It's official, you're all over-valuing the input of an AFL coach on match day.
What do you want him to do hey?
Call a time-out? Change formation? Flip to the backup play? Throw on special teams?
This is AFL football ladies and gents, a coach is severely limited in his impact on match day.
I have at least thrown up a theory (in another thread) to attempt to explain why he does what he does. You all take the soft option; that he's stupid, ignorant, living in the past, etc. Sounds great on a newspaper.
Anyway, here's what I'd like to see in terms of change:
Retained: Pagan, Mitchell, TD, GD, recruitment staff.
Shown the door: Trout, Libba, the board (for the most part), whoever the skills coach is, our strength and conditioning coach (Peter something or other, nice guy). Anyone in the footy department associated with them who doesn't provide a unique skill or a unique level of expertise in a skill. The club doctors too.
Promoted: Peter Dean.
Recruited: SOS, and whoever else we can get our hands on, perhaps a guy like Shaun Rehn, or someone with a proven track record as a midfield coach. A sports scientist and analysis team along with a strength and conditioning coach, who are all under instruction to work together with the coaching staff to maximise player development (and minimise player recovery time) through the best available training techniques and programs. New club doctors, who actually demonstrate a capacity to assess injury and are able to advise on modifications to said sport-science-built programs and techniques to minimise recovery time.
