Can anyone think of a team (past or present) with two number one draft picks in the middle..ie Murph and Gibbs? The best i can come up with is White and Johnston (however ones a ruckman and he wasnt drafter directly by Melbourne.) If all goes well..wouldn't it be great to see in the future a centre square made up of:
Insert Ruckman
Bryce Gibbs Pick 1 all smarts great boot on him and can play tall and kick goals
Marc Murphy Pick 1 All smarts great boot will run and carry.
Andrew Walker Pick 2 Can play more defensive Super quick

All we need is that mungrel hard in and under type to top it off..

AW was pick 1, but you bring up an interestig topic.

i can think of st kilda who have a lot of high draft picks they have riewoldt and goddard at 1, koschitzke and ball at 2, hayes at 7 (i think), dal santo 11 (i think), xavier clarke was early too. but they do not have two midfiielders that are both no.1 picks and it would be awesome if we could have two in murphy and gibbs. :-D

We where smashed again out of the middle though last 2 games we havnt had Stevo or Murphy .... but highlights how much the midfield needs to be added to .... Gibbs i still believe is the greatest need for the Blues and maybe if we can pick up a Ruck or a hard mire experienced Midfielder to help with the kids through PSD.

Akermanis in the PSD would be good.

If you look at the way we played this year it is quite obvious that for all the play we make, our defence is just terrible and conceedes too much opposition scoring. Hence the need for a good kpp at chb such as hanson. Gibbs would make a welcome addition to the club no doubting that but Hansen is the more important acquisition at the moment.

Frenzy the key factor in Football these days is the Midfield to win the ball in the clearances so we have first use ... to work between the defence and forward line ... and also a strong midfield has the ability to go back an assist in defence.

Yes Defene is important but ours suffer from the ball going in too frequently and being under too much pressure..

That shouldn't change our whole perspective. We shouldn't panic.

If we need too use Mclaren / Deluca in the ruck too absorb the ruck contest and rove too the opposition for 12 months then so be it.

Keep building the rest of our team, and with that opportunities will present themselves and we may just find in 12 months time a ruckman may put his hand up too come too the blues because of the opportnuity.

Delist Bryan and either promote Batson if we think he may improve, or with a late pick hit the VFL, SANFL, and WAFL and pick an established ruckman who may just do a job.

Then rookie a couple of ruckman and see where we are at in 12 months and 24 months time.

If Gardiner has bad knees and cant ruck anymore he is a certainty to be at Carlton next year....

be at Carlton - I reckon we'll offer him the captaincy (or some ideas on how to generate extra revenue).

Rambo he has a contract with Brisbane for next year. How does he become eligible for the PSD?

I think he was given #2 because he was the clubs first, first round selection since "black friday" it was a great good news story for the club and created some positive press for the club and supports leading into the new year, i think it was a great choice, jesus Russell is in his 2nd year, hes 19, the kid has hardly had a shitload of faith show in him. I wish Pagan played him like Raines full games or almost full games off the half back flank, tell him to run and back himself. I know from my experiences with sport its amazing how much better you play when the coach shows some faith in you and gives you a real chance.

I get the feeling Russel is becoming the new AW of last year and look what happened to him he is now blossoming. Get off his back he will be a good player for the Blues

Totally agree. There is no way Russell should be slated based on the fractured game time he has been given. In the few games he has been given a decent go I thought he has shown some decent skills.

You just have to look at what has happened to Carlos in the last month to see what a bit of faith and ground-time can do for a young guy.

And another example from yesterday, young Blackers was allowed to stay on for the whole last quarter and look what he came up with.

Russell is a fragile type and small tastes here and there might just be the go for his development. We must build his confidence carefully IMO.
