I'm working away on Project Link again and one thing I've noticed sporadically throughout the years I've been doing is score anomalies. Take this entry for instance where our score is listed as follows:

6.3.39 … 7.4.46 … 10.1.61 … 12.1.82

It seems as though the 3rd quarter score would be incorrect. Also, the behinds tally quite often drops off a zero if the number is 10 (see final quarter entry). I've fixed them when I've noticed them, but dunno what the go is with that weird 3rd quarter entry.

Yes camel, check my comment in the BZM forums. The spreadsheet used to automate the system sometimes lost the number 10, changing it to 1. I think it also impacted on 11s and 12s. I found a few and fixed them up at the time but clearly I missed some.

Further the example shown above though, 10.1 is actually 61 points. But 12.1 is not 82 points. Of course 12.10 is 82 points. Odd???

Stupid Excel!

Great work Camelboy - gone to #2 author with a flash!

So... what's a good idea for next project? And most importantly, what is it's catchy title?

ideas:
* Trophy Cabinet (suggested by da dah da dah from memory) with real pics of the trophies and links through to the years
* Project Goalkickers - data entry of all goalkickers ever - guess this can come from the 'Historian'.

???

I'd like to see if we have anyone out there who likes research. Maybe start at the library and see if they can't get old match reports off the microfiche for the early days?

I doubt it would be in the state library over here, so it rules me out. Then we could have Project 1897 (or insert other year here) and start to fill in match reports for the whole history of the club. It's a massive exercise, and it will probably take years rather than months, but we have to start somewhere. I'm happy to volunteer for data entry.

That would be fantastic.

We have team lists for every game played, they just need to be collated and entered.

But what would be fantastic is actual match reports for each and every game from the various newspapers in the very early days.

I know all the major Universities and the State Library have copies of these papers on microfiche. I think I have had my nose in the microfiche sections of all the Uni's in Victoria.

It is a labour intensive process to search through all the old papers though and would cost a bit as well if the contents of the microfiche were photocopied.

If anyone is going to Uni and has a bit of spare time to devote to the Blues cause, perhaps do a search of the papers in 1897 and report back.

I would love to do it but will be only be able to devote some time to it in about 4 years when the kids are in school.

Would be nice if the old papers were searchable online ..... *sigh* one day.

Hey Steve, I have some bad news for you.

Looks like the state library in Perth has the Argus from 1848-1948.

... and the Age from 1854

http://henrietta.liswa.wa.gov.au/search ... e&3%2C%2C5

That should keep you busy for a few years. 8)

I'd be happy to create a fund for people to use to pay for the photocopying if they've got time. Probably 2 or 3 copies a match at 10c a copy or so. Maximum of 20 games a season in the early days. So maybe $6 a season or so.

Get a few of the Blueseum and TC people to stick in $5 each every 3 months and that should keep it afloat.

The problem is going to be finding people with the time to devote to it, so if anyone is out there who would have time please feel free to volunteer :)

Ok, I might try and get along to the library on Monday and check it out. I'll dob myself in for 1897.

Anyone else going to volunteer and grab a year?

Fantastic effort BlueWorld.

I've tidied up the tables for you. ;)

If you can point me in the direction of them team lists I'll be happy to continue on your good work.

I reckon it would be good to list the captain and coach as well. Who captained in 96 when Sticks was out injured?

It goes without saying on Blueseum that I can put $ and time towards it...

but surely some of our Uni friends can assist with the real work on this. It's a big ask of those who are working full time / on contract ... but for those 12 hours of contact time a week surely some of our more esteemed wannabe intellectuals are the source of hope on this one?

J - does SW have goalkickers? I think that would be a good place to add some details, especially of the 1980's and 1990's

And on a separate point...what about all of our 50 year olds who remember the 1970's?

Yes he does. In fact his records are actually more accurate than those found in the CFC Annual Reports. :-D

I have the data, but not in a format that is easily shared, I could try re-arranging it, but maybe we should contact SW and see if he has the info in a form that will be easy to use.

Thanks that looks better. The team lists are in this book I have. Don't worry about it. Once you've done one it's fairly easy to do the others. Pity they didn't just leave the team unchanged all year!!! Bradley would have been VC AFAIK. Do we need the coach every time? It's not as though it changed every week and it's mentioned in the yearly summary.

All line ups and team changes for 2006 are now complete. If anyone wants to do the same for previous years....
