Seems he wasn't the only one at Carlton to do this.

Relying on memory, he played at the MCG against Melbourne I think, wearing no 40.

I really don't remember him in the reserves after this game either. I'm guessing that he got injured.

He was small for a forward, but marking was his strength. Some similar attributes to Brendan Parker who wore no 18 in the early 90's I think.

yep, definitely 40 Robert.

Would be great to find out more about the story.... did we pump the Demons leading to Gilmore having a 'Devonport' style game ie thrown at at the end to kick some easy goals over a dispirited opponent?

RH, you are a legend. I thought I had a reasonable memory of Carlton games going way back, but I have no recollection of Mr Gilmore.

Spot on RH.

I was there, behind the goals on that part of MCG where there was no seats and you could sit on that metal bar thingo. He drilled one and I spilled the mark - hurt like hell - must've been about 14 at the time.

He kicked heaps up the bush with Eaglehawk - I'm sure he just came down to "fill in" and that was that....

I can't remember who our regular FF was then but he definitely played the whole game at FF...

I think he has got a bike/sports store in Bendigo - someone should ring him up and get some answers!!!

Do you know which one?

(sports store)

I'd be most pleased to talk to him and fill in his bio for the Blueseum. I remember reading about him when the Buzz did their single game article last year, and have been interested in the story ever since.

He must be pleased, did he have groupies called the Daryl Gilmore girls?

Sorry couldn't resist.

Look forward to reading the article! Next you could follow up that guy that wore number 26 around 1998? Played one game against Melbourne from memory? Can't recall his name now???

Just checked - John Hynes - I 'met' a cousin of his once. Long story

Hynes played 4 - and then went down to Frankston in the VFL.

Spent one VFL game haranguing poor Prenda about how bad his kicking was. Funny guy.

I will read the story with interest.

Gerry Atric - for the amount of time I've spent watching, reading about Carlton, the clarity of my memory is actually disappointing. The sad thing is that I remember losses more than wins. I think I took the wins for granted and the losses hurt like hell.

Fortunately I'm fairly immune to losses now (still hate them though!)

Daryl is a great fella. You wouldn't meet a nicer bloke.

Was an awesome full-forward for Eaglehawk - who have produced some great Carlton players over the years.

Kicked a lot of goals for a long time. No accident that he kicked 3 in that one game for Carlton. He was a strong leading mark - very hard to stop. Good kick. I watched him for many years as a youngster.

The most interesting thing is how you're career ends after you kick three goals in your first game, you reckon that would be enough to keep a young guy in the team. Pagan wasn't on the selection panel back then was he??

Ross Ditchburn kicked 8 in the Tuesday night practice game following Gimore's 3.1 against the Dees. Ditchburn was brough back in.

In 1984, the recruitment of Warren Ralph spelt the end of opportunity for Gilmore.

Wait for the story, guys!

While you're in that era - can you follow up on that rumour - I've never been able to find out if was true or not - that Warren Ralph won Tattslotto?
