I just don't know how we actually know what sort of a pitch (if any) we actually made for Power. Remember we are being told that Power was DESPERATE to come home. This logic is a little puzzling given that he knocked back a LOT of money to go to Collingwood, and reportedly also some interest from Essendon*. Were any of us there, or are we relying on the hearsay of others? I mean, realistically, were any of us in the room when our people made a pitch to his people? I don't have any evidence before me that says the club don't know how to make a pitch (nor do I have any evidence before me that says they do).
Out of interest Synbad, you say to Blues Number 1 that he wouldn't know how to make a sales pitch. Tha's ok. Just wondering though, what should our sales pitch be? It's a genuine question. Marketing 101 will tell you that Marketing should be based on the following variables: Price, Place, Promotion, Product, Phsyical Cues, People, and Processes. My guess is that we stand as follows:

Price: probably couldn't offer Power what he wanted. Although the fact he knocked back heaps of money from Collingwood probably says he was after more than just money. Issue is though, perhaps this derailed our bid from the start. Remember we have a board whoce first responsibility to members is its fiscal management (that's the platform on which they were put in).
Place: Melbourne - reportedly what he wanted, but remember he stayed in Brisbane, so it can't be that bad for him.
Product: A great brand, the most successful in AFL history. A rebuilding brand.
Promotion: this is the one we don't know. We are promoting ourselves well enough to get the Teagues, Morrells, Sadingtons, Scotlands of this world - but are we promoting ourselves well enough to get the Powers?
Physical Cues: Deplorable training facilities. Gym hasn't changed since Jimmy Buckley played.
People: Leading coach, considered one of the best in the business. Premiership coach. Young, developing group of players, realistically another few seasons from finals action though.
Processes: Business Plan in place, currently being met by Board. Rebuilding phase in place for team, currently considered to be in final year of 'sentence' for draft penalties.

We talking hundreds or thousands here?

Rent your suit.. that way it never goes out of fashion.

As long as you don't go ultra-hip a suit shouldn't go out of fashion for years, and there have been a few occasions where something has come up and there hasn't been time to organise renting.
