Project Link...

A little while ago the Blueseum Contributors started linking one game to the next, to make it easier for viewers to move through a season. BlueWorld, steve, trublue24 and myself had done about half the job...

Basically all you have to do is move to the bottom of each game review and link the prior and subsequent games, like this:

---
((Round 13, 1978|Round 13)) | ((Round 15, 1978|Round 15))

In round 1 link to this year and in the last game link to the next year.

Pretty simple, just time consuming. 1923 to 1978 still need some work...\

ANy takers?

I'll be in the blueseum tonight, hopefully uploading the Walls sacking. I will try to link a few whilst I'm there.

1923 and 1924 are done.

I'm currently doing 1972 … my year of birth. ;)

After I've done that I'll go back to the 20s and keep going forwards.

I've filled in a few years around Camelboy's work. '26-'71 left to do.

I've done a few more, up to 1929 now and I noticed steve has worked his way back into the 60s.

Great work fellas.

steve seems to have got down to (and including) 1967, so i'll start with 1966 and duck down. its hard to find where people have finished off so either a note in 'task list' in the BZM or on here would be useful.

So only a quarter of the way to go.

C'mon, its clear you all have heaps of time!

I was going to try and do a couple of years to start the day off, but here at work Blueseum doesn/t want to load for some reason??? Works fine at home with a different ISP. Obviously accessing TC is no problem. Odd.

I have to admit, I don't really understand what is asthetically unattractive about having a player linked to their profile every time you see their name. If it's not a server issue, what's the big deal?

The good thing about www.stats.rleague.com, or www.howstat.com is you can look at a game and then click on any player and check out their history.

I'm at a loss why this can't work in the blueseum. :?

It's mainly to do with the 'backlink' feature. Some players if they are linked every time they are mentioned could end up with several hundred backlinks.

But really this will only be a problem for a few dozen elite players.

Personally, I don't have a problem with linking players names, especially when they are more obscure.

There are no hard and fast rules, just general guidelines, use your judgement and everything will be fine.

Was that as clear as mud? :P

I don't understand what you mean by backlink. Wouldn't Kernahan be linked to his bio each time he is linked via ((Stephen Kernahan)) on a page? I don't get what you mean by backlink...from an end user point of view.

BTW I'm a fan of having a link the first time you see something (be it a player or whatever) on a page, but no need to link it thereafter. So the first time on a page you see Stephen Silvagni you can click on his name and be taken to his page, but if he comes up again in the original page his name is no longer linked.

If you go to, say, Verbeek's page ...

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... on+Verbeek

Look at the top of the page, just below the banner and you will see a dropdown menu that says backlinks.

Click on that and you will see about 6 backlinks for Verbeek (everywhere his name is linked from).

This is quite a powerful navigational tool, but if it has hundred of pages in it loses its usefullness.

But like I said will only be a problem for a few dozen elite players.

Yep, agreed. One link per page does the job it is intended for, providing a link and providing a backlink.

I see. I admit I can't say the backlink drop down menu has ever been used by me. As an end user, why not click on Verbeek's name (when you see it on whatever page) and be taken to a page which has (with links) all that detail? Plus more, like every game he played etc. ?

As an aside, being able to see eveyone's IPs is interesting. Is that legal given privacy rules?
