If we are unhappy with a Board member, how do we get rid of them? do they ever get sacked?

It just feels that some of our current Board members have been on there for 100 years. When do they ever get replaced?

I'm not wanting to sound disrespectful but if you haven't been a member for 20 years, it's none of your business.

None of my Business? You seriousely think you are more entitled to have a say just because you pay your membership every year?

Absolutely I do. It's a membership based club. Members get a vote. I would have thought that was pretty simple really.
If you want input, put your hand in your pocket.

Your comment is pathetic and beyond disrespectful. The club is not yours nor is it owned by indiviuals so you can tell people off. I am a blood & soul supporter for 35 years and I have good reasons for not paying up for my membership.

No worries. So it's "people like me" who are responsible for the clubs current predicament because we financially support the club?
I'm not telling people "off". I'm setting you straight on how it works. The club lives off membership. It lives off corporate support.
The reality is that without that financial support. there would be no club for you to constantly bitch about.

I'm not saying anyone is better than anyone else Mick.
If you support the footy clubs sponsors, great.
Just stating the facts that if you want to have a vote or a say at the AGM, you can't do it without being a member.

Anyone can own a Hyundai. You don't need to follow the AFL.

I think if you want to influence change then you need to be a member whether that is a sporting club or a political party. It doesn't mean that you will effect change, but you have more of a right to ask for change because you are investing in the club.

Then when the rewards come then you can share in the dividends, e.g. a finals ticket or whatever.

Don't expect any dividends from the Commonwealth Bank if you don't own any shares.

I have deleted my initial comment as I reggretably thought it's not worth it. I am so over this damn Club & I do apologize if any of my words were out of line!

Now that you have replied, let me make a quick comment!

All AFL clubs should be membership based- ie without members Pouring their Money in, the club wouldn't Survive.

This is no longer the Case at Carlton. The People in power has hijacked this club and turned it into a business venture. They make enough money from Pokies alone that can run the club for the next 50 years. Not to mention the other bussiness ventures that are conducted from behind closed doors.

Carlton makes a Profit every year in the millions, despite the failture of the football department.

As a member, when you pour your hard earned money into the club, you would expect something in return. The Club has given you NOTHING in 25 years.

Despite that, your just happy to keep rolling your money without even questioning a single thing. This is how a club turns into a mediocre. The Members have to take some blame beause they are piss Weak. They don't stand up for what is wrong!

This Club of ours is not owened by Indiviual families. Just because a Rich family decides to pour millions into it, it does not become theirs. It is also not owened by paying members.

Its time for Members to Stand up and say Enough is Enough. Do what is in your Powers. Do not re-new memberships until you see real change. Do not engage in the Club's PR and Pathetic Stunts that they do every week. Do not go to Games.

Do you seriousely think the Club gives a flying Toss about You? or your money? You are just a number to them at the end of the day. Wake up and STOP being a Puppet for these Clowns!

What fantastic things have you done to make the club a success while not being a member that allows you to abuse those who are members?

Yep. You're right Rod. I should be better than that, but I admit I'm unfortunately often not. Too often I get heated when it's not worth it or there's a better way.

By the same token, I fail to see why people come here just to kick the club. No doubt Dodo loves the club but his posting over the recent times is just continually bagging the club.
So yeah, I get aggravated. The club is in a massive hole and the supporters are frustrated and annoyed. But for flowers sake, how does constant negativity on TC make people want to engage? Surely there's something to discuss other than sack the board, sack the coach.

So apologies to Dodo. I considered letting it pass and I didn't.

And yes, you can be a member and not have voting rights. But you cannot have voting rights without being a member. If you want change. Complaining on fan sites won't do it.

I may be wrong on the timing but I feel like the big change occurred around the time Ian Collins took an over and moved us to Docklands. Yes, Elliot and co were stuck in the old ways but I never doubted their passion and commitment to Carlton first and foremost.

Noice

Collins sold us out...or his employer through him under the bus as collateral damage. Collins remained friends with the AFL Commissioners. He knew which side his bread was buttered. Sold out and shafted.

We have never recovered since we imploded, and went full on cannibalising till we were nothing.

Evans and Demetriou knew how to Divide and conquer Carlton. They abused their power, but got the result they wanted.

We will be back....just not this year.

Yep , no probs " Vain " . Its true , what you say about being a member and having a vote or a say at a GM and that's why I'm a member and wouldn't even dream about not being a member . Trouble is I have pals who go to the footy and part with there hard earnt and also patronise Club sponsors where possible BUT in the last 12 months have refused to buy memberships as a form of protest . To them its all talk and no action and till they see results they aint gonna join . I hate to break it to you BV but I know a whole lotta diehard supporters who are gonna join them and opt out next season . Check out our membership numbers this season compared to last season . Reckon this will continue and become the trend unless the head honchos pull a rabbit out of the hat . Its dire . I can't ever remember when so many long time members/supporters are sick to death of the Club .
Anyhow , I'll keep parting with my hard earnt but the new generation have different ideas to us old diehards BV .

The best thing I have done to make this club a Success is STOP giving them my hard earned Money.

I am honestly sick & Tired of this club. I have Spoken about our issues for years. Some Carlton members, especially the new generation thinks that Carlton's issues began after 2023. They don't understand that what we are experiencing today is the result of 25 years of complete failure.

The real issue is not failing. We all fail, and we all learn from our mistakes, we fix those mistakes and We go again. If we fail again, we go again and again. The Issue with the Carlton football Club is that their failures is a direct result of their massive success off the Footy field .

In Other words, winning Premierships or making finals is not a Priority for the Carlton Bosses. It never was since 2003. Making Money off business ventures by using the Club's name is what matters to them. this is why it is impossible to make real changes.

Changes has to begin by getting rid of all connections with the Pratts & the Mathersions of this World. Real change has to start from the Top. Board members have to be made accountable for their Failures. At the moment, they are untouchable. No Member and no Voting right can ever remove any of them.

Haven't you noticed yet that in 25 years of failure, the Board promises the members a New Savior that will change everything for Good. They Sack Coach after Coach, they bring Judd to the Club, they invest heavily in recycled players and every 3-4 years. they BS the members with a new Savior that is Coming!

My issues with the Club go back all the way to 2003, so perhaps you can understand a little why I am so negative and so Angry. There is so much more I want to say but I can't because of Legal reasons.

A Club that Invests members money into Poker machines that destroy lives is not a Decent Club. It is Criminal. you want me to throw at you some Facts: Carlton has Generated a profit of $20.5 Million dollars from last year from Pokies alone. They don't just have one Poker Venue. They have four Venues.

Who Manages those Venues? Surprise Surprise. Its Managed by a Company called the Endeavour Group which is owned by Bruce Mathieson.

The only Way to force the club to change their ways is to Boycott them. When members fall from 90,000 to 45,000, that's when they will start making concessions.

Has any paid member in the last 25 years been able to have a Say at this Club? has we seen any real change? All you guys have done is just throw away your Money and feed their pockets, not that they need it.

Worse, you Continue to get sucked into the Club's PR and Media stunts. There is no club in the AFL that creates so much Social Content and total BS than Carlton. How much and for how long can you fool the members?

I am just one person but believe me, the Members have had enough.

How many Carlton members here know their Board?

I bet 90% will say well we know Williams for sure, but what about the rest?

I have some homework for you all. " Do some research on that Lady standing first from right. Find out what she does for a living and what she is an advocate for. " You will then begin to understand why this club is going no where!

I think you'll find that the Pratts donated millions to the club and Mathieson has donated his Pokie venues. Yes, we should not need to rely on their income, but we're not there yet.

Anyway, this discussion is for another thread.

This is what I would do to the team this week.

Out: Cripps (managed), McKay (managed), Pittonet (managed), Dean (injured), Cowan (injured), Cottrell (omitted)

Cripps needs a rest. He may be carrying injuries, who knows? I don't think McKay and Pittonet were ready. They can have another week off. Dean and Cowan acquired injuries from the game. They weren't on the injury report, but they didn't play well anyway. Cottrell did nothing to deserve the call-up and nothing when he got there.

In: Hewitt, F Young, L Young, Wilson, Lord, Acres

Reward guys who have had form in the seconds. Ison would be close.

B: Newman, Weitering, Haynes
HB: Saad, L Young, Wilson
C: Carroll, Hewitt, Acres
HF: F Young, McGovern, Ainsworth
F: Hayward, Kemp, Evans
Foll: Reidy, Walsh, Smith
Int: Florent, Williams, Cerra, Lord, O. Hollands

We set up a bit like the Freo game. Lewis Young is the second ruck. Our forward line is a bit undersized, but we are unpredictable. Saad and Wilson are to run hard through the middle and take the game on. Jagga to start in the middle with Walshy and Hewitt. Lord, Cerra and Williams also go through the middle and hopefully tire them out before ourselves.

The club will never be a success with the board we have. It’s that simple.
Their priority should be be success on field
It isn’t
It should be called Carlton Football Club Pty Ltd
Stay silent about it achieves nothing

I agree with pretty much all you say (I've been attending matches since the 80's so I understand what's happened), the only difference is I am a member. I think you're overstating the importance of being a member, but that's my opinion, and I don't l think that's the most important point here.

Champion data with the late mail ideas TC was coming up with over a week ago.
Carlton's best forward and transition game this season was when McKay didn't play (against Freo). We kicked our best score for the year, against best defence and we matched them for score from turnover. Something we've struggled with badly.

Play a mobile, unpredictable forward line that can In fact run and work as a unit. The stats show McKay is targeted inside 50 significantly for no reward.
The fact he walked back into our side was a pathetic decision IMO.

The difference of opinion I have Hoyne is pushing him into defence. Firstly, he thinks Harry is a good field kick, which he isn't. His hand balling skills are also abysmal so he'd be a turnover machine down there.
Secondly, it's the last lever we should pull. If he fails in defence, he's finished IMO. I'd play him on the wing first. He is a great mark when he can lead at the ball carrier. He would be playing on smaller, less physical players and he can push back to intercept mark when required. Plus he is athletic in space.

We have one example to work off but it was our best performing game for the year. (No Harry in the forward line)
Not trying it again would be irresponsible and pretty weak IMO. Time to put the feelings of the players aside and put winning first.
