So who gets the job this time?

Carrazzo?
Teague?
Sporn?
Russell?
Thornton?
Walker?
Whitnall?
Livo?
Bannister?

If it was my choice it would be time to unleash the Wiggles. Perfect height, strong and quick and IF his confidence is up will add a bit of dash to keep Robbo away from the square on the rebound.

2006 is here and its time to throw down the challenge to the Wiggles in the first 5 rounds and see if he ready to step up to the mark.

Wiggles has had too many chances. He will be off our list at the end of the year and replaced by the next batch of draftees.

Walker or McGrath should be the match up. Teague is way too slow.

actually i wouldn't mind seeing Cory McGrath given first crack at him.

he's done well on bucks playing as a forward in the past. he'd have to be careful with his scgraging tacticts though

Walker - he has the height and pace. May get outmuscled but so will the other candidates ... time for him to step up. Agree that McGrath may also be a logical choice given his performance on Buckley last year.

Wiggo or McGrath for mine.

They have more than Robertson, down forward....Neitz, Miller, Johnson, Yze, Green, Bruce, Davey,Pickett and Roberston is a fair amount of firepower especially in the smalls to medium group. Even with Bruce underdone its going to be hard yakka for our defense....if they get the ball down there enough they will win, cos we cant stop all of them. Key is to win the midifield battles and make sure the forwards work hard to retain the footy down our end...

Wiggo too close to their goal doesnt grab me...I think Trent Sporn needs to step up and I liked his previous work on James Hird...pace is the only doubt I have on Sporn...I'd like to see Jordan Bannister get a game and played own back on a someone like Bruce but there is about as much chance as Bannister getting a game as there is of Tamsyn Lewis getting a invite to Jana Pittmans wedding..
Corey McGrath would be my choice for Pickett.....

Five of the the back six will be :

Lappin, Thornton, Walker, Whitnall and McGrath whoever the 6th player is in our line up won't be getting Robertson.

Whoever gets the job will have an easier job if the midfield do theirs and play accountable football.

Teague would be my first choice for that reason, Walker second.

Robbo would be better overhead than Buckley or Hird, I think he'd be too much for McGrath, Sporn or Wiggins.

Carrots, Banno, Walker or Sporn.

Anyone else would get smashed. Having said that, aside from him and Bruce I would be confident our backline can shut down their forwards in a 1 on 1.

So they could all probably help say Walker out and he could quite easily run off Robbo.

I think our defense will do their job in the arc, the real fear is goals on the run from 40-55 out.

AW for mine. Can go with Robertson in pace & in the air, is fit as a trout, has that same touch of flair that Robbo has and can hopefully put some pressure on him by running off him.

Bannister or McGrath, someone that will hurt him, give him a few.

Ok, lets try and be methodical about this. Lets assume for the moment that the dees line up like this:

HF: Pickett | Neitz | Bruce
FF: Yze | Robertson | P Johnson

I'm assumming Rivers misses, and Miller plays CHB. What are our best matchups?

I suggest:

HB: McGrath | Whitnall | Walker
B: Lappin | T-Bird | Saddington (if fit) Livo (if not)

I'm assuming Davey plays on the wing, and I still say bring in Russell to tag him, but I'm not expecting anything to happen there.

Neither of the Whitnall/T-bird match-ups are ideal, so I think we need to rely on trying to win the midfield battle to sway those in our favour. I'd like to see Walks play on Bruce and blanket him for the first half. Ride him into the turf and test out those A/C joints. Bruce can't be that fit, so if Walks is giving him a bath at half time they may bench him and then he can run off whoever comes on in the second half.

Yze will play off the HB imo.

Pickett will play HFF with Davey and Robertson will move into the FP with P Johnson at CHF (he's 199 cms and 100 kgs ffs).

I think you're right about Rivers not playing though.

So the lineup should look like this:

HF: Pickett | Johnson | Davey
FF: Robertson | Neitz | Bruce

You always put the firepower closer to goal.

Robo will be way too strong for Walker. Bannister would be the ideal selection given his strength and speed, but it seems he's unlikely to get a game any time soon :?

McGrath and Sporn would both get caught out on the lead :?:

Too late I have already "penned" 6 goals against Robertson - in my early edition of the "Football Record." It will be easier to add goals from there rather than liquid papering them off.

Walker - 189 cms, 92 kgs (latest figure from DOA)
Robbo - 184 cms, 93 kgs

Not an issue. Matches him in the air, is faster and pretty much as strong now - I would back him for this job.

Banno is 190 cms and 88 kgs so another good matchup, don't trust his smarts though. Has long arms so can throw a spoil in there.

Yes, they would have to have the defense setup structured to prevent regular straight-line leads from Robbo. Sporn has long arms and McGrath is a solid defender.

Walker may be 92kg but still gets pushed off the ball very easily.....will take a few more years before he's strong enough to hold his ground

Playing Walker on Robbo will be robbing us (pardon the pun) of the dash that Walker has been providing off half back during pre-season. Robbo is most dangerous in the forward 30, so a stay at home defender has to get the job.

The key to us winning this week will be how we handle Robbo and Davey IMO. Neitz will be covered and I believe Miller has to be played down back also due to the lack of defenders at Melbourne.

PS: Robbo is my favourite player in the AFL and also in my dream team, so either way I can't lose :-D

Walker will see plenty of the ball playing off Robbo and I don't think he's quite so easy to push off the ball.

I'm chewing gum at the moment and just bit the hell out of my tongue... flower!
