I find it amusing that when they first touted away strips...how many years ago? 4, 5? more?...all everyone wanted was a simple reverse colourway.

Now we have workshopped it to death over the last frew years, and turned a few opinions, it's too boring!

Hey, it's not my preferred, but it will look ok.

I think it's a smart move in hindsight. Media start saying "Carlton unveils clash strip...while Essendon* and Collingwood still argue"....
I think it shows a leadership stance from one of the Traditional clubs BUT as you said Mrs C ...with the clash jumper that "should" be adopted - A reverse colour strip.

Basically doesn't come across as a marketting ploy or anything cynical. MAkes the silver tigers jumper and westcoast's bad panel van art look like crap/aged/markerring dominated options....NOT the prime concern...protect the image (colours logo of the club) and meet the edict of having a clash jumper...

I like it a lot!

Agree with this in a sense, but put it this way, there's no way I'm buying something so boring. And I was looking forward to buying the away strip. It'll sell very badly

No denying it's kinda dull, but it's a bit of a compromise.

It's got enough navy blue on it to somewhat appease the 'but we are the NAVY BLUES' brigade, and it's predominantly different to the regular jumper.

The clashes with Melbourne, Freo, St Kilda, port and even collingwood* from behind - or any team that has a dark back - are definitely evident from the top deck of telstra dome. Or maybe not evident.

*(yes, I know we don't play collingwood at the dome)

One of the AFL's better decisions.

I don't mind the jumper, I certainly think they could have done something better (perhaps using silver?), but it's passable. Conservative, and sure to be the version to ruffle the least amount of feathers. It looked ok on tv.

Paired with the white shorts will be atrocious though - look at Freo and North when they play in their predominantly white guernseys with white shorts. They look ridiculous. Navy shorts would have been a better option.

I also think it's weak of the AFL to not insist the jumpers are worn for all clashes of guernseys - fancy having to wear the jumper against Port (?????) and not Richmond or Essendon*. What is the point of a "clash" guernsey?

I agree...if by "It's awesome" you mean "It's dreadfully boring"

Looks like a training top.

KK, we only have to wear it for 3 or 4 games if that, so i guess the alternative jumper can change in design every few years.

You're right.

I just think they missed a great opportunity.

Well the glass half full crowd reckon hey, we're not changing the design of the jumper, just reversing the colours and adding a bit of trim.

Collingwood can't do that. :-D

Yes they can. And have. They changed from a white jumper with black stripes to a black jumper with white stripes. Thanks to Eddie.

We reversed the colours of the top, but unlike Collingwood we have no links with 'WHITE' in our colours. We are navy blue, thats it, collingwood are black and white, so they can't say we just reversed our colours coz we didn't.

Just a few minutes ago on SEN, Carlton revealed the shorts they will be wearing to complement the "clash" jersey:

They also come in "home game" variety:
