He's right

And, BTW, is that a young Robert Redford in that picture.... or Lance Whitnall?????

What Stevens also failed to mention is how some selection policies are killing us.

"Killing" might have been a bit of an exaggeration

"not helping" is more accurate

Take your pick from DeLuca, Chambers, Sporn.........

not helping us - euphanism for trying to win rather than develop.

yes

but trying to win with a pair of 2s, knowing your opponent has an ace-high flush

call me conservative, but I'm just not interested in gambling with Chambers as my trump card, and DeLuca my 3-high

I don't know which Carlton Stevo is watching but I don't think that we are anywhere close to playing winning football. Why - I'll tell you why:

1) Players are inconsistent - Scotland (and others) brilliant one week and useless the next week.

2) Poor skill level - just look at our shooting at goal and general field disposal. We CANNOT hit targets or man up!

3) Game Plan - I (like the players) have NO IDEA what it is.

Am I alone here or do others agree????????

I disagree as well, but with some caveats....

We have some great young personnel...... but young players make some mistakes and thats bound to happen for a little while longer.

Though I do believe that Pagan errs at the selection table, and overestimates the ability of some players (including, for example, Whitnall's ability to play on a Croad)

Chambers & Sporn didn't play this week so you can't blame it on them.

the "......." indicate there are more..... there is a subset that when dipped into our chances of winning don't increase. Teague, sadly, is also on that list.

I'm with Ty, in that young players are inconsistent (OK, so Scotto isn't that young....), and we'll get so frustratingly close to playing winning footy, and then one day, it will all click into place - it might not even be this year - and BAM! we're back, and winning footy will be far easier to come by. Look at the way Hawthorn have been playing this year....

Guys like Walker and Murphy are just awesome young players. And they're not alone on our list. These guys are "world class" talents..... the more action they get, the better we'll be... and things WILL click eventually.....

however..... we have a launching board in place.... but that board will be in place for any coach... what Pagan has to do is actually make the launch. The jury (in my mind) is out on that. Pagan both infuriates me at times, and warrants my respect. He did excellently in the Melbourne game, but still had a few eye-raising player selections..... then the next week he inexplicably brought in Chambers............

Pagan seems caught between selection policies. I feel he has the 2004 selection policy at heart, but conceeds for certain kids, and not others.

I can only hope Pagan's strategy is "just to play DeLuca until Kennedy is fit and then he's straight out".... because if he's actually picking DeLuca because he thinks he's good player, then .... I mean... its hard to respect that

Murphy can't be expected to play well every week... like this week. That's why you need experienced players in the side.
