Of course it will be an MCG game that we lose - do you expect Collo to relinquish a TD game? Not on your life.
Selling out? We sold out a long time ago. The club I have followed the majority of my life is not the same club I have watched the last 5 years. Having said that it's a new ball game. If we want to play we have to follow the rules and it shits me no end.
Have you noticed "something new"? We are the Carlton Football Club - the irrelevant club!

I think we have to blame ourselves as members more. We had a chance to make decent changes to the board earlier this year and only bought in 1 new face.

I think also we expect the Board to have magical solutions, regardless of who is there. We expect the Board to be able to show strong progress. the appropriate word should be 'hope' given the current Board. Without dramatic change at Board level, which wasnt voted in, all we have is hope!

In my job I look at lots of struggling companies and there is very little you can do when you're hamnstrung by debts. AFL clubs are different of course but 'you have to spend money to make money' and we dont have money. You have to market yourself proactively but we dont have the cash to do it. We're broke but I doubt few people really believe that we're broke.

You and I see it day to day with our dealins with the Club, and who knows, maybe thats part of the driver for helping on the Blueseum? We cant give any more cash because we dont have it but we give time because the Club has nothing going for it.

At least this year we have the kids coming through. And in 2007 this should continue.

My sister went to that board meeting and let me tell you that it was a shocker.

Collo had everything planned out for that meeting even when it got heated, he had the compulsory kid [9 years old] standing in the back who interrupted my sister by asking if we could sing the team song.

Collo naturally called him up, sang the song and the meeting was over.

Not sure what rights a 9 year old has at a member's meeting.

The 'supporters' who only sign up to be members when we are winning should be smacked.

I know, I was there (and quite a few others) http://www.talkingcarlton.com/phpBB2/vi ... &start=135

Why. I get no discount on my Silver Membership and not one game is played in Canberra. ;)

It's like spending your youth smoking like a chimney and getting hammered every week on the piss then blaming the doc because you've got lung cancer and organ failure :? . The club was run into the ground and we have to re-build it.

There is no quick fix to this problem and it will take some sacrifice. All we can do is support them by buying memberships or making some kind of donation each and every year.

Bitching and moaning of what he did and should've done gets us nowhere  .

I dont think what is being suggested ie selling a home game, is any worse than what happened in 1997 (?) when we sold our jumper to Mars for the day for ?thousands of dollars and became the "M&M Light Blues"

Head says yes. Heart says no. Simple as that for me.

Diluting the culture of clubs is pushing the competition towards the american 'franchise' model of sporting teams. And that's sad.

Yes but we are not in a financial position to fight it. We have to hope the power houses of the competition fight things like that. We are no longer a power house. We just have the best history of any other Club.

I can't really understand the outcry…it's not like we're talking about relocating the whole club.

Anyway if we had 40000 members we wouldn't have this issue.

I totally agree. That's why my head says it's a good thing for the club, here and now.

That's the cost of a sport turning into a business. It loses its soul.
The insatiable push to bring in more dollars to feed the snouts in the trough. :(

Interesting that Collingwoods crowd have been lauded as the best this year and so they should be with 4 out of 4 the blockbuster games.

sometimes I think the games are allocated as to how many pies will be sold,
by which teams are playing. wonder if anyone has a link with catering rights at MCG

interesting the two teams that wont wear an away strip get blockbuster games and dollars. give all teams with the MCG as a home ground a rotation through blockbusters, with the team that get a BB to play extra games interstate. no favourites no matter how many pies are sold.

Note collingwood
all 4 blockbusters
refuses to play in an away strip
plays only 4 interstate games each year
demanded first right to monday night exposure
and until this year hogged the friday night slots

it is all about marketing and exposure for sponsors. who gets the best exposure. why do the rest miss out all the time

imagine the woods being asked to play even one more interstate game a year

Equalisation my arse, it is who will sell the most pies for Spotless.

Read the first four pages, so sorry if this has been covered since, but do stand to make $400k profit from this game or $400k gross? I mean, we will have to pay out the G or Dome of that game if the contract is broken, so we may well stand to gain far less than everyone is talking about.

If we are going to do it for a year it might as well be in 2007. We don't want to win more than four games next year.

Pray tell me when we can start winning games, as i would prefer watching those games when we are competitive and winning our fair share of games.

Are we allowed to win in 2008 or is that a super draft too?
What about 2009 or 2010...

How come Adelaide can win with only 1 pick in the top 10 draft.
Better facilities, better coaching, more money.

If more money equates with more wins - then I would hop on board this zany idea of shifting our games to ganmain grong grong matong or wagga wagga or mildura or devonport or anywhere.

My problem is why does Graeme Smorgin talk so much shit?
Why did he get on the paper and say.. blah blah blah... when he knew it was baa baa baa????

Just a wanker!!!

Im going to start a crusade to help get whoever puts their hand up at the next election in.

surely they cant be any worse than the sheep that are there now??

2 oe 3 each year till theyre gone....

Should coincide with our list being choka block with talent...

Absolute morons...

I said when Smorgon did a Brutus to Collo that he is hopeless and the only answer he will come up with is AFL... thats it!!!...

The problem with being led by an imbecile who has no clue on how to turn anything around and whos only answer to everything is hope the AFL fix it for us.. is that we become dependent on the AFl to wipe our arses for us too.

Why bother trying to turn the ship COMPLETELY around with hard work if you can run off to the AFL for a short cut that will feed you for a day???

were like single mothers living on the pension now....

I dont mind using the system thats available for talent.. because its the only way you can bring in talent...but to beg for money when we can go roll our sleeves up is inexcusable.

These blokes just want it to happen with NO PAIN.. just easy solutions...

What absolute clowns!!!!!
