First time that CARL have won a game when behind on the scoreboard at the end of any quarter since 2024 R19

-------

124 marks. Big change there in uncontested marks/controlling the tempo. Expected score Carlton win 83.7-57.6.

Helped Bont and Richards are on one leg and Pittonet was rucking against Lobb and Emmett while B Williams was injured early.

Looking forward to different modes within games.

You must be so disappointed that so many people got some joy out of last night's effort.

You are the ultimate Grinch. I get you ranting about EVERYTHING, but your inability to simply say; Well done Coach, Well done players, is rather sad. It shows you would rather live in self-imposed misery than bask in some much needed positive aspects of life, even for a few hours.

Has Carlton under performed for a long time..............certainly. Did supporters love the efforts of Wilson, Ison, Cowan and Carroll last night? They sure @#$%ing did.

You got your wish this week. You got change. You got a spark of excitement from the Team. And yet in your core, the deep-seated resentment still floated to the top.

Sad way to live.

I like that they made one change. They can make 1 or 2 each week as far as I'm concerned.

As long as it's not

IN - Wiggins, Sporn
Out - McGrath, Bannister

we need to reset our culture, and that starts with winning right the fffk now.

didnt we sack all our list people?

the umpiring was bad for both teams, except for the dogs forwards. naughton was gifted goals from the softest frees while we had our heads ripped off and got nothing down the other end. how the yellow moron missed the 2 to us in the 3rd quarter is disgusting

anyway, the win was needed, cripps carried us in the final quarter again, but brought his mates this time and they were terrific

still made hard work of our opportunities and the set shots could have cost us

kemp needs a spell in the 2s to regain some confidence

surely ollie hollands silenced some critics last night

the last 2 goals to the dogs deflated the win a bit, but that was umpire engineered

great gutsy win

Frustrating at times. But a distinct plan and different modes at different times. Great to see.

Looked pretty much the same as most of last year, except cauliflower were trying & the bench management was actually doing something.

You're not going to change the world 5 days after sakcing a coach that has drilled the bomb, bomb bomb mantra for 4.5 years. And due to the decision made last year to roll with Voss, there will still be plenty of tinkering next year.
2026 is a wasted season.

But I did like the way we tried to crowd the corridor when we didn't have the ball and force them wide.
Almost like we had a plan to negate the strengths of the opposition.

We’ve got some good kids. The right coaching appointment and a few smart recruits in the off season could make things turn quickly like they have at Melbourne. The VFL side is finally performing its duty and we should be leveraging off that.

Awesome games from Carroll, Hollands, Cowan and Florent. Liked Wilson’s game too, he looked far more assured out there. Cripps was enormous in the last, if he can still have these performances, then he’s worth hanging onto a bit longer.

Some of the issues around entires are still there as well as defending transition. Weitering is a real worry, he looked engaged early but had some bizarre moments later in the game. Walsh wasn’t great, and Gov was woeful. You have to wonder when it’s time to start playing more of the kids. Evans needs a spell, was pretty ordinary. Bring in F Young please.

Pitto also started well then faded badly against a kid and Lobb. We desperately need a ruckman to fill the void left by TDK.

Liked H’s game. Was a bit quiet in the middle part of the game but stood up late and looks to have regained confidence and imposing himself. Ainsworth also lifted after a quiet start.

Jack Ison - I thought he wouldn’t be ready. Boy does he look like he belongs. 6 score involvements and an ice cool finish to seal the game. How long have we been crying out for a player like that to take the clutch moments by the balls? Also, his decision before his goal to just sit the ball up for Gov instead of blazing, which led to the Ainsworth goal was also a sign of a smart footballer. Reminded me of Jack Martin. Excited for his career in navy blue.

To those who want to tank from now - sorry, but you just have a lazy mentality and don’t get it.

we got two of the best at it, in davies and GW. we're fine. they work a little bit of overtime until they employ their protege's. its no biggie.

Winning is the panacea for all of us... well nearly all of us. It's just nice to listen to an ounce of positivity the morning after a game. But it also changes perspective. Interesting to see some rate Weiters as having his best game and increased engagement. I felt he was still disinterested for a lot of the game. Some strange decisions with ball in hand. It's like he's terrified to take on anything. Always looking backwards or sideways and always dinky little nothing kicks.

McG who had been engaged all year suddenly stopped going for marks and his effort was well down. I guess players take the loss of the senior coach differently. Maybe Gov felt the loss more than others.

Kemp needs a spell. His goal kicking is woeful and dropped some absolute sitters.

On the plus side, Cripps did it again. We all remember the famous game against Brisbane in Teague's first game at the helm. He was massive with the game on the line last night. Reminded everyone around what he can do and at worst raised his trade value. I'd like to think he's back and going to lead us out of the mire. It just reminded why we've loved this guy so much for so long.

Ison made a great debut. Probably should have kicked at least 3 but looked composed and like he belonged out there.

Carrol's raking left foot was awesome with those long bombs from outside 50.

Ollie Hollands effort is always there but he made it his possessions count and I cant remember him getting caught holding the ball which was a nice change.

Although Crippa will probably take most people's BOG after good last quarter, I'd argue Florent was our best on. He was really good for 4 quarters. Definitely his best game for the club.

Winning feels good and exactly what the club, the players and all the fans needed. Let's enjoy the week and see what happens for the rest of the year

Oh forgot to mention Harry. His last 2 weeks have been great and no coincidence that it has aligned with his move back into the ruck. 100 percent the right position for him. We've seen it before. Charlie out changed the coaching mindset that he had to stay forward, but it clearly frees him up. With Kemp struggling, I think it makes sense to bring Derksen in. At least try it and see if it works.

As mentioned in another thread, I like the way we “rested” Cripps in the forward line for most of the match and kept him fresh for the last, it also made our onball cohort more agile. I could be wrong but it also seemed having Cripps in the fwd line meant we let Harry do more ruck work, which also rested a Pittonet more?

Pro:

Centre bounce clearances. First time we've won there for a while.

Con:

Surface. A lot of slipping over by players on both sides.

A good even team performance . Many hands make light work . The Skipper was mammoth in the last quarter . I personally will not under any circumstances even contemplate unloading this bloke . He is the heart and soul of the place . Resting him forward for long periods was probably the masterstroke of the night . All the other boys took up the slack and more than covered Cripps absence in the square . You just have to give them a chance and put your faith in them . A great team effort for mine .
I"m not saying I want him to coach us in the future but I gotta say Josh Fraser represents the Club beautifully . Comes across as a real quality bloke .

But that Dutch Kid and Cody Walker would be nice.

I watched the game again.
Great to see the boys win.
Nourishment, and good signs from the kids:

Hollands, Cowan, Carroll were absolutely awesome.
Ison and Wilson gave us some spark and some speed and prove they belong.
Smith was amazing in the middle: elusive and the glue in the midfield.
Dean is pretty quick for a big fella. Marking and spoiling a feature.
Kids on every line.

That was after watching the VFL game and kids like Moir Byrne Charleson and Walker shine, and O'Keefe nearly clunking them.

Loved seeing the genuine smile on Weitering when Ison he kicked his first.
Weiters even smiled when singing the song. :smoking:
Prior to those moments, I thought maybe Weiters is just a Doull type introvert, and we are reading too much in him.

Loved watching Harry pull the forward line group together in the last, and direct.
The forwards were such a great pressure group.
I'm not a huge fan of Kemp, but he competes everything like his life depends on it.
Gov was quiet. I thought he presented but didnt quite click for him.

Loved Crippa and Walsh leading the charge with a never say die attitude, blanketing Bont & Co.

Florent Hayward Ainsworth have really turned their games around, and look like sound additions now.

The Saints game was the nail in the coffin for me. If we couldn't lift and win that game, we couldnt lift for anything.
After watching the Tigers and Bumbers play well in recent weeks, I really didn't think we would win another game this year.
In fact, I thought we didn't need to try and tank to end up bottom of the ladder.
The word Tanking was a good excuse for our inability to play 4 quarters, rather than say we are a weak team
Calling it Tanking would also give the AFL the shits proving the new Draft rules encourage Tanking.
Ending on the bottom of the ladder would be no disgrace given we end up with Pick 2 & 3 players in the Draft.

A lot of unrewarded hard work from Hewett proved letting go Kennedy instead of him was the right decision.
Kennedy looked really slow. That made me feel good too.

Proves we don't plan on Tanking with 13 games left to play for 4 points, pride and image.

I am under no illusion we were kissed on the dick playing the Dogs with their No 1 ruck English out, along with the unicorn Darcy, Libba, Weightman and Vandameer. Bont and Richards on one leg, and Williams taken off with a Hammy. We got lucky on the injury front this week.

We could still end up bottom of the ladder, and brag we tanked on purpose  but then again, we are only 3 games shy of making Finals with a 13 games to go and last 8 games played in Melbourne.

Feels great to win. Might watch the game again. In fact might watch both our games to see Derksen and Lewis Young dominate the air again.

Go Blues.
