2. What was with the move of Fevola into the middle before half time?

Fevola is a confidence player. He wasn't getting his hands on the ball up front, so Pagan put him in the action. If he gets going then the sky's the limit, unfortunatley it didn't work. :( But did have to be tried IMO

Absolutley devastated today...You could see it happening as the Pies were kicking goals from everywhere..Licuria's 1st, Clokes goal from 70+, Roccas snap on his left, Tarrants dribbled goal & even Shaw kicked a goal around the corner..Following up from the bummers 17.4 to have 16.1 kicked against us after half time was unbelievable. Hopefully we will get the rub of the green soon...what really p..sed me off was the amount of times our defenders failed to punch the ball through for a behind and we would invariably concede a goal...As for Fev & Lance, we need to give them more space..Time and again they are being crowded..i dont care who you are, you will struggle to score when you are against 2-3 opponents every time...Being up by 4 goals in the 3rd qt, we should never have lost in those hot conditions

A comment from a fellow Blues supporter on the way home. He said that he thought that we ran out of legs after being 4 goals up.

Thought about this and I remember noticing that the Collingwood players had an esky out with cool drinks at 3/4 time, where we had nothing except normal water bottles.

Did we run out of legs in the hot conditions and could better player management helped.

Things like better hydration, being rotated a bit more and having a large fan nearby etc - it was pretty hot out there.

I know weve only played only 1 good qtr in 12, but maybe we would have had better quality 4 qtr contributors today if they were better managed in this way.

We lost by 3 goals, which isnt a lot really, maybe a small factor like this would have made enough of a difference.

As mentioned elsewhere they had a 6 day break, we had 8.

Last week Essendon* were coming off a night game and we were coming off a day game against the Kangaroos played in stiffling heat yet we finished stronger, much stronger.

As for rotations you may have a point. We simply have too many players around the 6ft mark that are unable to play midfield hence too much is left on the shoulders of Stevens, Scotland, Campo and Kouta.

We really need the likes of Chambers, Walker and Bannister to be regulars this year as players such as Sporn, Davies, Carrazzo, Wiggins etc can't be rotated through the middle.

That was our 3rd game in a row in pretty 'warm' conditions. Anything to that playing a role in our performances, or is that just clutching at straws?

We had an eight day break from last Friday while the pies had a six day break I think.

No excuse imo.

Good point.

Agreed. I can understand them wanting to reward VFL form, but a very strange choice in the conditions I would have thought. I can only assume that they're still not absolutely convinced that Walker and Chambers are ball to full fitness yet.

Even if we are 1-4 I still would give us every chance of playing finals, as we'll probably be 3-4 (Hawthorn and Richmond) and then we've got the overrated Cats.

While I admire your optimism/confidence, I'm not convinced by it. We've played 3 bottom 8 teams (yes I know Roos are currently undefeated, but I don't expect that to last). We've lost to 2, and just gotten over the other 1. We now have 2 interstate games coming up. While we may score some wins over the bottom 2 sides after that, unless there's significant improvement we're not even going to win our fair share of games against the other lower sides. Not to mention the top sides, who you'd have to say we'll struggle big time with, given the way we're going.

guys one thing i lvoe about your coach is his no nonsense appraoch..ask him about umpires...ask him about injuries..and he never uses them as an excuse cos there isn't anything u can do.....

so don't go using weather and goal accuracy as a straw to cluth on.....

unfortuantely..cos it killed me to see the filth win one....but u guys played a shit 2nd half..u let clement control their backline and your midfield just stopped....

u have livingston and Thorton out...which means tyour midfield has to be top notch...all game every game...u didn't have that today

Needed the likes of Bannister(super fit), chambers, Walker and Simpson.....Bret Johnson was a poor choice for the conditions...

Agree with my bro Jake that some of our smalls/meds are not genuine midfielders as they dont have the running ability and are better suited to flanking roles..which limits our options.
Port and Feo will require more runners....maybe Chris Bryan could get a run v Port.....Brogan, Lade, Primus are going wear Barney down...

Yeah I can't see too many excuses today. We played a poor game, but it was a game that Collingwood won rather than we lost IMO.

Collingwood just showed more passion and attack on the footy, while our guys seemed to stand around waiting for someone else to get the ball.

And as for them kicking 15.1 after half time, as I said elsewhere it's no fluke if you get heaps of chances from withing 10-15 metres out. Their forwards fired while ours misfired.

As a poster above said, though: F&^$@!!!!!!!!!!!111

The reason that the weather was mentioned wasnt because it was an excuse, but I noticed that Collingwood seemed to have better management of their players in this way than we did.

That makes then better prepared than us for the game.

The simple logic here is that better player management in 31 degree conditions might have meant that our midfield didnt stop like they did.

Fact was they stopped and a deficient Carlton defence was put under too much pressure which helped kill us.

Hot weather and player management in it of course is only a possible contributing reason why our midfield stopped.

Remember 1987, we won a gf against the Hawks. A telling factor in our favour on day was 32 degree conditions, similar to today.

Not an excuse, more a suggestion of possible bad preparation on our part.

Fresher players in the midfield mightnt have stopped the way they did today.

Brisbane and Carlton both faded after having tough games last week and both looked like they lacked a yard of pace in the 2nd half.

Pagan was aked why Walker isn't playing on radio pre-match and it's obvious he thinks he needs time in the ants. I don't think it's a fitness issue.
