Apparently Gia’s thrown his hat into the ring.

Well he’s bigger than Gia so I guess that counts in his favour?

This is becoming a pickle. He wants to be a coach, but not with us? If she just saying that?

And if he changes his mind at the end of the year and gets the job and he fails in a few years time.

Then does he blame everyone by saying he got bulllied into it and he always said he didnt want it.

The media will have a field day saying we went for the sugar hit again.

PS Is Gia anygood ? Concerned he has failed everytime he went for senior jobs for years now. And if we keep losing with him, i know his peppery hair style and grin will annoy the frick out of me. Haha.

What ever happens with Josh, good luck to him. Has really surprised me. I’ve been particularly impressed by his calm approach and I can understand him.

Particular noteworthy is his praise for players and other contributors eg coaching team. Enjoyed him calling out Derksen in yesterday’s press c as a player who belongs in the AFL.

Josh wants to coach us. I'm 100% sure of it. He just doesn't want to put pressure on himself, the players or the club by saying so. He's doing a great job and at this stage he's the one for me, but we don't need to make a decision just yet. So we can enjoy the ride, see where it leads us and hopefully work out something to get Cody at the end of the year.

So now we are 12th with 7 wins.

We have just passed GWS (Kingsley, Montgomery) and St Kilda (Lyon, Enright).

We are equal on points with Gold Coast (Hardwick, Grigg) and are two points behind Collingwood (McRae, Skipworth) who are 10th.

We are on the rise.

Why would we look at coaches from teams who are no better or even worse than us? How is their game plan/strategy better than what we have at the moment?

The next month will tell us a lot.

But we were at one stage on 1-and-8 (Voss, Fraser)

Good point. So how do you know it could work? The answer is because so far it is working.

Time will tell whether he is the right one.

What a great opportunity to try someone in the position without either side committing to each other beyond the trial period.

I think it's less about him not wanting the pressure, it's going to build as long as we keep winning games. I think it's more about just silencing the media circus so it doesn't distract him the other coaches or the players — and in a way he's underpromising and as it turns out — overdelivering. Smart, who doesn't like that? I'm not here to take CFC to the promised land, I'm just here to make sure by the time we get to the end of the season, whenever that comes, that we're in better shape than we were when I was handed the job. As if to say ‘Lets talk about the team and our wins not about me’.

He started by saying he didn't think he was ready for senior coaching. Then he said probably not ready. Then he said it's hard to know when you are ready. Then his las version was he's not sure that he's ready yet. I suspect Josh will know by the end of the season if he's ready or not. Brilliant tactic to shut the media up in the first instance and then have them doing his marketing for him so long as we keep winning games. I think he's got a great mind for tactics and the small details and shifts of emphasis that make all the difference.

Yes Deez , he's little bit by little bit watering it down . Reckon he is playing it brilliantly . Its almost like Wright and Davies have become the support cast .

A few things....

Fraser is saying all the right things and certainly winning on the field. IMO, he should definitely be a part of the process. And I'm sure he is/will be. I suspect GW had him in mind all along... He has exceeded expectations, without doubt. However, the coming weeks will start to reveal a lot as opponents are able to gather more about how we are playing and have more of an opportunity to plan against it. I'm keen to see how we go when an opponent shuts down our run from the back half, or limits our uncontested marks, or finds a way out of our forwadline more easily. What do we do to overome these tactics?

The truth is it is very difficult to tell which of all the candidates will work best. That's why we are all relying pretty much 100% on GW / CD - they are clearly the ones who will make the call and we are backing them to be able to find the best option for us.

If it doesn't work, there will be a valid criticism in place - no matter which way we go:
- An experienced coach: It never works, we should have picked a new guy
- A young guy (not Fraser): Should have picked Fraser - he was right under our nose!
- Fraser: Well, he told you a thousand times that he wasn't ready! We got sucked in again by the 'Teague Train'...

So, we need to just make the right call. Unencumbered by the past. Not influenced by Board fetishes or fears. Or those of coteries.

Leigh Matthews has consistently maintained that the most important factor in a coaches success is the players they have to work with. Having said that, McRae was able to turn a bottom-4 list into Premiers in a couple of years, Mitchell looks like doing the same, Hardwick had to change his ways to turn an underperforming list into a Premiership dynasty, Fagan kept falling down at the last hurdle with his top-class list until he didn't etc... there are plenty of examples where you could point to the coach making the difference. (We could easily argue that Voss was unable to capitalise on our top-class list since 2023...)

I really hope they interrogate not just how the new coach will 'play the modern game' but how will they 'anticipate or adapt as the modern game evolves'!

Bottom line is there is no proven route to success. The winning pathways are often written in retrospect (David King says hello  ) and were rarely subject to a proven route. We are putting a lot of faith in GW/CD. Hopefully, it works out!

I think Josh is being honest, he's not sure if he's ready because he hasn't had to deal with adversity yet. It's easy to look brilliant when you keep winning. He (and everyone else) needs to see and feel how it is with a few losses and being under pressure, we also need to see how the players react to him when he and they are under pressure of some losses. The problem is I don't want us to lose any games.

Lloyd's opinion at 2:15.

Comparing the caretakers: One is ‘well and truly ready’, the other has an ‘impossible’ task ahead
