We should be in Voss' ear, not for the senior gig but definitely as an assistant.

That's if he does retire.

I can tell you all the kids love Mitchell.. and they love playing for him.. and he allows them to be creative and believes in giving them confidence.

and we had Digby, Franchina and Harf all returning to play for him.
I can tell you he knows our kids better than anyone else.. and he understands them.. and they all come to the AFL with form thats been attributed to playing for him...

But youd go Pyke???

Not necessarily, Pyke. However, he, Longmire and McKenna I'd consider as well. It's about going through an interview process, including Mitchell - so that you leave no stone unturned. A different perspective from others that have shared success as players, and mentored as assistant coaches.

Whether the players like Mitchell or not, it's whether the board (I say that loosely) believe he can turn the on-field fortunes around for the better and for the next 5 years!!!!

No, I said my preference (see page 4) is someone from the outside as I think coaching in VFL is overrated - there's a difference.

If Mitchell, or anyone else for that matter, get the gig I will give them a chance to prove themselves.

Now the season's over, the Mitchell push is gathering momentum.
It's being talked about in very high places. Board meeting this week.
Could be a very interesting month - tho it will need to be done soon, with draft etc coming up.

Our season starts now :-D

Mitchell is hardly a good replacement, if true. Coached only at VFL level - hardly a glowing praise.

I see that as a knee jerk reaction. Once again, the Bullants have stumbled in the finals (be it we have another chance) for the second successive season. Is Barry Mitchell the answer? I would prefer a Don Pyke or John Longmire, if we were to be bold and sack Pagan.

Whats Pyke done????
Barry Mitchell at this moment in time is the best man for the job.

"coached only in the VFL " is better than not coaching a team of your own....

We should go through the process of looking at all potential candidates like Wangers said and giving Mitchell the job would be a knee jerk reaction. Mitchell would come cheap, unlike several well qualified assistants who are comfortable in their current job and would ask for good money to coach a rabble.

Pathetic club. :(

I suppose Mitchell's inability to win a final won't be an issue for a couple of years anyway.

I think if Mitchell can get the Bullants over the line in the Grand Final his reputation will be enhanced...a loss might see him go the way of David Rhys Jones when he coached Frankston years ago...Rhys was a chance to get into the bigtime but fell of the radar when the Dolphins bombed out.
I'm not saying its right to judge a potential coach on a finals campaign only but winning looks better on the CV and you are often only as good as your last game in the eyes of many...

Remember alot of the Bullants players are Carlton listed, meaning Pagan is coaching them every day at training and thus responsible for the peaking at the right time. Remains to be seen if we have that right. Mitchell has got the best out of them on match day. Think the 'Ants had a few underdone players yesterday and got overrun in the warmish conditions.

All we have to do to attarct someone is to tell them we are rebuilding we will pay a lower amount to start with to show that you are putting things in place and reward you down the track.

What have they got at there disposal ... some great talent
Simo
Walker
Murphy
Kenedy
Betts
Ect

we have potential ... and of course picks 1 / 17 / 19 in this years "super draft"
Hopefull a candidate will have a plan and also want to work on the new kids and allow then to get game time and flourish ....
Being a full coach and knowing that if you turn the ship around is a pretty attarctive option to go for. And with the situation the way it is allows for the new coach to put his stamp on the team.

something got to change and we dont need to be paying 700K a year for a developemental coach just ludicrous ... be okay if we where experienced and had a mature list and where playing finals... but a coach who can restructure rebuild and in doing so show success can then also reap the rewards when the team is successful.

I'm exactly like the Carlton board on this one.

I've no idea which path we should choose.
