Talking to Demons supporters after we picked up 'The Duke' of Earl (Yay) they said
'you can have 'im'. couple of years later they we're crying;
"you lured him with cheque book recruiting!!"

Justin Murphy is another who falls into the 'handy' category.

I remember Ruskucklic's first game (or one of his first games) at Carlton in 1974, he marked everything that came his way, (probably couldn't believe the delivery and service he was getting after struggling at Fitzroy) he took about 14 marks and he kicked 1 goal 11 behinds or something ridiculous like that, he just couldn't kick straight but was a teriffic mark.

Big Nick in his book said at the time he was asked by the Match Committee whether he wanted Rusckucklic and he said no, but the club went and got him anyway. :roll:

I also remember a game against North Melbourne in 1978 when Rodney Galt "tore North Melbourne another arsehole, it was not after Jezza took over as coach in 1978 and we were sitting bottom of the ladder with about 2 wins 6 losses - we were not favoured to win, but Galt marked everything that came his way that day and kicked about 6 goals. :wink:

The only other decent thing that Rod Galt did after that was as the photographer for "The Bluebirds" and the poster of which decorated my bedroom wall in the late 70s. :oops:

Rice was a good story as he was rejected by 2 clubs. The cats got fid of him when he did his knee then he did it again in his first game for us after looking pretty good. Remember his comeback game a year later against the scum when he smothered then layed a brilliant takle on Wankaneen. That was the day we eventually got them back for 93'.

Alan Thorpe. I remember watching him play an ansett cup game in 1995
and thinking we had recruited the next Gary Ablett. Dont think he ended up playing a senior game for Carlton. Does anybody remember how he went in the reserves that year?????

I think Brad Pearce was the best piece of recruiting in 95.I actually dont know where he came from but I think he did try out for Brisbane at some stage.

Pearce ,Spalding and Mat Clape were all different forwards but complemented each other beautifully and because of this we can say we have the same number of flags as the scum.

David Robinson...ex Essendon* U19's went to Adelaide and was picked up in the mid year draft when they had mid year drafts...Robinson was a Half back from memory and I think Wayne Johnston had something to do with him signing with us....never played a senior game...not sure he even made the twos.....

I might throw a prediction or two in here:

Lappin and McGrath.

He did good in the reserves but there was too much comp for a forward pocket spot with Pearce and Deisel up there. Bond, Rhino and Heaver were ahead in the pecking order too.
