazing how soft the leadership is and they expect the club to turn around...

Some board members dont think Mitchell would be the right man.... (because he isnt high profile)...

I'm finding it hard to understand!
So Jim Wilson says 80% want Pagan to stay on.
I get one message from the message board and another from the flower
paper. What the hell is going on? I give up.

Jim Wilson says 80% of the people calling the club want Denis...

But that doesnt mean the club isnt smart enough to make the right decision for the club without being highjacked by media (Caro) or people calling the club etc.

Most people out there dont undrestand that this club does not have a positive working relationship between coach and players...

I have heard that from the usual friends of friends and i have heard it myself from one current player. I just didn't think it was that bad. It's obviously worse.

Maybe Denis made such an impressive presentation they're having trouble working out the terms of his contract extension.

Adam White on sport927 late last night said it was an unusual situation wrt pressure on the coach because the relationship between coach and players was fine (there had been no players leaking bad press about Denis in the last couple of days, which would be the prime time to do it if there was a schism between the playing group and coach).

Obviously the board's taken lessons from Howard.

A young group of players and the three senior players we have fighting for the captaincy wont go to the media.

One thing about the playing group not coming out and leaking bad press is that they arent coming out (except Fev) to leak good press and endorse him either... eh???

I got bored and went to bed last night. So let me get this straight:

1) Brown offered to pay out Pagan if he was replaced by Mitchell and the old boys club.

2) At least half the board didn't think this was the right option, and would prefer the club to go through a proper process if they're replacing the coach.

3) They can't guarantee Pagan's position because nobody really wants him to stay (if we think this whole debacle has made Pagan's position untenable, they probably do as well).

4) So they are now going off and working out if they can afford to pay Pagan out without Brown's money.

Sounds to me like the board is doing exactly what the supporters would want/expect them to be doing, as many have articulated on this site in the lead-up. It's the politicking and back stabbing by this cabal of past players, with Sticks at the heart of it all, that I find disturbing.

I'm confused. I expected all this to be sorted out by today.

Why can't the club just say that Denis is gone and that we are searching all avenues for a new coach if that's what they are doing?

And Synbad - you say they reckon Mitchell isn't a big enough name. Fair enough from their perspective - although poor reason not to appoint him. But haven't they been canvassing the job a bit more widely (eg with Harvey) before they recommended Mitchell? I refuse to believe that Sticks and Bear recommended Mitchell without looking at other entrants in the field a few weeks ago???

I think your'e right nightcrawler, but my views on 1 aspect are different. I believe that its a very good thing what the past players have offered to do and very good that their up & running enough to put a funded proposal to the Board to hopefully benefit the Club. If only we had more people doing this.

Theres always going to be politicking but as long as they are trying to benefit the Club... I say Go For It.

Surely Pagan's position is untenable now. I know if I'd almost been given the arse I'd no longer have my heart in it.

Consider the whole thing as a vote of no confidence for a board that is unwilling to make decisions/ put their hands in their pockets to pay out a growing problem.

Rather than hang it on past players who have decided enough is enough and are prepared to make a call on Denis and pay him out...you have to look at a current core of board members that are only sticking their heads in the sand and are unwilling to make hard choices.

The reason why they wont do it now.. when a couple of days they would have is people have highlighted the fact that Mitch is a no namer... which is a bit of a risk for a board that has no clue or confidence in themselves.

Can i ask anyone.. who the hell is Clarkson????

But Hawthorn made tough choices.. didnt go with a big name coach and chopped older players for youth.. their young players, their supporters and their sponsors are pretty happy.

On the other side of the ledger there is us... paralysed to make any choice in case it is the wrong choice.

Im just happy ex players care enough to create a choice....
