One thing I forgot to mention.

The highlight of the night for me was the gentleman who received life membership.

Sounded like he had been a volunteer around the club for decades.

He gave a beautiful little speech where he mentioned his three relatives who had their ashes scattered over Princes Park, his voice was breaking at this stage, but he managed to encaspulate his and his family's love for the club in one very simple sentence. It was fantastic, I think he got the biggest audience reaction on the night.

He also mentioned that volunteers do an enourmous amount for the club, never a truer word said.

Out of interest, anyone know which board members are up for re-election next year?

After Lee getting in, and Clarke just missing out, I reckon there will be some nervous directors this time next year. Let's just hope that some excellent alternative candidates are available next year...

Maybe we should run a fundraising campaign to put a full page ad in the fin review asking for talented, successful Blues supporters to put there hands up ;)

Chatting to Malouf, during the COUNT, I learned that the Club were keen to speak to Clarke about getting on board as an invited member.
This would be a forward step.
Can't see why he wouldn't given that 7 votes were all that kept him off.

Were you directly behind that lady who was scrawling notes throughout the meeting and did not so much ask a question but gave a ringing endorsement of the current board and then ended with the Kennedy-esque 'Do not ask what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club!'.

If so I was the fat bastard behind you in the brown shirt, sitting next to Danielle and The Sole Emoticon.

Come up and say hello next time, now you know my ugly mug.

Nah, directly in front of Danielle I'm guessing, one of the only 3 people under 20 there I reckon

Was your dad there too?

Haha no, I sat next to that guy. He hates Lance too

Cool, I know what the back of your head looks like now.

You're right very few under 21 there. Come up and have a chat next time.

That's actually a clever move. It helps to stop resentment at the election process, while making disaffected members feel like their voices have been heard.

I'd actually like to see the club be proactive and announce that they want to change the constitution at the next AGM (cheapest way to do it) so that all financial members get to vote.

And before you say it Synbad, yes we might have to take a dictionary in and explain what the word proactive actually means ;)

I was just re-reading some of the press from the time that Collo took over, and one of the concerns of this board was the ageing of Carlton's members.

Have any initiatives been brought in to address this?

Might also need the Dictionary to explain what Financial Report means and questions pertaining to the report may be asked now. This isn't the same as General Business time.

The Lady with the Kennedy esque comment. I used to sit in the row behind her at the OO. Thaank you Collo for moving us to the Dome and the G... Haven't seen her for several years.
Now I remember why I'm happy when I sit down in my seat.

Who is Mr Moloney and where does he drink? These questions are more relevant than many asked tonight yet I'd love to view him during a game and discuss matters pertaining to the result following.

Like Jarusa this was my first AGM & I was very disappointed. For starters, Collins, Malouf & one other person (I couldn't see who it was) were sitting facing everyone on a stage, the other board members were sitting in the front row facing them - I thought it may be more appropriate to have all members sitting on the stage making them able to answer questions that were directed to the board.

Secondly, they would not answer the difficult questions & chose instead to answer the idiots who asked why the players can't play for less money & whether they think the decline in membership was due to Fev's resigning :garthp: I would much rather they answer how they are going to keep the social club members for years to come & respond to the concerns over the Sticks room at the Dome.

Thirdly, I think the board member who had a cheap shot at Greg Lee after the meeting when we were talking to him was disgraceful & does not display unity in any way, shape or form.

Finally, I was really disappointed that Greg Lee did not outline what his vision was for the board or what he aimed to do as a new member of the board.

More later.

It was a classic - wasn't it? I remember how you asked "who is this idiot?"

No. Come 6 pm I was exhausted but I still stayed up for 6 hours. I don't drive much either. :P

There might be another reason why I wasn't there that you'd crucify me for but that should be rectified in the coming days...

Give Greg Lee a few weeks to assess what he's stepped into before we start demanding a plan for change. No point in making promises you can't deliver on.

The question should of been to each individual board member. What have you achieved for the Carlton Football Club in the past 3 years? We know Greg Lee was responsible for the Heroes Stand, but what have the rest of them done?

speedy, I'd rather not say. I don't want to make things worse. It's a current board member & I don't think it would make things any better if I named him here.

Translation: PM me for the goss and if anyone says it publicly I will end you.

I added the last bit for dramatic flair.

You should expose the flower. No more covering up for the bad apples. I want decent fair dinkum goers in charge of my club.

Nice to meet you mikkey & mjonc :)

A few observations

Not a great deal of new light was shed on future initiatives, although as mentioned by another poster, coach sponsor TBA soon.

I asked Collo what the annual maintenance cost of PP was & he advised it was around 800K. I'd heard varied reports over recent weeks & just wanted to hear the figure from the horse's mouth. Lost my nerve a bit at the time but would have liked to also ask why it's so bloody much considering we don't even play there (that has me confused). Have later heard from another TCer that during drinks afterward a board member advised that the figure is closer to 1.3 Mil. So he either wasn't listening to Collo & neglected to toe the party line, or there is some sort of weird financial interpretation goin' on - dunno :?

Members across the whole spectrum not happy with the very messy & confusing 'registered voting member' arrangement. That bloke Fish I think was his name was spot on when he said Collo had stated ALL members would be eligible, period, when he first came into office in 2002. That was at the Fightback Rally & I recall him saying it. That the members are still being messed around on this one 3 & a bit years later is terribly disappointing & was not handled particularly well by Collo or Mallouf.

The ammendment ballot was where the unrest in the audience really rose I thought. My perception was that OK, granted, it's only for AGMs & will probably never really have to be taken into account, but lowering the min requirement for a club meeting of any sort to as low as 25 was a bit on the nose IMO & I disagreed with it in principle. Sure they might sometimes struggle to get the 200 (even that is doubtful), but lowering to 25?? Perhaps 100, no worries. The point was also made from the floor that the ammendments were worded poorly & should've been broken down into separate ammendments - which people could agree or disagree with on their merits individually - rather than collectively, which Collo accepted. In all honesty the whole 25 minimum thing will probably never take effect but it just isn't a real great time to come up with ideas like that.

For me the atmosphere at this point reminded me of my days as a factory casual, where the manager would call a meeting & throw up an idea for the future - to a cynical audience who'd been burnt in the past. The result is, naturally, that the group smells rats at every corner & makes that known. Management realises they're not really getting anywhere & gives up; they answer questions generally rather than specifically, sometimes just jump straight to the next person's question, and overall give the impression they want the meeting to finish. People walk away unresolved.

A bloke stood up near the end & questioned/commented quite well re the pretty average soc club setup at TD. Thought his comments about the closing time & general look of the room were good, but I just don't know if the board is solely (g'day Jars) responsible when talk turns to sociability/get togethers among we members. To that end I must confess I do agree with the 'ask not what the club can do for you…' woman a bit. If you want to meet other members etc, get a pot in your hand & go up to someone & talk shit about footy. You can't expect the organisation to do this for you & I accept it's difficult for the board to constructively comment when a topic like this arises. So in some cases I can see things from both sides.

The song was sung at the end, lead by a very confident young boy who was probably cammo in disguise. Most uninspiring, flat rendition I think I've ever heard a group of Carlton supporters sing…. :(

My highlight of the night was at drinks afterwards when mikkey asked us if we'd met the Sexy Squad, & that PJ's the only one with any brains  Danielle agreed wholeheartedly.

Actually, the other highlight was a bloke in a cap sitting a couple of metres to my left who looked exactly like Patrick Smith (turned out it wasn't). Jarusa & I were quite sure it was, to the point I was considering outing him to the crowd. At one stage I was descretely but intensely pointing at the guy to get Synbad's attention, who in turn thought I was pointing at the tray of corn chips, & promptly helped himself
