What’s wrong with that

Or because Dad got him $700+ Large per season?

You be the Judge.

Both can be true

Maybe he lost confidence in the coaches when he had to move himself to the backline...

The old man offered 850000 for 5
He wanted out partly for money party to get away from Voss

Rubbish, he wanted more money and ultimately didn’t care who was coaching. Williams forgot to call Parkin to tell him he was in the selection committee, we can’t have that happening again.

From AFL HQ website

Slight tweaks under Josh Fraser have allowed Carlton to take the sting out of games across the last month. Under Michael Voss, the Blues conceded runs of six straight goals against Sydney, seven straight against Melbourne, five straight against North Melbourne, six straight against Adelaide, five straight against Collingwood, six straight against Fremantle, nine straight against St Kilda, then six straight against Brisbane.

But under Fraser, the Blues are yet to have a single run of more than four opposition goals in a row in four games. Defensively, the Blues look sound and it's why they've quickly become a wildcard chance.

Yes however Essendon* did get 4 goals in very quick succession. And they are 18th on the ladder.

So that article is not enough for me to believe a lot has changed - YET.

The previous 3 games however were different. But on the weekend, i felt we went back to old habits a bit.

Money played a part, but I don't think Vossy was the reason he hadn't been offered a contract.

SOJ was pissed off he hadn't been offered a contract during the year, and we did after his cawfee and offer from McRae.

In the end, highest offer won. I heard from several people we matched Pies offer of 650. not sure what Dogs offerred

What hasn't changed in between those runs of 4, 5, 6 and 9 is our set shots with the drop punt.

The true picture in the effendopes 4 goals streak was:

Blues..........point Harry
Eff .....Goal
Blues ..........point rushed
Blues ..........point Harry
Eff ....Goal
Eff ....Goal
Blues ..........point Acres
Blues...........point Byrne
Eff ....Goal

Makes a huge difference

What about that awful drop punt from 30 by Cripps at the 7 minute mark in the last? .....point
Following that kick Ben McKay kicked a ................................................................................point...... then a .......Goal

Its been our Achilles Heal since 2022.

Our inaccuracy makes it all the more curious that Gov has been more of a facilitator under Fraser.

In 9 games as a forward under Voss he had 19 goals, now he has just 2 in 4 games under Fraser.

The caveat is that he has been uncharacteristically inaccurate these past 4 games (2.4 vs 19.6), but he's been goalless in 3 of the 4 matches after never failing to goal in the previous 9, and his work blocking off defenders' marking lanes and generating F50 entries has been notable, so it looks like a role adjustment - H's return to form also a factor.

Can't argue with the respective win-loss records so not saying we're doing anything wrong, but it's... interesting. To me.

Maybe Voss was coaching via phone.
That would be logical, given some of the perspectives portrayed in here.

Not sure where to post this but I'll share some info from the Players Sponsors night at The terminus in Fitzroy "Cinder" restaurant before the weekend. The whole team and their sponsors/ sponsors friends attended. The following is from my nephew. He's well connected as a sponsor, and InBusiness, and a Carlton Tragic. I was invited to join him, but decided against the Bumbers game after going 1-8.

Gov and Kemp play a very unselfish role. They run hard to open up forward line and block where they can. Those blocks are not by accident.

Given this is the Coach thread:

Players love Vossy and the time and life lessons he gave them, but here's a major difference between the 2 coaches:

Player Reviews: Vossy 1-2 hours/ Fraser 30 mins max, and hit the track in a state of you can imagine what...I described as "paralysis through analysis"
.
Pre Training Team meeting: Vossy a 1 hr lecture sitting down/ Fraser 5 minutes and "hit the track with vigour"

Does Fraser have a tough side? You better believe it. He loses it and gives players sprays when Vossy was there and in preseason. He is Ok with mistakes but no tolerance for a loss of focus on fundamentals.

Fundamentals: there's heaps of them.

Give you a couple examples and Ollie use to be a culprit as was/is Saady. During preseason Fraser was strong on not bouncing the ball till you've run your full measure, and never look down at the ground where you want to bounce. That should be a fundamental; a skill you should have mastered to play AFL. Should be able to bounce a ball with head up looking at all options all the time, surveilling and taking the best option, or bounce then run full measure or release when you have to...without taking your eyes from what's ahead of you.

Ollie's game has improved out of sight because of this and able to sprint past opponents when he doesn't have to bounce the ball. It has changed Ollie. Saady...well nothing was said about Saady, but you could imagine why Saady bouncing the ball in his first 3 steps would infuriate Fraser.

Cowan and Wilson encouraged to take on the game. They have the fundamentals naturally to take on game and naturally look for options or they take on the line ahead.

Players love Pitto and feel he is umpired badly. His work against Cats was amazing. The players feel they belong at the level with wins under their belts.

Fraser is different to Vossy off field moreson than game day. Its all been sorted on the track, hitting it with vigour. Perfect practise makes perfect Preparation.

Players playing to stay at Carlton. A lot of contracts up in the air because Managers dont have a List Manager to discuss contracts  CD is at all meetings. he's everywhere except with player managers. Perception is CD is a great guy, loves Carlton and demands high standards, but there's an underlying fear of him, like he's a madman and might explode, but hasnt.

GW attends most player sessions but not as much as CD. Its a tight ship. Even when Vossy was there.

Ben Ainsworth is a real dead set country boy as you would imagine. Loves it at Carlton.

Cowan loves Carlton. He's a Carlton boy from birth. No word on Tassie. From him..."nah....". Who knows for real? His value is going up.

Amazing how the world works. Back in 2005, 20 years ago, plus, Mrs Cazz asked if I was keen to come down to Melbourne to be at TC's player sponsor table with Cazz, and a couple other nuts. Had a ball. I toll my nephews' mother as my date. Now my nephews are so connected with Carlton as mentioned above and another has his own youtube Carlton channel. Here's me feeling guilty the last 2 decades converting the whole family (through violence) in the 70's to weld onto Carlton. No guilt now. 4 on the trot.

Gotta go.

Thanks for the insights bondi.

I, too, thought Chris Davies had an aura of menace about him. Almost too expressionless :).

Also not surprised that Tassie players may not be a lock to seek a move back home. They're obsessed with the AFL down there, far more "who do you barrack for?" icebreakers down there than you get even in Melbourne. Their bonds to traditional clubs are strong.

It's the eyes. They look like they are constantly judging you.

Thanks for the heads up Bondi . Sounds like its a happy place . Yes , something unnerving about Davies . Keeps his cards close to his chest . Good on him . Davies comes across as the type of bloke who lives and breathes his job . I like him a lot myself .

That’s some good oil Bondi. Thanks for that.

I guess we’ll see how happy the joint is when the new List Manager lands, if it’s not a chatbot. They moved Austin on because the player managers walked all over him. He was way too easy to read.

No negotiations, just a number. Take it, or kick rocks.

Interesting times ahead.
