Amazing really. And yet, with a decent marketing push and some success on the field I don't see why Carlton shouldn't be able to break that figure one day.

But, in order to do so the club needs to make it more attractive for supporters outside of Melbourne to get on board.

picking de luca over youngsters and past first round draft picks helps.

Memberships soar to record.
Quote:
Adelaide became the first team to achieve 50,000 members, while battlers Carlton slumped 15 per cent on last year to less than 30,000.

The term battlers still catches me by surprise.

I have a feeling our memberships were somehow tied in with sponsors... It just seems amazing that when key sponsors were lost a chunk of members we lost too... all too convenient.

When memberships rise it encourages people on the fringe to sign up. I think our marketing dept may have thought sponsors buying memberships in 2000 lots may encourage more supporters to become members...

Just a thought.

No body has thunk that maybe our numbers were inflated last year.
Final Game at the OO meant that I kept 7 seats at Carlton last year as well as my Club Support AFL ticket. That made 14 of us members even though we were only 7, in real terms.

This year we are 7 AFL members with Club Support. How many others are like this?

Well, the counter has dropped off the carltonfc.com.au homepage so I'm huessing that *28,756* is the final number.

See you all again next year. Bring a few friends along if you like.

Looks like we might need more than a sans serif logo to attract new members?! :?
