This is a childhood memory - so I hope it is true.
After Phil Pinnell transferred to Melbourne, I remember being at a Carlton game at Moorabbin (while Phil was elsewhere playing for Melb) and there was a lady near us in the first few rows - which in those days were the fold up chairs you bought into the ground yourself - sceaming and yelling for the Blues.
I was told at the time that this lady was Phil Pinnell's wife. I wonder how Phil broke the news to her that he was changing clubs? I can also see why he goes every week - I doubt he would have a choice.
Sorry to disappoint you, but Phil Pinell's wife is a Melbourne supporter. Phil goes to the occasional Carlton game but he mainly attends Melbourne games. He did say last night that he goes every week but didn't specify which games he attends.
He didn't talk about it last night (and I'm glad he didn't - showed too much class to bag the club) but he departed the Blues after the 1979 season rather acrimoneously & he didn't really appreciate the way Collo treated him one time during the mid 80's when he requested some tickets to a Carlton game for some overseas visitors.
The anger has definately settled & he now appears to have regained his soft-spot for the blues (he attended the final training session at Princes Park last year) but his wife definately did not get over the clubs treatment of Phil (a life member) & the above story about her at Moorabin could not be further from the truth.
