Can someone create a thread for this week's VFL game.

We have a few coming back this week and my boy, the right footed version Ison, Farrer, kicked 6 for Diamond Creek to sink the previously unbeaten Heidelberg.

He looked really good the game against the Bowling Club the other week - just his kicking for goal let him down.

Players back on the tools on Saturday.
Everyone is up and about, believing we can make it 5 wins in a row.

A huge squad from Royal Parade coming to Sydney.
Two teams, coaches, physios, all support staff, are coming in force.
Focus is definitely on winning both games on Saturday. This is war.

We are treating this game the same as every game.
Everyone knows both games are 8 point games.

Fascinating day of footy ahead of us. Start growing those fingernails.

CD made it clear this week in media, the mood around the club has been good all year, but winning has amped it up.
He said he wants to keep the mood up, and winning helps. But he also said he wants to have a look at the kids showing form in the VFL get a go in the AFL.

This week, Weitering, O. Hollands, Reidy and L.Camporeale are back from injury.

B. Camporeale Riley and Charleson have yet to debut, and Moir Lord OKeefe Chesser want back in.
Weitering and Hollands likely to play, Williams a big chance too.
There’s a chance both teams will be playing Finals if we win this weekend’s games.
There’s so much pressure on spots, not just in the AFL team, but for List spots too.

On the same day, this Saturday, we get to see Lewis Young, Saad, Boyd, Derksen, Fogarty and Duffy stake their claim for a List spot and a return to the AFL team.

Fascinating day of football for Carlton Football Club.

Fascinating times.

That's not good. Was he training inside?

He was rested for calf tightness.
Hasnt played since Geelong game, Friday 29th: 3 full weeks to relax his calf.

We will see. They trained on Saturday.

Faaaarrrrrrkkkkkkken spewing he's out for another week....of all weeks... this week.
Hogan probably needed the run last week. I hope he's dropped to the VFL. Wishful thinking tho.

Hogan, Cadman and Stringer vs Derksen Dean and Haynes.
I hope Derksen plays closer to Hogan than he did against Effendope talls.
I trust Dean on Cadman. Two young guns.

Hopefully they play Himmelberg in the backline, because they can stretch us for height...if Young doesn't play, and I doubt he will.

Can see Newman take Greene as usual.

I thought Briggs smashed TDK and Marshall in the ruck, but lacked speed on the floor against the Saints.
Will be a tough clash between 2 strong rucks. Pitto vs Briggs. Can't see Riley being called up.

GWS have a few out injured:

AFL: Green, Kelly, Coniglio, Jones, Riccardi, Buckley, Gruzewski, Hannaford, O'Halloran
VFL: Madden, Smith, Wardius.

Coniglio is listed as a Test, but missing only a week for Hamstring, even if its tightness is a bit early.

I feel a bit better on the injury front now.

Jones always tears us a new one. Green usually tags Cripps. Kelly is a hard match up.

Lets hope we can control Callaghan, who I thought was average last week.
I wonder if we keep Young to play a a tagging role from HF again, this time against Ash who gives them plenty of run from HB along with Whitfield.

We can win this.

I'm up for a pre-game beer/lemonade if any of our Sydney based TCers are interested.

Done. I will PM you my number.

I'm sure the usual lot, with the exception of Mr poo CK, the Sydney crew, Sinbagger, Sydney Blue, Great Ex and myself, intend to catch up between the two games. Big Gartos? London?

I'm definitely going to watch the VFL game starts 12.15.

I love that there is a Sydney crew who get together in person!
I will factor that in when making my plans to come up for week1 of the finals!
PS. I do like the idea of the wildcard round but I hate the idea that it is called a final!

Interesting Fraser says Weitering trained fully last night.

Doing the right thing by the player and the team.

I heard from one of the player's sponsors there's an air of confidence amongst team, following a players only meeting on the weekend. Sounds like a Farm meeting but not at a farm.

In the past the footy world termed the meeting which was the turning point of the 2023 season as "Curnow's Farm"; I will refer this latest meeting as "Animal Farm" in the future if they come out all animal on the GWS, and continue their winning streak.

Quote:
STAR Carlton defender Jacob Weitering will miss Saturday's match against GWS, but the Blues are hopeful he will return against West Coast next week.

Weitering has been sidelined since round 13 because of a calf injury and while he trained fully on Thursday, he won't make the trip to Sydney.
"We expect him to train fully today, train next week and be available," coach Josh Fraser said.

"We want to take a really considered approach with these players to make sure we’re setting them up to return in the best form they can.

"I wouldn't call it caution, we're just doing the best thing by the player and the team."

One week at a time.

Good onya 17th. That's the spirit. The Sydney Brethren waves the flag.

Week 1 would be at the SCG. I don't live far from there. Join us the night before the Final for a Hibachi and sake.

List Management meeting will be intense    after the Finals.

I catch up with a few TCers in Melbourne too. I intend to fulfill that shout  to Sidex sometime this year.
Would love to watch a VFL game and chew the phat with loyal VFL followers Mickstar and Big Gartos. BG is always a good laugh.

Got a good feeling about this Saturday's games.

Cotrell for Young the only change

Selections have been interesting to say the least.
Obviously concerned about GWS running power

As per normal this won't go down with some not wanting to criticise the club - but tough.
This is just another example why we need a clean sweep in the complete coaching group and someone to take hold of this group.
Next week's the in's will be Saad and Fogarty.....Acres, Cottrell and others should not be seen unless deep injuries in certain positions.
Lord pushed aside for Hewett is another.
Seems like we aren't moving forward as per we keep getting told. :banghead:
