That's clinched it for me.

Sign him up, now!

Akermanis wants to coach. He's young. Says he has some revolutionary ideas up his sleeve. Has no association with our players.

Sounds perfect according to your criteria.

No it doesn't.

Akermanis hasn't coached at the highest level before. As an assistant or head coach.

I'd essentially like someone with runs on the board. Someone who has proven they can coach and can coach well.

PJ that last sentence summed up Pagan... Before he arrived at Carlton.

I still think Ken Sheldon is the best Coach not Coaching... But with his son likely to be Blue soon, i don't see it happening...

Aka as an assistant with Paul Williams i'd be happy with...

Paul Williams is someone I believe we should target as an assistant coach to replace either Trout or Libba. It'd most likely be Libba given Denis' love affair with Trout.

Williams was a hard at it, blue collar midfielder who could give a ton of advice to our young midfielders.

I'd rather a non Carlton player.

Why is that, PJ?

Because I'd like someone who doesn't have an association with any of our players. I'd like someone with fresh, new ideas, and that is young. A new age coach in the mould of Neil Craig.

PJ - I'm not having a go at you 'but' I don't think too many ex Carlton people would have much of an association with our current players. I think SOS is looking at a full time assistant role for a while isnt' he?

I think Williams would as asset in some role....was a neat skilled player who could teach some of our blokes plenty especially in the area of kicking...

re: Akermanis....wants a media career....dont see him as an assistant..

The next coach of Carlton should go through an exhaustive interview process with some club people and some independants conducting interviews. The club clearly needs to define what are the key requirements for the man to take on the job and then find a person who best fits that criteria.

Posters putting up names is all good and well but I recall West Coast offering the senior job to Neil Craig which he eventually knocked back. At the time I said Neil who? Now we all know Neil Craig.

That bullshit woof and you know we should go out and through bucket loads of money at some ex premiership coach in a desperate attempt to save the president job

Ok, maybe not an association with our players, but an association with our club.

I want a coach who doesn't have a Carlton background.

I understand what pj's saying and to a large extent I agree. Then again Paul Roos and John Worsfold were very good players at the clubs which they now coach, the same with Dean Laidley to a slightly lesser extent.

I don't really know who the best candidates are but SOS is pretty ordinary I reckon in his special comments role and I'm not sure if he is a great enough communicator to be a successful senior coach.

We could always give him an Assistants role for two years and see how he goes. He's gonna need to put in a few years as an assistant anyway before any club considers him for a head role.

Would love him as an ssistant next season. It may even entice a few members back to the club..................Maybe????

If Michael Voss retires, we should pull out all stops to get him here as an assistant.

It's funny how there are no real 'Stand-out' coaches for hire around at the moment but there are bucket-loads of potentialy great coaches soon-to-come in guys like Voss (The next Leigh Matthews), Aka, Hird (would make a great coach IMO), Carey, and others who could make good coaches in Ratten, Lynch, SOS and even guys like Leppitch.

Id love to get a guy like Voss/Aka/Sos/Ratten/Hird, offer them two or three years as assistants and see how they go.

Buckley is another player who i think could make the transistion from Player to coach quite well.

Got no idea about SOS but it does seem a bit soon for him to be a head coach. I just hope the board do their homework. :?

Good call. I definately see merit in this.

He seems to have the 'package'. He:

- Has top-class football skills
- Plays a no-nonsense and hard-at-it brand of football
- Has broad football experience - has seen the highs and the lows
- Is a leader - the captain of perhaps the most successful team in VFL/AFL history
- Is respected in the football community
- Is a good communicator
- Previously barracked like mad for the Carlton Football Club

I'd love to see him brought down to the CFC in an assistant coach role.

I wonder what his vision of where the games going is? ...hmm...

Just know's what to say and when to say it does the old sos..

I believe he would be worth a go.

He is well respected and liked, and has an abundance of elite football experiance..

Let's not forget that the team with the best defense usually goes all the way and SOS would mould together one hell of a tight defense...

I can't see SOS loosing the players either which would help, as a matter of fact i can see them giving there all for him, he's that sort of bloke....

Apparently Don Pyke is a fair coach.

Agree PJ - there are huge wraps on Don Pyke, the midfield coach at Adelaide. I'd like to see the club lure him as an assistant to Carlton with a view to succeed Pagan.

Apparently Don has a sports science background, as well.

Send SOS over here to coach Sturt in SANFL for a couple years. Get a feel for doing it tough, coaching youngsters with a club with no money and lowly positioned on the ladder. Then he'll be ready to take over Carlton
