There;s a part of the Blueseum designed to track off field achievements:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... hievements

Can anyone think of any positive achievement made by the Club and its reps?

There was a Sir Kennett Luke - any more knights of the Blue Table?

Kenneth Luke was also the boss of the VFL from about '55 to '71 - that's from memory, you might want to check his BZM page.

I recall once or twice when he was in poor health towards the end of his life (around 74/75) a viewing ramp was built for him so his car could be driven onto and he could view the game without having to get out.

Sir Maurice Nathan also a President of the VFL prior to Allen Aylett was a Carlton man, as was Sir Leo Curtis. I think there is mention of them and their contributions to the club in Ian MacDonald's Book "Big Nick" - I will have a look at it when I get home.

We certainly had a lot of Melbourne City Council influence back in the 50s/60s, with Sir Maurice Nathan, Sir Leo Curtis, Ray Lawson, Ralph Bernadi all Melbourne City Councillors and/or Lord Mayors of Melbourne at one stage or another. Contacts likes these would have helped us no end during the mid to late 90s.

And there was Sir Robert Menzies influence in getting Alex Jesaulenko a transfer to Melbourne in his Department of Navy job which enabled us to snatch him away from North Melbourne who had signed him up.

John Elliott has driven most of our corporate and influential support away - hopefully someone like Ahmed Fahour can bring them back for us either in an official or unofficial capacity.

add former President Ian Rice to that list too, AGRO. He was a former Lord mayor too.

O.J. Nilsen was also a Lord Mayor of Melbourne.

The question is how many Lord Mayors have not been Carlton Supporters? :-D

Oliver J. Nilsen also owned 3UZ at 45 Bourke St;....at the time the top Radio Station in Victoria.

When you say 'Carlton people' are you saying they had a role? I couldnt find Maurice Nathan in the BZM yet - can anyone assist? Have added Fitzpatrick (Thanks BW) and the Lord Mayor link to RIce and Nilsen.

By the way, the weekly Record has some great stats each week v the various opponents. In Round 2 I added alot of history just based on the Record. Now that I can't get to games for a while, could someone please track this? Happy if someone just faxes me the stats pages - please PM me if you buy the Record and would like me to enter the relevant data.

mols....you seemed unimpressed with my Sir Robert Menzies info.

Not only was he Prime Minister of Australia; he was considered to be a generous Carlton benefactor.

Anyhow....

Where Warby went after Carlton!

Where his son Peter came from to play with us.

I think Warby became a very good lawn bowler up there?

Yep, born and bred in Tat.

You know, the Warburton name does ring a bell but I just can't place it. Might have to ask mum.

Keith's profile is blank at the moment, if you have any memories of him or his son Peter as players your input would be most welcome.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +Warburton

For a fairly small town it produced a few players for the Blues at least 6 or 7. I used to go watch Tat (bulldogs jumper) play every week, help out with the scoreboard etc, good fun.

Jars and Mols....for the second time; I've just spent quite a bit of time doing a profile on Keith and Peter Warburton.

Once again after I clicked "save"; it all disappeared with the message that I was not allowed to edit that page.....grrrr.

This is the text that I wrote:.....I copied the Mother this time!

Keith Warburton was an outstanding Full Forward with the then VFA Club Brighton when he was recruited by Carlton in 1951.

Oddly his Date of Birth was 07-07-1929; and he wore No:7 at Carlton!

He was not a big man; standing just 178cm and weighing 79kg; but he was lightning quick with his reflexes, and kicked equally well on both sides of his body.....even drop kicks!

He became famous from his first game (when he kicked 7 goals) for his incredible ability to take freakishly high marks in an acrobatic manner.

He was selected in the Victorian side in 1952 and actually played in the centre! A fellow named Coleman was in the goalsquare!

At a dance during the '52 Final Series; he collapsed as a result of a body blow during that day's game; and was rushed to hospital where he hovered near death for a worrying period; but eventually recovered after blood was donated from the public following an urgent appeal.

He returned in '53; but in '54 got another knock to the kidney (which was later removed) and he reluctantly retired at age 26.

His son Peter followed his Dad to Carlton in 1971-72; and played 4 games for 1 goal. (174cms and 72kg)....Guernsey #23.

Sorry Warby - probably need to check with the Boss but famous fans isn't my idea of what goes into the Blueseum? If he'd carried the drinks once then maybe?

Jarusa?

Great work on the Warburtons though - shall also add to the father/son thread:

I've got a query on Keith McKenzie. He is listed as coaching the club for 2 games between 1972 and 1975, the same period that Barassi was our coach.

It obviously looks like he was a temporary coach when Barassi couldn't coach for some reason.

Does anyone know the story?

That would be when Nicholls was coach.

Apologies, you're correct. But change Nicholls for Barassi in the above and the question still stands :)

Even more embarassing is that I checked it before typing the question and still managed to get it wrong

Warby - we've got Menzies in as a Number One Ticket Holder - so I retract my earlier statements and ask for anything else on the man:

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... rt+Menzies

By the way, sounds like your editing problem is either a) you're not registered, or b) 30 minute time out on entry?

Steve....Keith McKenzie coached Carlton in 1972 for 1 game for 1 win; and in 1975 for 1 game and 1 win.

I'll have to look up the circumstances of these games in my records and books when I get a chance.

He was of course a long time Club Secretary.

Molsey....I must apologise for omitting these stats from Keith Warburton's Bio.

Played 1951-1955......74 games and 91 goals.....sorry about that!
