Firstly, I am still a Pagan fan, I am prepared to judge him harshly on 2007 though..

However, imagine another person who is VERY well credentialed and would be welcomed by most on this site, offered to coach carlton for the next 3 years, the first 2 of which would be free, the club would not pay an additional cent for the services of our new coach, untill Year 3 where he would be paid a Pagan type figure for that year.

Stay tuned..........

Perfect idea. I was thinking of exactly the same thing in my head. If only they had the guts to do something like that.

I was watching Richmond V Essendon* last night and I thought our list is better than Essendons but they were so competitive last night and its because Sheedy even though a moron has tricks up his sleeves and tries new things.

Except for the Bradley V Richo. That was pure tanking.

It would have to be Mitchell, and that deal would have to be the knifes getting stuck in Pagan's back. It fit's.. Hmmmmm

At least id understand football enough to get rid of Kouta and save 150k of his wages to go and bring in skills coaches and decision making exercises...

I would understand that the interchange bench is not somewhere that kids (you are forced to play so you can pretend you have a youth policy but you have no faith in..).. are forced to play...l its to give players a rest

i would understand that a young group of kids need encouragement and they need to be spoken to positively if theyre too improve.

i would understand that the game has gone past the 80s and we need a sports scientist to conduct fitness now not the guy i used from the kangaroos.. because its about sharing the work load around evenly and while youre out there you work at 100% and when then you come off to re charge.

id understand that i would need a couple of assistants who could formulate a plan on how to get the ball out of a kick out cleanly with set ups unfolding up the ground as the all comes out...even if im not smart enough to work that out myself.

i wouldnt have signed saddington or mclaren.. or longmuire or chambers..

id probably even add abit more interest in the media duties ...

dunno.. couldnt be that bad an idea bnz.

Well there is no doubt about it.. CG is a visionary.. i actually agree with alot of what he says.. and alot of others in here.

stuff is changing.. and we have to be smart with how we organise ourselves and our list.

Look at Hawthorn.. and the Hay/Rawlings scenarios..

who is laughing now???

dont kid yourself. right now Essendons list at full strength is better than Carlton. Tho Essendon* is still to bottom out and will in the next 2 years.

I'm not sure if I can put much faith in someone who's going to take 5 years to harshly figure out Pagan hasn't got it. Gees, even Sinners did it in four.

synbad, they are all stupid ideas, all you do is kick long to your centre half forward coz that's what they've been doing for 100 years... ;-)

Back to the point Electric Blue,

I am obviously delighted with the idea. However - would the 'free' first two years, and then the paid third year put the said person in an untenable position if he can't get the team to immediately fire up? As in, someone on the board would look at the coaching position and think - well he's expendable because we aren't paying him much.

I just think that there was a real positive with the Pagan situation - and that was that he's been given time to develop something. The fact he hasn't showed we got the wrong man for the job. So we sucked at candidate selection - but was the stability that we offered the wrong process? I have a feeling it was the right idea but the wrong man.

I'd hate to become Richmond where we sack a coach every two years because he isn't performing (without actually looking at the fundamentals that coach has put in place).
