He's not a game breaker anymore?

When he's winning centre clearance after centre clearance you (and the opposition) take notice.

I can recall a heap of games in the last few years where he has dragged us back into the game on the back of clearance after clearance. He is sensational at that.

..i agree that Kouta's an excellant clearance player, the problem lies with those around him who he's clearing to.. ..the game moves faster, and he's only getting slower (unfortunately).. ..i agree that the opposition does take notice of Kouta's clearance ability, and he's not easy to stop..but what is easy to stop is who he clears the ball to.. ..and that's where it usually comes undone for us alot of the time.. ..we win a centre clearance, and not long after we're straight back onto the defensive unless we've been lucky enough to penetrate our forward 50 right-quick.. ..but if he (within reason) whacks a few players they might be less inclined to pummel/steamroll our other players and if so, then he's clearances will become more effective..

Hey just because so many around him aren't quite good enough isn't his fault!

The guy has been a god!

At any other team we'd be plnking him at half forward or the forward pocket to live out his career in fun and without the pain, but Carlton still has to try to put him everywhere from centre half back to full forward! He's 33, almost played 250 games and given me many of the great Carlton memories over the last 10 years.

Kouta , yous are really good. :-D

I agree with you on that note, from the looks of our team's physiques we are becoming one of the more physical sides in the competition; we need to use that to our advantage (my God, I just used a semi-colon correctly on an internet forum).

Let's start making them really earn their first possessions, slow them down a little bit more as the game grinds on, make use of our superior strength and endurance in the engine room.

I believe Kouta was number 1 in the AFL for season 2005 for clearances (Maybe Jarusa can check). Not too bad for an old fart... Just need some ball carriers around him.

#1 in Clearances, third in contested possessions. Of all current players since 1999, Koutoufides ranks first in contested possessions and fifth in clearances.

You've got to give him a heap of credit for the way he has totally changed his game since his bad run with injuries. Good work and well done Kouta

I wonder what the record number of league games for a player who's suffered two or more knee reconstructions is?

Kouta has only had one knee reconstruction

Paul Licuria did his knee twice before his debut, and has played 160 games. Michael Wilson has also done his knee twice and has played 152 games

Did he just strain his knee the second time?

In the incident with Jason Johnson he injured his posterior crutiate, then his anterior cruciate against Richmond, then I think the medial or posterior against Sydney.

They have corrective procedures for most knee injuries these days but for ACL it's a full reco.

..sure, Kouta's been great on-field for the team, there's no doubts about that at all.. ..and at the moment he's one of our best players.. ..but, being one of the better players.. ..it means his skill levels aren't always shared by everyone else, ergo by skills alone he can't carry the team.. ..he can't be everywhere at once, nor can the other better players of the team.. ..but pure hardiness can be shared by all.. ..he needs to lead by example in this.. ..most of us agree that at the moment our overall team skill levels aren't up to scratch (but we're getting there).. ..however, i think our list is better than in '04 when we won 10.. ..sure our percentage was shite, but at least we always recovered after the maulings.. ..and i think alot of it came from pure grunt, and desperation.. ..the hunger needs to be recaptured, and the captain needs to be starving out there.. ..he needs to be the rock.. ..skilled, consistent footy is great in a captain, but it's also very much expected from any and all professional footballers.. ..the captain needs to deliver that special something, above and beyond the call of duty.. ..he represents the team, and when there's no controlled aggresion we come across as soft targets..
