And Bryan. It didn't suit the team yesterday (or Kennedy), but obviously they wanted to give Bryan a decent go. Magnificent kick, but he's not tall enough to ruck, and we don't need another slow key position player.

You could argue that you should get rid of all the ball butchers in the side. And unfortunately Fish is one of them.

If we did that we'd have nobody.

The knee jerk is to make a decision on what just happened a minute ago. Its not about a planned structure into the future.
Fisher has an important role at the club because of what he brings to the team when he is fit.

In all probablility Fish wouldnt command the kind of pick wed like.. so why even bother???

I agree we obviously don't trade unless we get a pick that is advantageous to us. But I think I'm with CarltonClem on this one. I don't think his long-term strategic role is all that evident. He's a talented player to be sure, and he can take contested marks. But with his field kicking, he really needs to play close to goal, and I can't see that happening in the future (with Fev, Kennedy and Waite on the list).

I agree that Lance is surplus to needs long-term as well. But unfortunately I can't see them trading him now (given that he's been nominated as captain-in-waiting).

Yeah, isn't that scary?...

Ok Synners, so you say trade what we have surplus of, we have more talls than mids, so you trade a tall. You'll have to trade a decent tall in order to give Murphy, Stevens, Blackwell, Bentick support, so what other option do we have? Trade Waite? Ok, I'd think about that as well.

Personally, Synners, i think you need to step outside the square and look at your logic. You said:

So you trade what you can spare.. and what their upside and use is over the next 3 years and what you can command..

Ok, well, over the next 3 years, if we could get a top 30 or so pick for Fisher, then you'd try to use one of those picks on a top line midfielder. I see Fisher playing the same role as Chapman - in that he's supposed to kick 1-2 goals a game (the way they do it is irrelevant). The fact that they are completely different types of players is irrelevant - the role in the side is the same. But Fish can't do that because his field kicking is not good enough. Waite similar. In fact, I'd consider letting one go if we could get a midfielder with bona fide good disposal ball and getting ability. Playing that many talls showed us what kind of structure we have. It's top heavy and just makes us bomb the ball forward again a la Pagan 2003.

Or we could let Hartlett go. But let's face it, he hasn't played a game, he won't be worth much. But the fact is, for our structure, we are going to need some midfielders and we need them for next year and in the years following. If we miss out on Gibbs, then go tall with the next best player in the draft (Gumbleton, Hansen or whatever) then we've got another tall and still no solution to our problem.
